[h=1]Some Nintendo Switch games won’t support cloud saves[/h]

[h=2]Nintendo says it’s to keep players from cheating[/h]

Several Nintendo Switch games — including some big names — will not support cloud save backups when the Nintendo Switch Online service launches, the company confirmed to Game Informer yesterday. The reason why probably won’t make anyone feel better either.
In a statement to Game Informer, Nintendo said that with backup saves stored in the cloud, users would be able to revert to a higher online multiplayer ranking, or get back items that they’d already traded to another player.
Notable games that won’t support cloud saves include Splatoon 2 and Pokémon Let’s Go Evee and Pikachu. There’s also fine print for third-party titles like NBA 2K19, FIFA 19, Dead Cellsand Dark Souls Remastered. All of these games support cloud saves on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.
Nintendo Switch Online is expected to launch this month. A Nintendo Direct planned for Thursday evening was postponed in light of a deadly earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan earlier that day. It’s believed that Nintendo would have announced the final details for Nintendo Switch Online in this showcase, including the launch date.
Instead, some indicators of what the service will and won’t do seem to have slipped out via assets that weren’t pulled back after the Direct’s postponement.
Nintendo’s official page for Nintendo Switch Online notes only that “Details about this feature will be available before the paid service launches in September.” At any rate, access to the online service to back up saves requires a subscription. Those will be offered at $3.99 a month, $7.99 for three months, and $19.99 for a year. There’s also a $34.99 annual family plan supporting up to eight accounts.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch Online launches Sept. 18[/h]
[h=2]Final details on Nintendo’s new online service[/h]

Nintendo announced the start date for its long-awaited online service: Sept. 18. More details about the Nintendo Switch Online program will come tomorrow, Sept. 13, during the company’s latest Direct presentation.
Although the service offers several subscription tiers, including monthly and yearly, all Switch owners can first try it out free. A one-week trial will launch alongside the service on Sept. 18 and will be accessible through Nintendo Switch eShop.

The Nintendo Switch Online service will be required for console owners to access any internet-enable features, including multiplayer and, most excitingly, cloud saves. It will also grant them the ability to play 20 different Nintendo Entertainment System games at launch, although Nintendo hasn’t revealed the entire lineup yet.
All activity will be managed through the Online app, which is already available to download on iOS and Android devices. It doesn’t have the best user interface, but hey: Nintendo’s a newcomer at this.
Watch the Nintendo Direct with us live tomorrow to find out all the rest of the information we want to know about Nintendo Switch Online. It kicks off at 6 p.m. ET.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch Online will lock users to Nintendo Accounts next week[/h]

[h=2]Nintendo advises making sure users are properly linked, or unlinked, before then[/h]

A Nintendo Switch system update on Sept. 18, coinciding with the launch of Nintendo Switch Online, will lock Switch user profiles’ to their linked Nintendo Accounts, the company said in an email to owners this morning.
That means users should, in the next five days, make sure that all Switch profiles in their home (theirs and any kids’, for example) are assigned to the appropriate Nintendo Account. It will be impossible to unlink these Switch user profiles from that Nintendo Account later.
The change is so that users can manage their cloud game saves, purchased digital content and Nintendo Switch Online membership once that service launches on Tuesday. By linking these exclusively to Nintendo Accounts, users should be able to easily recover their saves and purchase history if their Switch is lost or damaged.
But it also means that a Nintendo Account would have to be deactivated on its Switch before its user could log in on another console. This is probably to keep multiple users from sharing game saves or purchases.
Nintendo has provided instructions for how to confirm Switch users are linked to the appropriate Nintendo Account. Unlinking user accounts from Nintendo Accounts will only be possible until 8 p.m. ET on Sept. 18. Instructions for unlinking that account are also available.

Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription service through which numerous online features are offered, including multiplayer. Users will also be able to save some (but not all) of their game data to the cloud, and they will get access to a library of 20 Nintendo Entertainment System titles, with more coming later. Nintendo Switch Online will cost $19.99 per year, $7.99 per three months, $3.99 for one month, or you can buy a “family account” supporting eight different users for $34.99 a year.
A Nintendo Direct today at 6 p.m. ET will discuss Nintendo Switch Online’s features in greater detail.

