[h=1]Nintendo Switch system update adds button remapping, SD card transfers[/h]

Plus, more Animal Crossing user icons!

Nintendo released a new system software update for Nintendo Switch on Monday, version 10.0.0, which lets console owners remap controller buttons on the Joy-Con controllers and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, as well as transfer software data from system memory to an SD card (and vice versa).
The update also gives Animal Crossing fans some new user icons from New Horizons: Tom Nook, Timmy and Tommy Nook, Isabelle, Wilbur, C.J., and Flick.
Here’s how Nintendo describes the option to transfer data, from the company’s official patch notes:
Added an option to transfer software data between the system memory and an SD card.
Users can now transfer downloadable software, update data, and DLC from the system memory to an SD card (and vice versa).
Note that save data and some update data cannot be transferred to an SD card.
The option to move software data can be found under System Settings > Data Management.
And here’s how Nintendo describes the new option to remap controller buttons, a new feature that can be found in System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Change Button Mapping:
Added an option to remap the controller buttons.
Analog stick and button configurations can now be changed for each paired controller.
Custom configurations can be saved as favorites in System Settings > Controllers and Sensors.
Custom configurations are stored on the Nintendo Switch system.
Configurations can be customized for the following controllers: Joy-Con (L), Joy-Con (R), Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Button configurations can also be customized on the Nintendo Switch Lite system.
This feature is not available for other controllers.
On each system, up to five favorite custom configurations can be saved for Joy-Con (L), five for Joy-Con (R), five for Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Five configurations can also be saved as favorites for Nintendo Switch Lite.

[h=1]Nintendo ‘investigating’ reports of Nintendo Switch account breach[/h]

Nintendo recommends enabling ‘two-step verification’

Nintendo is investigating reports of Nintendo Switch account breaches, according toEurogamer.
Nintendo Switch users on social media have reported account breaches in days prior, with the hackers reportedly purchasing digital goods like Fortnite V-Bucks. At least one Polygon staff member was impacted by this breach. Nintendo is encouraging its users to enable two-factor authentication for Nintendo accounts.
“We are aware of reports of unauthorised access to some Nintendo Accounts and we are investigating the situation,” a Nintendo spokesperson told Eurogamer.
The statement continued:
In the meantime, we recommend that users enable two-step verification for their Nintendo Account as instructed here: https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/Nintendo-Switch/How-to-Set-Up-2-Step-Verification-for-a-Nintendo-Account-1466677.html.
If any users become aware of unauthorised activity, we encourage them to take the steps outlined at https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/Nintendo-Account/Nintendo-Account-Recovery-Process-1658054.html or visit https://support.nintendo.com for general support.
Polygon has reached out to Nintendo for more information, but hasn’t heard back before publication.

[h=1]Nintendo says up to 160,000 Nintendo Accounts may have been accessed by hacks[/h]

Reset your password and set up two-factor authentication

Nintendo has disabled the ability to log into a Nintendo Account using a Nintendo Network ID (NNID) after approximately 160,000 accounts were compromised by unauthorized parties. Nintendo’s statement, originally published in Japanese, says that ID and password information for NNIDs was “obtained illegally by some means other than our service” from the beginning of April.
Nicknames, date of birth, country/region, email address, and gender associated with the NNIDs and Nintendo Accounts that were compromised as part of the breach may have been exposed, Nintendo warns. Some accounts may have been used for fraudulent purchases, including large amounts of Fortnite’s in-game currency, V-Bucks, according to reports from affected users.
Nintendo says it will reset the passwords of affected accounts, and that users will be notified by email. The company recommends enabling two-factor authentication for your Nintendo Account, and using separate passwords for NNID and Nintendo Account logins.
The NNID system dates back to the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U era, and that account could be associated with the unified Nintendo Account system, which launched in 2017 ahead of the Nintendo Switch launch.
On Tuesday, Nintendo said it was investigating reports of Nintendo Switch account breaches.

