New Adata SX6000 Lite NVMe SSD not performing?

Hi guys,

I bought an Adata XPG SX6000 Lite 512 gb NVMe SSD from galaxy.pk a few days ago and I feel like it's not performing well.
The advertised speeds of this SSD are 1800 m/s read and 1200 m/s write and according to benchmarks, I'm getting way below that.

Here are some screenshots of the benchmarks:

AS SSD Benchmark:

Userbenchmark.com Benchmark:

Can you guys please tell me if these speeds are normal for this SSD or not?
Also, if anyone else has this SSD, can they tell me what speeds they are getting?

One more thing: when I use Adata's official SSD Toolbox software to update the SSD's firmware, it tells me "This is not an Adata product". What am I supposed to make of this?

Lastly, my PC specs are:
Processor: i3-8100
GPU: Rx 580 8 gb
RAM: 16 gb DDR4 2666
HDD: 1 tb Seagate

All help appreciated, thanks guys! :)

You wrote it the other way around, its strange to hear for any storage device having more write speed than read speeds, it might be 1800 read and 1200 write and that could be advertised for higher capacity sad whats the capacity on yours? , user benchmarks show similar results

Sorry for that, I corrected the speeds. Also, the SSD is a 512 gb one. What do you mean when you say user benchmarks show similar results?

I'd say those results seem normal given your 512 is giving better results to his 128gb

Hmm, you might be right but one thing I notice is that his SSD is a different model to what mine is. Mine's the Lite version of these SSDs and his is the normal one I think.

Anyway, I did find some videos of my model and in one of them, the guy is getting just a little over the advertised speeds. To be fair, though, he does have really good specs and his benchmark settings are different. I'm trying to do the same settings but there's no way to do that. There's another vid that has low speeds similar to mine, but I'm still not convinced it's okay for my speeds to be so low.

Are you sure I can consider it to be fine? I was so sad after getting it, thinking I'd wasted 13.5k rupees.

But what could be the reason for their official software not recognising this SSD and saying it's not an Adata product? I guess it's too new?

Hey,

I had the same issue - I bought Adata S11 Pro from Galaxy and was hitting lower then advertised speeds. Turns out my motherboard's m2 port was operating at x2 by default and i had to change that to x4 in the bios settings. You may be running into the same issue.

Thanks for the reply. I guess that could be the problem with mine too, but honestly I tried but I can't find any such setting for my motherboard in the BIOS. It's a standard Gigabyte motherboard. I actually tried something like this before too and ended up corrupting my Windows haha. I had to reinstall it.

I have the Gigabyte H310M S2P motherboard. It says on their website that it has a PCIe Gen2 X2 interface. I guess that means there's no support for X4 (which my NVMe SSD is mainly). Anyway, what speeds was your NVMe SSD before and after changing the setting?

Tested both x2 and x4 (Difference is substantial).

x4:

x2:

But based on the results, I think bottleneck is not the interface but the ssd itself in your case.

Do you mean that the SSD could be faulty? I don't wanna bet on that, I think getting a motherboard with PCIe Gen 3 X4 will fix it.

Google says that PCIe Gen 2 X2 gets a max of 1000 Mb/s so I'm not sure how you're getting above that with it. Hmm..

Was it this much originally too, before you found out about the setting?

Also, which motherboard do you have?

Edit:

Just found this on Kingston's official website on its FAQ about SSDs:

"The PCIe interface is faster, as the SATA 3.0 spec is limited to ~600MB/s maximum speed, while PCIe Gen 2 x2 lanes is capable of up to 1000MB/s, Gen 2 x4 lanes is capable of up to 2000MB/s, and Gen 3 x4 lanes of up to 4000MB/s."

So you must have atleast Gen 2 x4 if you're getting above 1000 Mb/s. My motherboard is limited to Gen 2 x2. :(

Also, about connecting PCIe x4 M.2 SSDs to an x2 slot:

"The PCIe M.2 SSD would only be able to operate at PCIe x2 (2-lane functionality) speeds within that motherboard. If you purchase a motherboard that supports PCIe x4 speeds, your x4-capable M.2 SSD should work as expected within that environment."

So I guess it's settled. It's my motherboard. I guess I'll switch to a better motherboard in the future.

I have Asus Z370E https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z370-E-GAMING/ - You're right about the slots - Both M2 slots on my motherboard are Gen 3:

I think upgrading your board to H370 (e.g https://www.gigabyte.com/pk/Motherboard/H370-AORUS-GAMING-3-WIFI-rev-10/sp#sp ) or Z370/Z390 should solve your problem.
Yeah, you have a good motherboard in that regard. I'll think about upgrading, will probably do it when I want a new processor.

Thanks for helping me out guys, I am so thankful! Greatly appreciate you guys both for posting :)

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.