[h=1]Cloud Saves are coming to the Nintendo Switch, here’s how they’ll work[/h]

[h=2]Don’t worry, if something happens to your Switch, your saves are no longer gone for good[/h]

Cloud saves, which will allow users to store their save files online as well as on their console, are finally on their way to the Nintendo Switch, thanks to Nintendo’s new online service, the company announced during its September Nintendo Direct.
The new cloud save system will backup players’ saved games automatically. If your Nintendo Switch system breaks or stops working for some reason, your saves will still be fine and you can download them when you sign into a new Nintendo Switch.
While a majority of games, it would seem, will support cloud-based saves through Nintendo’s online service, this isn’t something that will be available for every title. As Nintendo confirmed to Game Informer last week, there are several games that won’t support the system, something the company is doing in hopes of stopping potential cheaters. Games that won’t support cloud saves include Splatoon 2and Pokémon Let’s Go Evee and Pikachu as well as certain third-party games like NBA 2K19, FIFA 19 and Dark Souls Remastered.
The new cloud saves will only be available through Nintendo’s new online service called Nintendo Switch Online, which will be released on Sept. 18 and will cost $3.99 a month, $7.99 for three months or $19.99 for a 12-month membership. Nintendo is also offering a family membership for the service which will allow you to use two or more accounts for $34.99 a year.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch Online has these 20 classic NES games[/h]

[h=2]Full lineup announced; nine more announced for the next three months[/h]

Twenty classic NES games will be available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers when the service launches on Tuesday. Nintendo revealed the full lineup today, plus another nine that will join the library between October and December.
Ten were already announced when Nintendo Switch Online was first announced back in May. The 10 games announced today are:

  • Ghosts ’n Goblins
  • Excitebike
  • Tecmo Bowl
  • Yoshi
  • Double Dragon
  • Gradius
  • Ice Hockey
  • River City Ransom
  • Pro Wrestling
  • Baseball
They will join Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, Dr. Mario, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda,Mario Bros. Soccer, Super Mario Bros.Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tennis.
More are on the way. Solomon’s Key, NES Open Tournament Golf and Super Dodge Ballarrive in October; Metroid, Mighty Bomb Jack and TwinBee launch in November; andWario’s Woods, Ninja Gaiden and Adventures of Lolo are available in December.
Of the 20 announced for Nintendo Switch Online’s launch, 12 are also also available on the popular NES Classic Edition that launched in 2016 and re-launched this summer. Nintendo says the Nintendo Switch Online versions of these games will feature online multiplayer, including cooperative and competitive play.
The classic NES games are accessible as long as a user maintains their Nintendo Switch Online subscription. This explainer has more on Nintendo Switch Online’s features.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch cloud saves may be lost if online subscription lapses[/h]

[h=2]There’s currently not a buffer period set[/h]

Nintendo is finally rolling out cloud saves for the Switch, which will be included in the upcoming Nintendo Switch Online. The majority of games will automatically have their saves pulled into the cloud, with a few exceptions such asPokémon: Let’s Go! and FIFA 19. While this makes for a good back-up, there’s the question of what exactly happens if you forget to renew your subscription?
The Nintendo Switch Online FAQ implied that cloud data would be lost the moment a Nintendo Switch Online account became inactive.
Save data stored via the Save Data Cloud backup is available for as long as you have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Classic games in the NES – Nintendo Switch Online collection and the save data for those games will not be removed unless the user chooses to do so manually. These items are stored locally on the Nintendo Switch system but cannot be accessed without an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Other consoles’ cloud services have some sort of back-up in place. PlayStation Plus willrestore Online Game Save storage when you renew your account. Microsoft offers free cloud saves for everyone. These consoles also let you transfer save data from the console onto a USB drive, a feature which Nintendo Switch does not have.
When we reached out to Nintendo of America for a statement regarding the possible cloud save, they responded with: We have nothing to announce on this topic.
The Nintendo Switch Online service begins on Sept. 18.

