Hi guys,

This is a bit off topic thread.

I just wanted what your thoughts are. Is it possible to be socially anxious because of being introvert? And is it okay?

I think social anxiety is independent of being introvert or not. But that's just what I think, I have both clinical depression and anxiety diagnosed

As for is it okay? Yes why not?

It's totally ok to have it unless it's moving towards disorder direction according to DSM criteria & it's influencing the regular functioning of your life.

It is influencing my day to day life, what should I do? Zoloft makes me have nasty side effects and I can't afford therapy

Try meditation. As close to magic as Harry Potter.

I am in the final year of my Masters's Degree in Psychology, so I can't give an expert opinion. But I am strongly against treatment through medication unless it's the worst condition, which social anxiety is not. Your best bet is Hypnotherapy & CBT. It's effective. If you can't afford Paid therapy. Search for Subliminal Affirmation audios on Youtube, They are not as effective as Therapy but they work to some extent.

What nasty side effects if you don't mind me asking?
Zoloft or sertraline in general do have SEs especially in the first few days of therapy. If they persist after a week and are intolerable, try another SSRI, fluoxetine, citalopram, etc.

If anxiety is so severe that it interferes in your social/occupational functioning then you definitely need treatment. CBT should be the first step and if not accessible, try the SSRI.

You can also try Propranolol 10mg before an anxiety provoking situation. It should help.

I really hope your opinion would change. Social anxiety can be debilitating and in his situation, its affecting his day to day life, so I wouldn't disregard it like that. Also, hypnotherapy is not evidence based, while CBT is. CBT would be your bread and butter when you qualify. You'll know what I mean when you gain practical experience in clinical psychiatric setting.

Wow man long time no see, good to have you back. Side effects were nausea, weight gain and the worst of them irreversible hairloss! Which I haven't still recovered from yet and it's been 3 years since I quit cold turkey. My doctor prescribed Zoloft for "Clinical depressive disorder" (what he wrote)

Hi kaiser, I am still in learning phase. thanks for pointing out my mistake. Being an introvert I also avoid social gathering but its not savior & not effecting my daily functioning. I already pointed it out in first post which you probably missed to read.

I don't wanna be the guy to come here and start a religious talk but in my humble opinion most of these problems (when they reach to the point where it's meddling in with your daily functioning) arise due to reclining spiritual health. Reason why this and suicides are more common in the West. We take care of our body and physical health but we forgot the soul.

I'm an introvert as well, I prefer chatting/texting to phone calls. I don't even pick up my friends' phone calls cuz I know they are gonna invite me to a gathering. I avoid people more than I'd avoid a deadly plague but I don't have anxiety/depression.

Again don't wanna be the boring guy saying to pray 5 times a day and read Quran. I'd say something different. I'm gonna be honest tho. These things felt a chore to me. I felt like I just had to pray because it's obligatory. But not now. Try reading a few books on Sufism and it's practices. Islam isn't all about worshipping as these recent Maulanas seem to give the image. It's about coming to terms with your inner self. Infact, most of these practices like meditation, yoga, etc in the West and in the East are taken from Islam and practices of our saints. Anyways if you are interested in reading books on Sufism, do tell me. I could name a few to start with.

Good to hear. I'll list two which I've really read and one or two which are really popular among the Westerns.

1) Sirrul Israr by Huzoor Ghous-ul-Azam R.A

Read from here - https://archive.org/details/SirrUl-israrurduTranslation/page/n44/mode/2up

This one's a really short book around 200 pages. I didn't felt the need for a Sharah for this one but I did read a another one before that so don't really know if you'll understand this but imo it's okay, not that hard. Actual book starts from page 50 but it's definitely a worthwile to read the terms and their meaning used from page 40. This is gonna help a lot. And I'd advise reading these if you decide to go for Kashful Mahjub or any other Tasawwuf book first. You can buy it from dervishonline, another cheap one. Around 400 PKR.

2) Sharah Kashful Mahjub (written by Hazrat Ganj Baksh R.A, Sharah by Wahid Baksh Siyal R.A)

Read from here - https://archive.org/details/kashf_ul_mahjoob_sharah/mode/2up

I'd recommend skipping the pages from 51-121, especially if you are not interested in reading how Hinduism and other religions have roots of Islamic Sufism/Tasawwuf in them. The first 50 pages consist of a more introduction to the whole Tasawwuf/Sufism thing, though it can also be skipped. The real book starts from 121. If you want you can read the original book without the Sharah (Tashreeh) as well but I'd really advise against doing so. This book can also be bought from sites like bookcorner.com.pk and faisalpublishers site for around 500 PKR. A really good book.

Now the ones popular among the Westerns are usually books on Maulana Rumi R.A and books written by Al-Ghazali R.A. Rumi R.A don't have any original books, he has poems. The only books are about his life. Haven't read Ghazali's books but this might be a good introductory book

The Alchemy of Happiness
Read Here - https://archive.org/details/cu31924028976161/page/n9/mode/2up
Urdu ver - https://archive.org/details/Keemiya-eSaadatByImamGhazliurduTranslation/mode/2up

The urdu version is much much bigger than the english version though. I think it includes portions from his other book as well. There are others as well but wouldn't say they'd be interesting as they are more on the Aadaabs of life and things to do/not to do etc. So wouldn't really be that interesting until you read the core part that's usually new to most people as nobody talks about that stuff.

In short, try starting from Sirrul Israr and Alchemy of Happiness as they are both short but introductory books.

If you aren't into reading, watching video lectures is another good way to get into it. Infact it's one of the easier way. There is only one person from Pak which really talks about this stuff. However if you or your family is sensitive to the Maulanas you should hear (u know, ppl don't like to hear the ones against there maslak etc), there is an english sheikh as well who is really well educated on these topics.

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.
