I bought Nintendo Switch six months ago, and it was one of the most successful purchases for the last 2 years. Nintendo game store has a great collection of colorful and exciting games. Nintendo is not afraid to go its own way, to make their games, their concept of a portable console designed for two players, they create a really unique well-sold product. I think that this system deserves to be on the list of the best handheld consoles.
ofcorse its a handheld of current gen.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch is Fastest-Selling Console This Generation[/h]

Move over Xbox One and PlayStation 4: the Nintendo Switch is officially the fastest-selling video game system of this generation. The hybrid system, which allows for both home and portable gameplay, got a mixed reaction when Nintendo first announced it in 2016, mainly due to the company's failure in moving units of its previous console, the Wii U.
Although many considered the Switch a massive gamble for Nintendo, it released in March 2017. The system immediately grabbed players' attention with its potential, although many criticized it due to the limited number of games available for it. By early 2018, the Nintendo Switch had already outsold the Wii U, with 14.86 million units purchased worldwide since its release, compared to the total lifetime global sales of the Wii U, which only reached 12.5 million units. The console also became the fastest-selling video game system in the U.S. Thanks to titles such as Super Mario Odyssey and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, both rated highly by critics and fans and often bundled with Switch purchases, Nintendo continued to move units of the system.

Considering its success, it should come as no surprise then that The NPD Group, which tracks game sales in the U.S., has announced that the Nintendo Switch has become the fastest-selling video game system of this generation of consoles. From its March 2017 launch through November 2018, the Switch has sold more than 8.7 million units in the U.S., outpacing sales of both the Xbox One and PS4 in their first 21-month life cycles.

Nintendo is also the top-selling publisher of video games in the U.S. for the year 2018. The company broke records with its release of Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu, which sold three million copies worldwide within its first week. Nintendo will continue to dominate the game publishing market, thanks to another strong showing with its most recent release, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which has received nothing but praise from both industry professionals and fans. That title has gone over so well that when members of the St. Paul Police Department responded to a noise complaint, the officersended up joining some Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players in some good old-fashioned gameplay.

Although the Nintendo Switch often gets overshadowed by its competitors, it has become apparent that no one can count out the console just yet. As the system grows into its life cycle and gets more exclusive titles, its sales will continue to remain strong, making it as much of a contender on the console market as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

[h=1]Nintendo Adding SNES Games to Nintendo Online?[/h]

It looks like a bunch of SNES games will soon be added to Nintendo Online for the Switch. Overall, it appears that the majority of gamers aren't all too pleased with what's being offered through the Nintendo Online program, which was somewhat expected when Nintendo originally announced plans to make an online component to rival Microsoft and Sony.
Aside from being able to play Nintendo Switch games online, the company believed that consumers would love access to a library of retro games from the NES era. Evidently, the subscription service still needs a lot more work, but it appears as if fans will be able to jump into some SNES games sooner rather than later.

According to modder Kapu on Twitter, a list of Super Nintendo games hidden within the NES Online's strings have been discovered. It's allegedly littered with everything from Super Mario Kart and Legend of Zelda: Link to the Pastto Super Mario All-Stars and Star Fox 2. The latter title was previously exclusive to the SNES Classic, but that will no longer be the case if this report is true. Those curious as to which titles are rumored to be listed in NES Online's code can check out the full list of 22 SNES games below:

  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Soccer
  • Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
  • Demon’s Crest
  • Yoshi’s Island
  • Stunt Race FX
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • Pop’n Twinbee
  • Star Fox
  • Contra 3
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • Kirby’s Dream Land 3
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Mario World
  • Pilotwings
  • F-ZERO
  • Star Fox 2
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
  • Super Mario All-Stars
  • Breath of Fire 2

It's important to take this report with a grain of salt, as Nintendo has yet to confirm that its online service will expand to accommodate SNES titles. Still, the move makes sense given the reluctance verbalized by many members of the Nintendo community thus far. Nintendo Online has yet to prove its worth, but free Super Nintendo games would be a good way to finally encourage gamers to invest in the program.
Having said that, it's also possible that Nintendo is planning to sell these games separately. This seems unlikely given the fact that they are said to be located in the 'Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Online' app, but it's a possibility to keep in mind. Since Switch owners don't need Nintendo Online to play Fortnite, however, it's likely that these SNES titles will be used as a further incentive to get players onboard with the console's online subscription service.