[h=1]My Nintendo coins can help you buy Nintendo Switch Online[/h]

[h=2]Yet another useful purpose for those gold coins[/h]

Anyone who’s managed to stockpile My Nintendo gold coins, the members-only point system awarded to Nintendo Switch owners for buying games, has a new thing to spend them on. Once Nintendo Switch Online launches Tuesday, Sept. 18, My Nintendo members can put some of their gold coins toward the cost of their subscription to the service.
On Nintendo’s support page for Nintendo Switch Online, the company explains how users can redeem gold points toward a subscription.
“Gold Points can be used when purchasing a membership in the Nintendo eShop,” reads an answer on the list of Frequently Asked Questions. “They cannot be used for auto-renewal.”
Nintendo Switch Online can be purchased through other retailers, but having a sizable coin collection should make eShop the easy choice. Understanding the conversion rate between dollars and coins can be confusing, however, so here’s a quick explanation from Nintendo:
You can earn points by purchasing eligible games and downloadable content. Points are awarded based on the amount you pay (excluding tax and any points or discounts used).
Digital purchases [...] 5%
Physical purchases [...] 1%
For example, if you pay $59.99 for a game on Nintendo eShop, you’ll earn 300 Gold Points. Those points can be redeemed for $3.00 toward your next eligible purchase.
Some not-so-simple math suggests you’d need about 2,000 gold coins in order to pay for a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online subscription, which costs $19.99, solely using My Nintendo currency. And to get 2,000 gold coins, you’ll have to spend something like $400 on eShop games.
All of that is to say that you have to be a big shopper for this to be a viable option, but there are tons of Switch games already — it’s not impossible to think at least a few of you have enough points to buy a year of Switch Online in My Nintendo money.
For the rest of us, we have the option to spend $7.99 for three months of Switch Online, $19.99 for 12 months of it or $34.99 for an annual family plan. Starting tomorrow, we’ll need to pay up if we want to continue playing Switch games online or get access to cloud save backups, in-game voice chat or NES games with online multiplayer.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch Fortnite bundle to launch with exclusive items, in-game cash[/h]

[h=2]Nintendo and Epic Games continue to strengthen their partnership[/h]

Another Nintendo Switch bundle is hitting stores in October, and this one is aimed atFortnite fans who have yet to grab the console. The Fortnite “Double Helix” bundle will include numerous extras for the free-to-play game, including what Nintendo and Epic Game are calling “unique” weapons and outfits.
Launching Oct. 5, the package comes with the Double Helix set of items, including an outfit, back bling, glider and pickaxe. Based on the image on the box art, the Double Helix collection has a classy red-, black-and-white color scheme going — kind of a cyberpunk vibe. You tell me, though:

I like it! NintendoBuyers will also receive 1,000 V-Bucks, which can be used to buy premium items or the Battle Pass. The Battle Pass gives players access to more content, like extra outfits, emotes and seasonal specials.
Since Fortnite is a free-to-play game, it seems likely that buyers will just be encouraged to boot up the Switch eShop once they’ve set up their system and download it. This seems like an otherwise standard Nintendo Switch set, right down to the neon Joy-Con pair; it’s even priced at $299.99, the standard MSRP.
Combining the mega-popularity of Fortnite with the growing install base of the Switch, however, is the definition of a good idea.

[h=1]Your Nintendo Switch games can now be played across multiple consoles[/h]

[h=2]There are limitations, however[/h]

Nintendo Switch Online has brought a lot of interesting features to the system — and you can sign up for a great price if you use the family plan option — but one of the most surprising is the ability to play the games you purchase on another Nintendo Switch entirely.
The catch is that you can only play the game on one system at a time. Here’s the official description of how the system works, from Nintendo:
A Nintendo Account can be linked to Nintendo Switch consoles that are not designated as the primary console, however, some functionality differs from when a Nintendo Account is used on a primary console.
While using a non-primary console, you can still use the Nintendo Account to access the Nintendo eShop, purchase and download software, and under certain conditions, play your downloadable software.
While using a non-primary console, you must have an active Internet connection to play downloadable content.
If you lose your Internet connection while playing downloadable content on a non-primary console, your game will pause after a certain amount of time; however, once you connect online again, you will be able to resume from the point you left off.
While using a non-primary console, downloadable content can only be started by the user that purchased the content.
When using downloadable software on a non-primary console, your game will pause if your Nintendo Account is used to access downloadable software on any other Nintendo Switch console.
This is somewhat similar to how Sony handles the idea of primary and non-primary PlayStation 4 systems. The first Switch console you assign your Nintendo Account will be the primary system, but you can log in and play your games on non-primary systems, as long as no one is playing with that account on the original system.
Nintendo created diagrams that kind of explain how it all works:

Nintendo

Nintendo

NintendoThe short version is that in most situations, you’ll be able to log into other systems to download and play your games, as long as you’re online and no one else is playing on the primary system. This is a great option for houses with multiple Switch consoles, or even just friends who won’t want to clobber each other for bogarting Mario Kart.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch Online’s NES emulator already hacked to allow more games[/h]

[h=2]That didn’t take long at all[/h]

Nintendo Switch Online has been hacked within hours of its release, and players have already figured out how to play their own ROMs as well as the 20 NES games that come with the service. The process through which they’re doing so is reportedly easy enough that most fans will be able to replicate it, if given instructions.
The first video of a player launching a game that is not included in the official offerings was released last night. You can watch it below.

