Although, I've a qualified ACCA and CA (inter) but I've an interest in technology. I've been doing programming for 6 years (mostly in digital product industry) online. Recently, I was wondering what is the situation of IT job market in Pakistan (specifically LHR). Since, I've no CS related degree (but experience in programming), I want to know how much opportunities are available for a person like me in IT sector. I don't want to get a 4 years degree just for job sake now. My questions are below:

1: Not having a CS degree, how much this factor can hurt me in Pakistani IT job market?
2: How much salary should I expect (given my experience and skills below) at first?
3: How much this survey is accurate for IT job market? (http://www.inspuratesystems.com/pasha/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/[email protected])

My skillets is following:

Languages: JavaScript (Proficient), HTML/HTML5 (expert), CSS/CSS3 (expert), SCSS (proficient), Python (some experience)

Frameworks: Express.js (proficient), Vue.js (proficient)

Databases: MongoDB (proficient), SQL (some experience)
Paradigms:Imperative(procedural, object-oriented), Declarative(Functional, Database)
Others: WordPress, Git, Gulp, NPM, Bower, Webpack

OS: Windows, OSX, Linux

A company who is on the lookout of skills with your relevant experience may hire you and pay you good. However, degree might matter to most of the companies in IT sector in Pakistan.
But to be honest most IT projects are being served for the western market so you can join small groups of people who work as a team and share profits among them.

its hard to say..it depends on the person hiring you to be honest..most recruiters would overlook you due to a lack of a degree, but some technical professionals who actually will be working with you will probably ask for some sort of a test.

I would suggest that you invest in a personal portfolio/website where you can at least showcase the stuff you have done to have a better chance and contact people personally *in real life or linked in, etc

Well, I've done I.C.S at intermediate level, if that might help? If not, does any certificate can help overcoming this hurdle?

Regarding portfolio, yes I've some decent projects showcasing my skills mentioned above and I was thinking to create a portfolio site, thanks for your suggestion.

There are a lot of startups in Lahore, try to look for one that requires the skillset you possess and approach them, showcase your portfolio. Since you don't have a CS degree, best thing for you is to get some industry experience under your belt and that's going to serve as your bypass for the CS degree. No one's going to be talking about your degree once you have some experience in your CV.

Well the actual translatable skill is learning how to programme (pseudo code and code structure), syntax is a secondary thing, I know this skill so, if need be, I can learn other technologies as per job requirement. I've 6+ years of digital product building experience (mainly premium WordPress themes) don't you think this would help as industry experience, although it is not in local job market.

It would a bit but you need to showcase that, sell it in your CV so that you can get yourself an interview call. Rest I imagine, you can handle.

Brother , i was same on your track i did CA inter and then moved to CS , simple thing is first think what you wanna do ? i am simplifying it what i see in your scenarios

1, you are just after job and thats up

option is to reach out to officies directly and keep applying via online or references .. keep trying
But the Catch is : as per our system you need a degree to grow in 80% cases sorry but this is the way it is in our country unfortunately

2, you wanna job + carrier in IT

as above you need to keep on upgrading your self by doing certifications check out AI and Deep learning its the future ..!

3, you wanna job + carrirer in CA

i dont think you see this as an option , but if you do then you already have this degree ( cert ) so keep moving but i tell you at certain level you need MBA to beat the promotion race in our corporate culture ( Fxxxing culture ) sorry to say but its reality

if you need any further guidance do let me know

by the way i was having same pathway , i am CA drop out by choice and then joined CS with CS degree i worked in financial sector for 13 years and finally i am working in CS as BA the point is i never left programming and i kept on doing programming during i worked in banking sector as well and thats how i made my way i always keep doing what i love ( IT things ) so if u are focused and clear on your goal then keep doing it it may hurt you hard but keep doing it and u will finally reach to your dream ... but for that you need to have a dream...

Thanks for your detailed input. I want to build things (programming is just a channel) but at the same time I want good growth + income to support my family and have a decent lifestyle. I know, with my current skill set and experience, I can get a job in IT sector but if not having CS degree is going to hamper my growth down the road I've to rethink.
