Hello,

I never learned how to ride a bike (neither bicycles nor motorbikes) as a child, and I am badly suffering the consequences now. Commuting to work is a struggle that I have to live through every day, since I have to rely on the highly unreliable Careem. Not only does it hurt the pocket considerably, I have to bear the frustration of waiting at least 45 minutes in the morning to finally find an available bike ride. And when it's time to go home, it takes me at least 3-4 attempts after the other guys refuse to give me a ride to my area to finally find one who agrees to go (with a well-defined frown on the face, of course).

This is driving me nuts and I have decided to learn to ride a bike and then buy one. But I don't have anyone to help me with this. I just need a place and a bike to practice and preferably a friend to give a few tips and guide me while I am at it. But since no help seems forthcoming, I was wondering if there aren't bike schools like there are driving schools where I can learn it? There must be something! Would really appreciate any help or suggestions here.

Thanks guys.

1. Make a friend in office who has a bike
2. Tell them to help you with this quest and you will pay for petrol charges
3. Treat them well ( chai, pani, food in dhaba)
4. Learn to ride the bike

More like the other way around, don't you think? It takes twice as long to cover the same distance with cars bottlenecked all the time.

True, but I would advise just buying a used car than motorcycle due to safety hazard ...There are literal blind people on roads in Pakistan...and with bike it doesnt matter who was at fault, cause its the bike guy who gets on the receiving end of the accident

yes traffic that way , but still traffic causing issues with bikes too , I mean I live near sargodah road , and when I go outside to buy something or stuff , I see alot of accidents daily here , most of them are all on bikes , blood dripping , ppl dying on road , and its a horrible when I see that if a bike is doing nothing wrong but a car come and push it and bike rider fell , I see all these things daily

I'd drive bike myself only if I get a full protection on , you can have that too , stay with mind , bcz lads these days are just driving like zooom zoooom and shu shu boom . thats bad

well thats just safety stuff
you can still learn or you can have a brother , friend or anyone whom with you can go here and there , I mean I have many friends who just driving cars , never did bikes because their fathers always had cars in house and no bikes , still working for most of them

back to topic , I think the best way is to get a light weight bike from someone and ride it with him , like first learn the system and later ride on , its btw easy to learn , I dont know practically I found cars easy , but just sit on it , take it to an open space just do 1-2 gears and go in circles , make and 8 , and then get on roads with least traffice , it will take just a week if you can do it daily

Buy the cheapest bike.

(<40K) used and trash it later.

The key to learning it is... Confidence.
There are alot of hazards as a biker and you will have to overcome your fear of such dangers to actually be able to learn it otherwise you'll be stuck at step 1.

....piece of advice when you do it, never let of the clutch at once. lol

Take it as an advice from someone who started learning pretty late. I would wake up earlier in the morning after fajr or so. There is plenty of time as people usually commute after 6.am. You definetely need your own bike to learn as quickly as possible. I would advise you to buy a fully automatic bike. It will be a bit costly but it will be damn worth it. There is no clutch and shifting gears is as easy as playing on a video game. The more you throttle the faster it will get.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I agree that cars are better from the safety point of view, but I can't afford one yet. At best, I can get a cheap used bike.

I had no idea automatic bikes existed. Sounds cool

My first question is do you know how to drive a car bro? Since a car driver has much experience he knows the road safety measure rules and regulations he would have no hassle in learning a motorbike myself is one of them after years of driving a car i bought a motorbike to travel on short distances it took me some days to learn and to know how to operate the controls of motorbike in few days I was able to maintain the balance of my motorbike when newly purchased because I use to ride a bicycle when i was young but still i suggest you to be on the safe side and get a kei car instead in my opinion the cars with small capacity engines will give almost same fuel economy by the way i both have 70cc motorbike and 660cc suzuki alto

What's a kei car? More info please. And thanks for the advice.

And no I don't know how to drive a car either. But I'm almost sure that I can learn to drive a car much faster than riding a bike. Because I have no sense of balance at all with a bike, having 0 experience with anything on 2 wheels.

Get whatever suits you brother according to your budget i think a kei car is safe but it would be a foolish choice for personal use of a single person, cars are way more expensive than a motorbike all the cars in compact segment are named as kei cars for example daihatsu mira.
By the way if you decide to go with motorbike then first make yourself comfortable with it. Get someone's bike for leaening purpose tell him to sit behind and to operate the clutch while you are learning this trick helps a lot for beginners who have a fear of dropping the bike because there is chance of bike crash due to mis use of the clutch

OP, I had faced a similar situation when I started working back in 2015. Although, I had already learnt how to ride a bicycle and used to do a lot of riding in my teens.
I didn't know how to ride a motorbike when I bought one. I asked a friend to come to the showroom with me and had him take it to my home and park it in the garage. I just asked the basics about clutch and gear changing from my friend and learnt the rest of it on my own. In a month's time I took a first ride to office and been doing that since. One advantage I had while I started learning was that I live in a colony which was fairly very less populated back in 2015, so it was easier for me to learn without hitting into a vehicle or a ped.

So I would suggest you to borrow a bicycle and spend a week or two learning how to balance and traverse through a few crowded streets here and there. After you have learnt how to balance through crowded areas, buy a motorbike, cheaper or expensive its your choice (I bought expensive one though on installments), rather than learning in crowded streets find yourself an open area like some play ground and spend a week or two learning how to shift gears on time while maintaining balance. After a week ride the bike into less crowded streets and see for yourself where you stand, gradually ride on more crowded streets, highways etc. Know that, you will only be able to learn it by yourself, others could only tell you about gear shifting etc. Controlling your fear and being confident is going help you a lot, however, being over-confident might get you killed.

One more thing, riding a motorbike is much more enjoyable than driving a car once you get a hang of it. Ride safe!