You can watch another short clip of an uploaded ROM being launched below.

Replying to @KapuccinoHeck

also of note is that there don't appear to be patch files like what the 3DS and WiiU Virtual Console commonly had so you wouldn't need to do any sort of fancy modification to get them working online, this is in theory of course because CFW is broken on 6.0 meaning I can't test

kapu | the Gay.@KapuccinoHeck

ok so
this is incredibly basic but it shows that fully custom games ARE possible!

It turns out that the emulation used for these NES games seems like a direct port of the software used in the NES Classic Edition, which makes it very easy manipulate. The NES andSNES Classic Edition have been opened to allow the addition of new games for some time now, and doing so is a simple process at this point, even for laypeople, using a program called hakchi. Doing so fixes one of the system’s most annoying issues, in fact.

good lord

#NintendoSwitchOnline's NES games are plain .nes files
GUI appears to be entirely LUA much like the S/NES Classic so people are gonna be able to go to town on this

The "database" file that contains a listing of all valid games is plaintext,-

So how easy is it to add your own ROMS to Nintendo Switch Online? We asked kapu, who wrote the tweets above, and who spoke with @OatmealDome and @Master_F0x when answering our questions.
“For someone without prior experience in running Switch mods, getting all of it set up at first is a bit of a process, but nothing too hard with proper instructions,” he told Polygon. “After an initial setup it’s insanely easy to swap out ROMs and add entirely new ones.”
He thinks that the ease in which players can add their own mods is just a side-effect of Nintendo making it easy to add new games in general.
“I have serious doubts that it points to any vulnerabilities, I’d say it’s just a side-effect of making it easy on them to add more games as they officially release more, thus making it easy for modders as well,” he explained.

I should probably make myself clear:
I do not think this is entirely a BAD thing, I just find it a bit silly that they advertised this as if it were a big feature of the online when it's really a quick port of an existing emulator packaged with some ROMs.-

kapu | the Gay.@KapuccinoHeck

It feels pretty much like an afterthought. The most work that went into it was likely the UI. There aren't any fancy patches for individual games or anything, the online multiplayer aspect uses the exact same networking code as any other Switch game, such as Splatoon 2 or MK8D.

8:11 PM - Sep 19, 2018

Twitter Ads info and privacy

The big question is whether Nintendo can, or will, ban consoles for uploading their own apps onto their Switches.
“From what I’ve been told, there’s a fair amount of telemetry and checking on the app for a valid setup, but ultimately I’m unsure,” kapu said. “Nintendo is very unpredictable when it comes to these things so for now I would heavily advise against anyone else doing it.”
To keep things simple, maybe don’t mess with this if you don’t already know how it was done. What’s important is that it’s possible, and it’s very unlikely efforts to hack Nintendo Switch Online will stop here.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch Cloud Saves will have a buffer period[/h]
[h=2]It was previously unclear whether users would be able to access cloud saves if their subscription lapsed[/h]

When Nintendo Switch Online launched last week, users were quick to spot a potentially concerning detail: it wasn’t clear whether Save Data Cloud files would be able to be restored if an account lapsed.
Most other console online services offer a buffer period to renew online subscriptions, if not offering a fully free cloud save service. But the original wording of the Nintendo Switch Online FAQ made it unclear whether this was going to be the case.
Nintendo, however, added a clarification on its FAQ stating that as long as users resubscribe within six months, their Save Data Cloud files will be restored. The full policy is as follows:
If a Nintendo Switch Online membership expires, users won’t be able to access their Save Data Cloud backups. However, Nintendo will allow users who resubscribe within 180 days to access their previous Save Data Cloud backups.
Classic games in the NES – Nintendo Switch Online collection and the save data for those games will not be removed unless the user chooses to do so manually. These items are stored locally on the Nintendo Switch system but cannot be accessed without an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.

We’ve reached out for comment from Nintendo and will update as necessary.