[h=1]Microsoft is Bringing Xbox Live Cross-Platform to Mobile and Switch[/h]

To the surprise of many, Microsoft has announced plans to bring its Xbox Live service to multiple platforms - including the Nintendo Switch. Admittedly, the console wars are a nice narrative and something that gamers like to get invested in. Choosing between PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or even PC has long been a point of pride among gamers that then turn around and wear the brand like a badge of honor. As it turns out, Microsoft - despite being dedicated to an exclusive library of software on its respective platforms - wants more universal appeal for its service.
This initiative first began when Microsoft announced that it would begin bringing its first-party software to Windows PC. This created an ecosystem of sorts that allowed those playing games like Gears of War and Sea of Thievesto interact and play with Xbox and PC users alike. Eventually this led toMinecraft providing cross-play on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One platforms, and now it sounds as if even more Xbox Live features will be coming to non-Microsoft platforms.

Microsoft has confirmed plans to further discuss the future of Xbox Live and cross-platform play at GDC 2019. The goal here is to bring Xbox Live to other platforms like the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices in order to bring some of the best features and cross-play options to gamers. It's an exciting premise, but one that still lacks clarity - albeit likely to operate similarly to the current version of Minecraft on those platforms.

The breakdown of these Xbox Live plans is highlighted on the official GDC 2019 website:
"Xbox Live is one of the largest, most engaged gaming communities on the planet with decades of experience providing managed game services to developers that save you time and unlock all of the social and engagement features that players love.
Now Xbox Live is about to get MUCH bigger. Xbox Live is expanding from 400M gaming devices and a reach to over 68M active players to over 2B devices with the release of our new cross-platform XDK.
Get a first look at the SDK to enable game developers to connect players between iOS, Android, and Switch in addition to Xbox and any game in the Microsoft Store on Windows PCs."

Bringing this sort of crossover play to rival hardware is an interesting strategy for the company. The hopes of being able to generate Xbox achievements for games that appear across consoles is an especially ambitious endeavor, whether or not this will also be the case for third-party titles. Truthfully, the best way Microsoft can achieve success with this plan would be through bringing its own games to other platforms, which could mean big things for Nintendo Switch owners if this comes to pass.
Seeing Halo playable on Switch or Banjo-Kazooie appearing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are now entirely feasible with this strategy. GDC 2019 kicks off on March 18, 2019, so Microsoft's vision for the future of Xbox Live will be made more clear then.

[h=1]Nintendo brings VR to Switch with new Labo kit[/h]

[h=2]Labo VR Kit offers ‘simple and shareable virtual reality experience for kids and families’[/h]

Nintendo announced a new addition to the Labo line on Wednesday: a cardboard construction set that includes will bring “simple and shareable” virtual reality experiences to Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Labo: VR Kit is described as a “unique first VR experience” that will be made available on Apr. 12 for Switch.
The new Labo VR Toy-Con set will come in a variety of packages. The full $79.99 set will include six Toy-Con Projects: a set of VR goggles, a rocket launcher-like blaster, a camera, a bird, a wind pedal, and an elephant. There’ll also be an additional screen holder and safety cap included.
For those who aren’t interested in the full line of VR Labo accessories, Nintendo will also release a Starter Kit including the VR hardware and blaster Toy-Con at $39.99. To complement the Starter Kit, Nintendo will release two expansion packs ($19.99 each), one of which will include the elephant and camera, and the other of which will include the wind pedal and bird.

Labo owners who want to experiment with their own VR creations can use the Toy-Con Garage software suite. Beyond “basic programming tools,” Nintendo hasn’t said how Toy-Con Garage will work with the Nintendo Labo: VR Kit yet.
While the Labo VR Kit clearly isn’t meant to mimic the power of traditional VR headsets currently available for PCs and other consoles, it looks like a fantastic way to try out the digital realm without a steep upfront cost. The Labo has been an experimental product line for Nintendo so far, but it’s interesting to see all of the possible spins on the cardboard formula.

[h=1]WSJ: Nintendo has plans for two new Switch models[/h]

[h=2]One will sport ‘enhanced features’ while the other will be a ‘cheaper option’[/h]

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Nintendo is readying two new Switch models, following up on its earlier reporting on the topic from last year. While that earlier report just suggested a new model with, perhaps, a new screen, today’s report specifies a two-pronged approach: one model will sport “enhanced features” for the core gaming audience, while the other will be a “cheaper option,” which Nintendo sees as a successor to the now 8-year-old 3DS handheld.
E3 in June is a likely opportunity to announce the models, with one source telling the Journal they could be “possibly released a few months later.” With Sony bowing out of the show this year, and Microsoft widely expected to begin unveiling its next-gen strategy — including xCloud — it will be an opportune time to focus on what’s next for Switch.
While it’s unclear what kind of “enhanced features” the higher-end model will contain, the Journal reports that Nintendo will cut features from the current Switch model to create the new, cheaper option. “The company judged the new Switch models won’t need the vibration feature because there wouldn’t be many games released using the full benefit of it,” one source told the Journal.
A lack of vibration suggests a console without removable Joy-Con controllers, fitting the strategy of a 3DS replacement. It’s been a relatively smooth two years with a consistent Nintendo Switch offering, but for anyone following Nintendo’s decades-old handheld strategy, it stands to reason that things are about to get weird.

