Aoa fellow simmers and gamers. In this simulation I flew a Delta A320 into Hurricane Larry over Atlantic ocean, pushing through the storm and harsh winds, emerging into the clear skies, and capturing breathtaking views. Check timestamps in video's description.

It’s not just single-engine aircraft after all

Toady at its annual X019 presentation, Microsoft previewed a handful of additional aircraft coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator. They include Boeing’s massive 747 commercial jetliner, the fan-favorite Citation twin-engine jet, and a tiny aerobatics airplane. You can see them all in action in the new trailer above.
Flight Simulator is the oldest franchise in the Microsoft catalog, older than Office and older than Windows itself. The last version of the game was released in 2006. This new version, in development by a French team at Asobo Studio, relies on Bing satellite imagery. It draws on more than two petabytes of information, including high-resolution scans of landmarks like the pyramids at Giza and the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai, to create lifelike images for virtual pilots.

Flight Simulator is expected to enter a closed alpha soon. The game is coming to Xbox One and Windows PC in 2020, and will be included in the Xbox Game Pass program.

Microsoft Flight Simulator will be released on Aug. 18 on Windows PC, publisher Microsoft announced Monday. Developed by Asobo Studio, Microsoft Flight Simulator will launch with three editions: a standard edition, for $59.99; a deluxe edition, for $89.99; and a premium deluxe edition, for $119.99.

Here’s what the three editions will include, according to a news release:

  • The Microsoft Flight Simulator Standard Edition ($59.99 USD): includes 20 highly detailed planes with unique flight models and 30 hand-crafted airports. The Standard Edition will be available with Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta).
  • The Deluxe Edition ($89.99 USD): includes everything from Microsoft Flight Simulator’s standard edition plus 5 additional highly accurate planes with unique flight models and 5 additional handcrafted international airports.
  • The Premium Deluxe Edition ($119.99 USD): includes everything from Microsoft Flight Simulator Standard Edition plus 10 additional highly accurate planes with unique flight models and 10 additional handcrafted international airports.
Microsoft also announced that Microsoft Flight Simulator will be available on Xbox Game Pass for PC on launch day. Pre-orders are available for Windows 10 players, and Xbox Game Pass for PC players can pre-install today.

Asobo Studio released Microsoft Flight Simulator into its Alpha 5 testing stage on July 9. The final closed beta begin July 30.

Microsoft Flight Simulator will ship on 10 DVDs, still require a download to launch

The Microsoft Flight Simulator retail release will only be available in Europe

Microsoft Flight Simulator launches for Windows PC on Aug. 18, and the vast majority of fans will purchase the game digitally. Nonetheless, Microsoft is partnering with a European company for a physical release. The physical edition will ship on 10 double-sided DVDs, and come packed in a special accordion-style box. It sounds outlandish, but it’s actually a boon for those with slow or severely constrained internet connections.

Details of the retail release come via Aerosoft, a developer and publisher of simulation hardware and software. Mathijs Kok took to the company’s official forums on Monday to make the announcement. The boxed set will include 90 gigabytes of data, and will still require an update from Microsoft before the game will launch.

Kok said on the forums that the discs include “the simulator code itself” as well as “the world and aircraft delivered by Microsoft.” Those who purchase the retail version will have the same access to the rest of the game’s content, which is drawn from more than two petabytes of Bing data including satellite imagery and photogrammetry data.

“When you install, the sim will updates all files immediately from the servers and you will get the very latest code for the simulator itself and all content is updated,” Kok said. “This is very much a simulator that depends on the cloud if you want to use it to its full potential. So the boxed version makes it possible for people on a slower internet connection to get the sim installed without downloading the ‘content’.”

While pricing for the physical copy was not announced, Kok indicated it would be close to the same price as digital versions of the game. Microsoft is currently selling three different flavors of Microsoft Flight Simulator, which range in price from $59.99 to $119.99. They differ in the number of available planes and hand-made airports included, among other things. Additionally, the game will also be available via Xbox Game Pass for PC on launch day.

Launch day concurrent player count on Steam : over 60,000.

For comparison with Recent AAA, Full priced games, here are some of the launch day concurrent Steam Peaks:
  • DOOM Eternal: 104,891
  • Resident Evil 3: 60,293
  • Horizon Zero Dawn - Complete Edition: 56,557
  • Half Life: Alyx(VR Only): 42,858
  • DEATH STRANDING: 32,515
More people playing Flight Simulator at launch than RE3 and Horizon Zero Dawn. Incredibly niche audience, they said :ROFLMAO:

"We have already sold more than a million copies of Flight Simulator, and it should sell even more due to the very good feedback we received. So Asobo is doing well,"

And this is with the game being on Game Pass Day 1.

Something something niche

Wait ... how does VRR boost frame rate above 30 ? that doesn't make sense ...

do they mean they'll run the game at an unlocked frame rate ?