[h=1]Nintendo adds more NES games to Switch Online lineup[/h]

[h=2]‘Special save data’ for The Legend of Zelda also released[/h]

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have access to three more NES games as part of their subscription: NES Open Tournament Golf, Solomon’s Key and Super Dodge Ball. That trio of classic games joins the 20-game lineup that launched in September.
Perhaps more interesting than the addition of three additional NES games is an unexpected release of “special save data” for The Legend of Zelda, a game that was part of the Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online launch lineup. That save data will let players “start their adventure with a ton of rupees and items, including the White Sword, Magical Shield, Blue Ring and Power Bracelet.” Basically, that save file will make The Legend of Zelda a much easier game to start playing for newcomers.
In a press release, Nintendo promised to release more special save data for other NES titles, “offering fun new entry points into fan-favorite games.”
If you’re unfamiliar with the NES games that Nintendo released for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers today, here are official descriptions of those titles:
NES Open Tournament Golf – Challenge another player in Stroke, Match and Tournament modes on three fantasy courses in the USA, the UK and Japan. Make sure you keep an eye on the wind and distance to the hole before selecting your club, or else you’ll be racking up some high scores … which is exactly what you don’t want to do in this game.
Solomon’s Key – As Dana, a skilled and talented hero, you must strategically maneuver through over 40 stages using mysterious block-creation skills and other magical powers. Free the captive Fairy in each stage by finding the Bell, and escape by grabbing the Magic Key. Use quick thinking and magical firepower to discover hidden items and evade numerous enemies as you race against the clock.
Super Dodge Ball – In Super Dodge Ball, you take control of the USA Dodge Ball team and travel the world in an effort to become the best dodge ballers around. Step onto playing fields in countries all over the globe and use a combination of normal and super shots to help take down your opponents. But be careful, as some destinations have surfaces that can affect your footing.
Nintendo Switch Online launched on Sept. 18 and offers access to online connectivity features, including cooperative and competitive multiplayer, for Switch games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and Mario Tennis Aces. A 12-month subscription for Nintendo Switch Online costs $19.99.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch dominated Black Friday with record-breaking sales[/h]

When the Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, it looked like it would be a runaway success. Flanked by new entries in theMario, Zelda, and Splatoon franchises, the Switch was already an improvement over the Wii U by the end of the year. All Nintendo had to do was continue to court third-party developers while maintaining a steady stream of first-party content in the years to come. Unfortunately, game releases slowed to a crawl in 2018.
You might think that would affect Switch sales this holiday season. Sure, Nintendo fans are looking forward to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in December, but would the Switch, still priced at $300, really be able to compete with $200 PS4 and Xbox One bundles? Well, according to the latest data, the answer is a resounding yes.

In a press release on Wednesday, Nintendo revealed that it broke two records from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday:

  1. The Switch became the fastest-selling Nintendo console in US history over that five-day period.
  2. The Switch had its best-selling week in the United States since launching in March 2017.
Citing Adobe Analytics, Nintendo claims that the Switch not only broke a few records, but was also “the overall top-selling video game product online for the Black Friday-Cyber Monday time period.” In other words, the Switch sold better than the PS4 and Xbox One, both of which were available at lower price points.
Overall, Nintendo’s internal sales figures show that consumers spent more than $250 million on Nintendo products from November 22nd through November 26th. This includes video game systems (Switch, 3DS), retro consoles (NES Classic Edition, SNES Classic Edition), games, and accessories. Total hardware sales increased 45% over the five-day stretch from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday compared to the same period in 2017.
Nintendo also shared the lifetime sales figures for all of its main home and portable consoles following Black Friday:

  • Lifetime sales of Nintendo Switch have reached more than 8.2 million units.
  • The total installed base for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems has hit 22 million.
  • The SNES Classic Edition system surpassed lifetime sales of 2.5 million.
  • The NES Classic Edition system surpassed lifetime sales of 2 million.
Whether or not Nintendo’s lack of content will eventually cause Switch sales to fall off a cliff remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the Switch is still among the most wanted gadgets available this holiday season.

I bought Nintendo Switch six months ago, and it was one of the most successful purchases for the last 2 years. Nintendo game store has a great collection of colorful and exciting games. Nintendo is not afraid to go its own way, to make their games, their concept of a portable console designed for two players, they create a really unique well-sold product. I think that this system deserves to be on the list of the best handheld consoles.