[h=1]Get Nintendo Switch Online free for a year, with Twitch Prime[/h]

[h=2]Existing subscribers get the months tacked on to their membership[/h]

Twitch Prime’s latest giveaway is a rather significant one: up to a year of Nintendo Switch Online, regardless of whether you’re an existing subscriber (to Switch Online).
Twitch Prime members can claim three months of Switch Online beginning Thursday (here’s the page for that). Then, after 60 days, they can come back to receive another nine months. If you already have a Nintendo Switch Online service, the free months can be tacked on to your existing subscription.
Bottom line, Twitch Prime members have to claim the first three months by Sept. 24, and then the remaining nine by Jan. 22, 2020. By way of comparison, a year of Nintendo Switch Online costs $19.99 (three months is $7.99). The service, which launched in September 2018, connects players in multiplayer modes (though some, such as Fortnite, don’t require that), gives them cloud saves, and opens up a large library of classic Nintendo Entertainment System games.

A news release from Twitch Prime (which is owned by Amazon, so Amazon Prime subscribers already have it) touted more than 70 free PC games given out in 2018,
starting that March. The service also regularly doles out free in-game loot in big-time titles.

[h=1]You’ll be able to play Breath of the Wild in VR via Labo, and some Mario too[/h]

[h=2]Two of the Switch’s best titles get VR support[/h]

Today, Nintendo announced that its upcoming Nintendo Labo VR Kit will support two of the Switch’s most prominent titles:
Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildwith “bite-sized” experiences. The VR Toy-Con is meant to be an accessible way for families to test VR out without dropping the big bucks on systems like the PSVR or an Oculus.

The VR Toy-Con is rich in potential, and Nintendo adding compatibility with some of their biggest titles is a great sign for the Labo’s future. Frankly, the thought of exploring Hyrule all over again in VR sounds like a fantastic reason to revisit Breath of the Wild.
Super Mario Odyssey will support a “bite-sized” experience, with players getting to complete three mini-missions in the Cap, Seaside, and Luncheon Kingdoms. Breath of the Wild seems to be fully supported, with snippets of play from all over Hyrule being featured in the teaser. The feature can be enabled or disabled at any time via the options menu.
The VR Kit also comes with a host of fun projects to build and play with, including a rocket launcher-like blaster and a wind pedal.
VR compatibility will be added to both the Mario and Zelda titles with free updates on April 25, 2019. The Nintendo Labo VR kit will be available on April 12 for the Nintendo Switch. The full set with all accessories will be $79.99, but a Starter Kit with the VR goggles and blaster will be available at $39.99.

The Mario Odyssey VR levels remind me of Astro Bot, which reminded me of 3D Mario games in the first place. The Labo VR starter kit is for $40, so will certainly consider getting it.

[h=1]New Nintendo Switch controller lets you ditch mobile apps for Fortnite chat (update)[/h]

[h=2]Wired controller has a headset jack for Vivox-supported games[/h]

For Nintendo Switch players looking for something more convenient than running a mobile app for voice chat, PDP is bringing a wired gamepad with an audio jack and controls, integrating chat with a controller on the Switch for the first time. But there’s a catch.
PDP’s Faceoff Deluxe+ “features support for Vivox’s integrated in-game chat,” according to a news release, which is shorthand for saying the 3.5 mm audio jack and audio controls will only work for games whose multiplayer chat runs on that technology. Fortnite is one of them. The controller will cost $24.99 and pre-orders will begin in May, with the unit hitting shelves in June.
It resembles a Switch Pro Controller, except it adds two additional programmable buttons. There’s a red camo model and a purple camo version, and the unit can accept faceplates from elsewhere in PDP’s Faceoff line.
PDP calls it “the best Nintendo Switch controller for serious gamers,” and they have a point. Switch owners have to go through a mobile app, which itself packs in all kinds of conditions. In September 2017, at least, two of the most onerous requirements were relieved, allowing chat to continue if the user switched to another app, or if their mobile device’s screen went dark. Still, multiplayer chat on the Switch is a feature tolerated more than it is enjoyed.
PDP partnered with Vivox, which developed the in-game chat for Fortniteon Nintendo Switch, to develop the integrated chat controller. PDP’s company blog has more.
Update: An earlier version of this post missed the condition that the controller’s chat support was limited to Vivox-supported games. It has been revised throughout.
Update, April 6: We reached out to a PDP representative to ask for clarification on whether this controller would support all chat-enabled Nintendo Switch games or only those using Vivox protocols. Here is the response.
“The Faceoff Deluxe+ Audio Wired Controller was developed with Vivox in mind and we’re excited to be working with them. Potentially, our hardware could work with any chat protocol built into the game software.”