[h=1]The best Super NES puzzle game is coming to Nintendo Switch Online[/h]

Panel de Pon (aka Tetris Attack) arrives May 20

The best puzzle game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Panel de Pon, will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online library on May 20, alongside three other games. You may know Panel de Pon by another name; the Super NES game was released as Tetris Attackoutside of Japan and featured characters from Yoshi’s Island. Sequels to Panel de Pon were released under the name Puzzle League, including Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Puzzle League and Nintendo DS game Planet Puzzle League.
The Nintendo Switch Online release of Panel de Pon will be the untranslated Japanese release (presumably to avoid the whole Tetris licensing rights issue), but if you’ve never played it, don’t worry, the rules are simple. Panel de Pon is a match-three style game in which you move tiles around to line up colors and create combos. It’s easy to learn and difficult to master, as all good puzzle games should be. It also has great music.
Also coming to the Nintendo Switch Online library on May 20 are Natsume’s Wild Guns(SNES), a Wild West sci-fi shoot-’em-up that’s a certified cult classic; Operation Logic Bomb(SNES), a Jaleco-developed top-down shooter; and Rygar (NES), the side-scrolling adventure from Tecmo that’s a port of the arcade game.
The addition of those four games brings the Nintendo Switch Online classic games library to 82 titles. Access to classic NES and Super NES games on Switch requires an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. A 12-month individual subscription costs $19.99 (a family plan for up to eight users costs $34.99 for 12 months). You can also subscribe for one month for $3.99, or for three months for $7.99.

[h=1]Nintendo files lawsuits in crackdown against Switch hackers[/h]

Two new lawsuits were filed on Friday

Nintendo of America filed two lawsuits on Friday against Nintendo Switch hack resellers that sell software to play pirated video games, according to court documents obtained by Polygon.
The first lawsuit was filed Friday in an Ohio court against Tom Dilts Jr., the alleged operator of the website UberChips. The second lawsuit was filed in a Seattle court that same day, against a number of anonymous defendants from a selection of websites. All defendants reportedly sell products from a group of anonymous hackers called “Team Xecuter.” Nintendo’s lawyers described the products as “an unauthorized operating system ... and accompanying piracy tools that install it.”
These products allow users to get around Nintendo’s “technological protection measures” designed to protect its products from “unauthorized access and copying.” Once it’s disabled, players can download the unauthorized operating system and play pirated video games, lawyers said.
In an attempt to crackdown on the hacks, Nintendo is focusing its legal efforts on the resellers. In 2018, Nintendo filed a similar lawsuit against a Team Xecutor hack reseller. In January, it won an injunction against the defendant of that case, Sergio Mojarro Moreno, who was ordered to stop reselling the hacks. Likewise, Nintendo filed a lawsuit in September 2019 against a ROM website called RomUniverse, which allows members to download pirated video games for the system and others.
Polygon has reached out to Nintendo for more information.
At the time of writing, the UberChips website appears to be offline — under “scheduled maintenance.” Other websites listed in the second lawsuit are still operating. A kit used for hacking the Nintendo Switch is listed for $47.99. The site also sells products for the SNES Classic, PlayStation Mini, Nintendo 3DS, and Game Boy Advance.
The websites are also offering pre-orders for devices that will circumvent protection measures for the previously unhackable Nintendo Switch Lite and newer Nintendo Switch models. Nintendo said this is causing “tremendous harm” to the company; Nintendo lawyers said hundreds of the devices have already been sold.
Nintendo is seeking $2,500 per trafficking violation in each of these cases, as well as a permanent injunction to stop operations of these websites.

[h=1]Surprise free game from Nintendo revives the thrill of jumping rope[/h]

Technically no jumping required either

If staying at home all day has made you long for the childhood whimsies of running around outside, a free Nintendo Switch download can bring the fun of recess to your living room.
Jump Rope Challenge brings all the fun of jump rope without the hassle of actually having a jump rope. Just by using a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controller, you can simulate the feeling of jumping rope, without the rope whipping at your ankles or getting snagged on a valuable vase. And what’s more, if you can’t jump — be it because of annoyed downstairs neighbors or your own physical limitations — all you need to do is bend your knees or move your arms. Technology!
Jump Rope Challenge is designed to help you set customizable activity goals and get off your butt. Two people can even jump at the same time, with each holding a Joy-Con.
The game is available on Nintendo Switch for free. Be sure it grab it sooner rather than later, as it appears the game will be removed from the eShop at the end of September.

