Not really, if they're funny, and/or you find them interesting .. finding them would generally be a fun activity as well, instead of mindless collect-a-thons like you see in the AC games (for example)
Not much of "finding" going on when you are following markers that light up from a good distance when you enter rooms for over 200 collectibles. Quantum Break also had way too many of these. Control probably has more collectibles than RE2 and Gears 5 combined. But collectibles are usually for the more dedicated fans. People who enjoy Assassin's Creed lore probably wouldn't mind finding all its collectibles.

Agree with the first bolded sentence.
Disagree with the second.

Most of AC's collection things are so devoid of lore it's really pointless. I still remember the whole thing with collecting the feathers in AC2 so Ezio's mom can make a toy or something for his younger brother, it was a ridiculous amount of collection for what amounted to be a 30 second cut-scene which had 0% impact on anything in the game's narrative.

Control, on the other hand, has collectible items which flesh out the lore, world and characters. Often you will find notes with information about key characters before you meet them, so when you *do* meet them in the story, you already have a built in idea of what their plot motives are etc (for example, the head of security lady). Yes, control has a lot of collectible items, but my earlier point was that unlike some games, it really doesn't feel like a chore or a hassle to try and find them as they do a wonderful job fleshing out the weird, fantastical world the game has.

RE2 and Gears 5 also have collectible items (diaries, notes etc) which *actually* flesh out the game world. Sure AC has *some* of those too, but most of AC's collectible items can be very easily ignored.

How many of the 266 collectibles did you read/listen/watch? How good was the pay off for all of them? Even the trophy asks you to collect half of the collectibles only. It's too much for this kinda game that spells bloat to me. I don't think going through all of them is worth the effort, unless like i said, you're a dedicated fan.

The actual problem with the exploration was the loot. Even in late game areas the game dropped Level II mods when I had already equipped level IV/V mods. Clearance levels should've been tied to exploration not story events you can't miss.

I didn't go out of my way to look at collection guides for them, but I gave a cursory look in each area to make sure there wasn't something obvious I missed. I think I got around 75~80% of the total collectibles.

and IMO, the collectible hunting, or as much as I did of it, was worth it.

Loot is a different subject altogether and something that every game can improve. Even in this game, I was discarding a lot of loot to make room for more. There should either be no limit, or a limit so high it may not as well be there.

I think just a simple sorting option would've made things a lot easier for starters. It was cumbersome to go through all the mods. Weapon exclusive mods showing up in inventory for other weapon modes made it all a mess to manage.

This is one of those games where finding the collectibles is more fun than a chore. They're all so well written and just genuinely

I mean ... just look at this.

Heheh I produced all the Dr.darling stuff - it was super fun and really intense

@Chandoo did you see the puppet shows https://youtu.be/NkRLrgNfAdU

they are soo good, soo creepy and soo weird..I love them

Also on the topic of collectibles - I actually enjoyed reading through them and finding those, I think narrative team did an excellent job and most of the people on the internet really like them aswell.

Aren't you investing time in the collectibles? The game has over 200 of them.
Yar I am not a fan of reading through documents to figure out the lore of the game. This was one of my biggest gripe with a game like Yakuza too where you had to read through subtitles for story bits. I just find it extremely boring.

Yeah, I don't think I found all of the puppet shows.

But their intro track is haunting lol

Finished this over the weekend. Really enjoyable experience. What i loved about the games was its Art Design and the combat. Ashtray maze is of the most memorable sequences I have played this year - its just an amazing piece of art. The telekinesis ability coupled with the flying one and dodge doesnt make any fight go stale. Its just amazing.

The thing I didnt like about the game was what I expected the most from it i.e. narrative. Quantum break was narrative heavy but the live action shows were perhaps a bit too much in that direction, with Control I think Remedy made everything optional and going through documents to get a grip on the characters and world around was a complete 180 of what was done in QB. Alan wake imo has the best of both the worlds, a perfect balance between explaining a good story without over explaining it (like QB) - I dont know if I am making sense lol. This is the reason why alot of the characters dont seem to be fleshed out with distinctive personalities. Apart from maybe Dr. Darling and Atih the Janitor, I dont think i remember much of the supporting case. This goes even when it comes to the boss fights. May be apart from one boss fight that made me fight a fridge (yes a fridge) I dont think any of the boss fights were memorable enough.

Apart from the shortcomings, this was still a very enjoyable experience. Fans of Bioshock, Psi-ops and games of that sort should definitely give this a try..

That's one of the side bosses. The main bosses are underwhelming, but the side bosses make up for them. Look for more altered items that need to be cleansed.

The Anchor was also a memorable boss fight, but not as good as the fridge.

Not sure who made this decision, but someone at Remedy or Epic really doesn't like good publicity.

Control (PC) 1.04 patch adds DRM, removes offline playability, breaks Steam Controller support

The title pretty much sums things up, with patch 1.04 for PC released yesterday, Control has had DRM added to it.

Of course there was no information about this being added anywhere when the update was released.

If you attempt to run the game executable directly, now before the main menu it pops up a message stating you must launch the game via the Epic Games Launcher and have a valid Epic Games User Account, which means the game also no longer works with the launcher in offline mode.

Because of this change Steam Controller support has also been broken.

Who knows if Epic, Remedy or 505 Games are responsible for this change, but either way I certainly will not be getting any expansion DLC for it now unless this is reverted.

If you want to continue to be able to play offline or use a Steam Controller, do not update to the latest patch.

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.