[h=1]Report: Cheaper Switch coming in June, ‘modest’ upgrade coming later[/h]

[h=2]More corroboration of Nintendo’s Switch hardware plans[/h]

Nintendo will “likely” release a cheaper version of its Switch hybrid console sometime this June, according to a report from Bloomberg, corroborating previous reports about the company’s hardware plans.
Bloomberg didn’t specify a price point or what would differentiate the less expensive version of the Nintendo Switch from the current model. Nintendo sells the Switch for $299.99, the same price the console launched at in March 2017.
In addition to the cheaper Switch, Nintendo is also planning a “modest upgrade” for the existing model sometime this year, Bloomberg said, but specified that a “more powerful version” is not in development.
In October, The Wall Street Journal broke Nintendo’s plans to update the Switch hardwaresometime in 2019. At the time, the Journal reported that Nintendo planned to update the system’s display with a higher-end screen. The Journal followed up that report in March with news of a cheaper hardware option.
Nintendo could unveil its cheaper Switch option at this year’s E3, which takes place in June. The company has one major release on the books that month, Super Mario Maker 2.

[h=1]Nintendo boss says ‘no plans’ to unveil cheaper Switch at E3[/h]

[h=2]Does not address reports of a price drop announcement, though[/h]

Nintendo’s president today told investors that “we have no plans” to announce a new Nintendo Switch configuration at E3 2019, implying the company is sticking with the current Switch. Earlier reports suggest a new model of the console is coming this year.
Shuntaro Furukawa, according to Bloomberg, told reporters that the company is “always working on new hardware and we will announce it when we are able to sell it.” However, “We have no plans to announce that at this year’s E3 in June.”
Furukawa did not address reports that a price cut was coming for the Switch in June.Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that the company was “likely” to release a cheaper version of the console, which launched at $299.99 in March 2017 and has held at that price since.
Bloomberg noted that Nintendo’s share price on Tokyo exchanges suffered as disappointed bettors left the stock. In the United States, it was down about 4 percent an hour after the morning bell. Nintendo also issued earnings guidance and Switch sales projections below analysts’ estimates, further chilling ardor for a stock that had risen about 33 percent before the news.
Furukawa’s remarks about a new configuration bat down a Wall Street Journal report from October that Nintendo planned to put a higher quality screen on the handheld display. In March, the Journal also reported that a cheaper hardware option was coming.
Furukawa also confirmed reports that the company is working with Tencent Holdings to sell the Switch in China, but added that they have no timeline for a launch yet.
“Our current applications are just for the hardware, but we’ll also need inspections of our software,” Furukawa said. “We will need many more applications to the government and others, so from that perspective the launch period is still unknown.”

[h=1]Nintendo Switch Has Already Surpassed PS4 Total Sales in Japan[/h]

The Nintendo Switch has outsold the PS4 in Japan. Nintendo's current home console is doing exceptionally well, with Switch recently outselling the lifetime sales of the Nintendo 64, and Nintendo plans to sell 18 million units this fiscal year.
The Nintendo Switch's success can be owed in part to its unique attributes. A home console anyone can take anywhere is a concept that other console designs have not delved into. However, a console is only as profitable as its software library, which is another strength of the Switch. The Switch launched in 2017 with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, and the acclaimed Super Mario Odyssey. 2018 had Kirby Star Allies, Octopath Traveler, and of course, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nintendo's onslaught of games continues in 2019 with some other high-profile releases like Pokemon Sword & Shield, too, which is definitely a primary reason why the console is selling well today.

Famitsu recently updated its data for major video game console sales in Japan. From April 29 to May 12, the Switch sold 83,471 units. In that same period, the PS4 family (counting both the PS4 and PS4 Pro) sold 30,003 units, a small number in comparison. With these updated sales, the Switch has sold an estimated 8,125,637 units in Japan, beating out the entire PS4 family despite having been around for just two years.