[h=1]Nintendo president apologizes for Joy-Con drift[/h]

“We are continuing to aim to improve our products”

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed the company’s ongoing problems with Joy-Con drift during a financial Q&A posted recently. Furukawa said the company apologizes for “any trouble caused to our customers,” noting that Nintendo is “continuing to aim to improve” its products.
Of course, Nintendo is still facing a class-action lawsuit — filed in the United States in 2019and updated later in the year — regarding the complaints about the controllers, something Furukawa noted in his statement, translated by Kotaku.
“Regarding the Joy-Con, we apologize for any trouble caused to our customers,” Furukawa said in the statement. “We are continuing to aim to improve our products, but as the Joy-Con is the subject of a class-action lawsuit in the United States and this is still a pending issue, we would it like to refrain from responding about any specific actions.”
The class-action lawsuit was filed against Nintendo of America in July 2019, citing claims of Joy-Con controllers malfunctioning. Nintendo began issuing free repairs for controllers afflicted with Joy-Con drift shortly after the lawsuit was filed.
In September, Nintendo released the Switch Lite, a smaller, handheld-only version of the original console. Notably, the Joy-Cons are built into the system — they can’t be replaced or unattached. Just over a week after the Switch Lite was released, the new console was added to the class-action lawsuit.

Donkey Kong Country coming to Nintendo Switch Online in July

Two Super NES games and one NES game will be added

Screenshot of Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong in an underwater level of Donkey Kong Country

Nintendo is adding Super Nintendo Entertainment System classic Donkey Kong Country to its Nintendo Switch Online program. Donkey Kong Country, which was originally released in 1994, will be added to the service alongside Natsume Championship Wrestling (SNES) andThe Immortal (NES).

These three games will be added to Nintendo Switch Online on July 15, according to Nintendo’s news release. Donkey Kong Country is a classic favorite developed by Rare and published by Nintendo, set in the Donkey Kong world and starring Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Natsume Championship Wrestling was released the same year on Super NES, and, of course, is a “realistic” wrestling game wherein players fight inside a ring to knock each other out.

The Immortal, developed by Sandcastle and published by Electronic Arts, was released in 1990 on the NES. It’s an action-adventure game set in a labyrinth of ancient ruins.

In total, Nintendo Switch Online has 85 games available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers — the service lets players access the internet in other games, too, like Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Other games on the platform include The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, and Super Mario Bros. 3.

Individual memberships are priced at $3.99 for one month, $7.99 for three months, and $19.99 for a year. There’s also a $34.99 option for a yearly family membership, which lets eight Nintendo accounts use the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Here's a little tidbit to put Switch software sales in perspective. There are six different first party games on Switch that have outsold every single PS4 exclusive game since the platform launched. That's not combined sales, but sales for each individual game.

The best-selling PS4 exclusive is Uncharted 4, which moved over 16 million units. Here's the Switch titles that have managed to outsell that PS4 exclusive.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 26.74 million pcs.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 22.40 million pcs.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 19.99 million pcs.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 18.60 million pcs.
Pokémon Sword/Pokémon Shield - 18.22 million pcs.
Super Mario Odyssey - 18.06 million pcs.
@GoldenHawk Remember when PG told us Sony became Nintendo's equal? :ROFLMAO:

Sooooo, like, hows your Switch holding up? Tell us how great it really is :p
I thought we were going by the numbers? :p And the numbers tell us that a vast majority of console gamers are into exclusives (Nintendo and Sony) and not into Xbox.

Nintendo's exclusives are a different type (a lot of family stuff and platformers?). I'm not so interested in them and they don't directly compete with Sony exclusives yet we are comparing them here (which only makes a point in favour of exclusives anyway and still goes more against Xbox than Sony).

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.