Given that handheld consoles appear to be popular in Japan, it may not seem surprising that the Switch would be a big seller in that country. The notable aspect is that the Switch is just two years old, while the PS4 has been in circulation since 2014. It only took two years for the Switch to match and surpass the PS4 in sales. Although a number of factors are at play here — Japan's console market has been notoriously weak for years now, and it has completely ignored Microsoft's Xbox One for the better part of its entire life cycle — it's still an impressive feat from a device that was a gamble when it first released.

Nintendo arguably has Sony beat on the software front this year, which could see the company begin to make more headway in western markets too. We've already seen the release of Yoshi's Crafted World, and in June, the highly anticipated
Super Mario Maker 2 will be released. Pokémon: Sword andShield is coming later in the year, and Animal Crossing and Luigi's Mansion 3 are also releasing, although updates on those games have been scarcer. Simply put, Nintendo has positioned the Switch as the console to have for many. The Nintendo Switch will likely continue to dominate in Japan, and Nintendo could easily surpass its plan to sell 18 million units this fiscal year as well.

[h=1]Nintendo offers ‘game vouchers’ to Switch Online members[/h]

It’s like a members only discount, but more complicated!

The latest Nintendo Switch Online perk is an eShop discount, but there’s a twist.
Rather than simply offering an exclusive discount on digital games, Nintendo will give Switch Online users the opportunity to purchase a pair of game vouchers for $99.99. When redeemed at the eShop for two full priced Switch games, members may get a discount of up to $19.99.
The vouchers are only applicable to a small selection of titles, mainly essential first-party Switch games like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and the upcoming Super Mario Maker 2. Astral Chain, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will also be eligible when they become available for pre-order at the eShop.
Note that not all of the included games cost the full $59.99. Unless you’ve really been jonesing for some Fitness Boxing or sushi striking, it’s a good idea to pick up one of the $49.99 games another time so that you can take advantage of the full discount.
Digital store deals are pretty standard fare for gaming companies’ online services. Both Sony and Microsoft offer an extra discount to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold members during digital sales. Why Nintendo didn’t just offer Switch Online members a discount on a selection of games is beyond me, but Nintendo has always done things its own way.
Nintendo Switch Online members can buy the game vouchers through July 31. Games must be redeemed within 12 months of purchase. A Nintendo Switch Online membership costs $3.99 per month, $7.99 for three months, or $19.99 for a year. Family memberships are also available for $34.99. (And don’t forget that Twitch Prime members can redeem a free year of Nintendo Switch Online right now.)

[h=1]Nintendo's Strong 2019 Continues With Switch Sales Success[/h]

Nintendo's strong 2019 continued in May, where the company's Switch console enjoyed such strong sales success that it outperformed both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Nintendo's current standing within the video game industry is very much one that makes the publisher one to watch, with many suggesting that it hasn't had such a strong first-party games line-up since the glory days of the Nintendo 64.
It doesn't hurt that Nintendo's E3 2019 was also by far the strongest for any company in attendance. While Microsoft wowed audiences early with the now legendary Keanu Reeves Cyberpunk 2077 reveal, it was Nintendo that came away with the most excitement about its future prospects. Sony and Microsoft are both focusing on their next-gen consoles to an extent, which meant that their actual games lineups have been sparse in the lead-up to the 2019 holiday season. Nintendo, on the other hand, utterly dominated new game discussion with an E3 presentation that included a Breath of the Wild sequel, the desperately awaited new Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and even the unveiling of Banjo and Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The future looks incredibly bright for Nintendo, but that hasn't stopped the company's present from being equally sterling. According to NPD Group's software report for May 2019, Nintendo Switch outsold the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in terms of both units and dollars. Nintendo Switch sales growth has been the only consistent positive factor in the console analysis, with PS4 and Xbox One both falling in sales thanks to their respective companies focusing on next-gen technology.

Obviously, part of Nintendo's success is inextricable from the fact that people just aren't that likely to buy a PS4 or Xbox One with the knowledge that they're close to a new console generation. That said, though, the Nintendo Switch's sales are still impressive in their own right, and having a current-gen console for Nintendo that's ahead of the curve of its competitors could be a surprising boon when sales figures start rolling in at the end of 2019 and beyond.

For Nintendo, a strong 2019 could translate into an even better future. There's essentially a year-long window between now and E3 2020 that could see the Switch as the only current-gen device still producing major games and announcing even more on the horizon. Given the Switch's appealing price point and already incredible games library, it wouldn't be surprising to see it suddenly usurp the PS4 as the de facto console of choice, something that could be preserved through next-gen with a strong 12 months now.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.
