9 Year Old Writes iPhone Application

The 9-year old I am speaking of is Lim Ding wen from Singapore, and the app he developed is called doodle kids Designed with his artistic younger sisters (aged 3 and 5) in mind, the app allows users to draw shapes in random colors and then clear their work with a shake of the phone. Since its launch two weeks ago, the freebie app has attracted over 4000 downloaders.

Apparently, Lim is fluent in six programming languages and started using the computer at the age of two. Since then, he has completed over 20 programming projects. Currently, he is in the process of developing a game called Invader Wars, which he hopes to launch on the app store in the near future. His father, who also writes iPhone applications, claims that they check their statistics every night in a friendly father/son competition.

NYCC 09: Bethesda developing iPhone title

In the closest thing you'll find to a Megaton announcement at New York Comic Con, Fallout 3 executive producer Todd Howard has confirmed during a panel at the show that Bethesda is now working on an iPhone game. News of this comes from Newsweek corespondent N'Gai Croal's twitter feed (we heard it, too -- sitting in the audience!) and includes no other details. That's because there weren't any.

Whether the game is Fallout-related, Oblivion-related or something completely new, we're intrigued to find out. Who knows, maybe it's that ill-fated Oblivion PSP title that never made it to market. Check back later for our full report on the Todd Howard and Ken Levine panel at Comic Con.

Iphone killer? Toshiba TG01 hands-on

Toshiba only brought along two working TG01 prototypes to the London launch of the Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone today, but SlashGear managed to get some in-use shots of the handset in action. The company is betting on consumers prioritising style, screen size and multimedia ability above all else, and while their claims to have created a “new category of product” can be dismissed as the usual marketing hyperbole, the Toshiba TG01 itself looks to be a very interesting device.

Toshiba will come in for the usual criticism of Windows Mobile devices for using a resistive rather than capacitive touchscreen. Although there doesn’t appear to be a stylus silo in the handset itself, the company confirmed that a stylus would be present in the retail box. Happily, even though the TG01 doesn’t have Windows Mobile 6.5’s larger controls, the sheer scale of the 4.1-inch 800 x 480 display means that there’s plenty of room for fingers to jab. It remains to be seen how much the multi-pane rotating GUI covers up the Microsoft platform; on both demo devices we saw Toshiba reps accessing the standard Today screen and Start menu, though this could well be down to the pre-production status of the particular devices on show.
Minimal hardware controls are fine for most functions - the on-screen keyboard looks quite a bit like that of the iPhone, we noticed - but we’re not so sure about gaming. The 1GHz Snapdragon chipset should handle mobile games with aplomb, but the method of control demonstrated in the driving game Toshiba showed us seemed less than streamlined, requiring multiple taps on different parts of the screen. The photo in the gallery below, showing a rather contorted set of fingers all trying to touch the screen at once, is a good example of this.

On the positive side, while title developers - and Toshiba claim to be working with several to produce downloadable, internet-enabled games - will have to work to finesse the control interface, one thing they won’t need to worry about is performance. The video and gaming running on the demo TG01 handsets were both smooth, slick and high-resolution, even in the less than ideal lighting environment; we’d love to know if Toshiba plan a TV-out cable, as we’ve a feeling the TG01 would do a decent job hooked up to a full-size screen as a portable media player. Out of the box it supports DivX files, and of course thanks to full Flash support you can play online video too.
In the hand, the TG01 is surprisingly lightweight and alluringly thin. At just 9.9mm it’s significantly slimmer than the iPhone 3G (at 12.3mm) and the Touch HD (at 12mm), despite having a larger display than both rivals. The casing is finished in soft-touch plastic, with a chromed strip running around the edges, and aside from a few hardware buttons - camera (controlling the 3.2-megapixel shooter that seems to lack a flash of any sort), volume and power being two obvious ones - and the touch-sensitive “home”, “back” and scroll-strip along the base of the display, and the microUSB port lurking under a hatch, it’s generally a clean design. Make no mistake, this is a very pocket-friendly handset.

iPhone App Solves Rubik's Cube in 20 Moves or Better

Now you can use this century's greatest gadget to do battle with last century's most-beloved geek toy. A new iPhone app called CubeCheater helps you solve the classic Rubik's Cube puzzle toy using a mix of sophisticated algorithms and simple image-recognition technology. CubeCheater sells for $1 in the App Store (here's a link).
Here's how it works. You take six pictures of your mixed up Rubik's Cube using the iPhone's camera — one photo per side. If you have an iPod Touch, you can also tap in the color combos manually. CubeCheater is able to recognize the placement of each colored square and generate a map of your cube. It then figures out the quickest path to solving the puzzle and gives you a set of easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions.
It's easy enough for kids to use, too. One of Wired.com's editors gave it to his daughter, and she solved her cube with fewer than 20 moves.
A demo video of CubeCheater in action is embedded below.
Using software to solve Rubik's Cube isn't new — mathematicians have been bending their brains into virtual cubes since the toy's debut in the late 1970s — but the math behind the puzzle-solving continues to evolve.
The current guru of Rubik's computer algorithms is Herbet Kociemba, creator of the open source Cube Explorer software program. Kociemba's solver software is currently used by computer science students at universities to build cube-solving robots, some of which also use a camera and image-recognition tech to figure out the color patterns.
CubeCheater uses Kociemba's algorithm to solve scrambled cubes. The app can also be tweaked to solve cubes with nonstandard color variations. CubeCheater even works in reverse — create a virtual mixed up cube inside the app, and it will tell you how to twist a solved cube to match your creation. Could be useful in making pretty geometric patterns.

Prey revealed for iPhone (awesome!)

This year is gonna be big for iPhone users ;) as many awesome titles coming out which includes NFS Undercover, Bioshock, MGS Touch etc. Developer "MachineWorks Northwest" recently revealed XBOX 360 and PC's title "Prey" for iPhone which will be published by "Hands-On Mobile". Thanks to Levi Buchanan from IGN for covering this news and leting us know about this awesome game which is expected to be released in February 2009 (WOW its this month :))

Well the gameplay might be a bit difficult for the newbie's but this game seems promising to me and will deliver what other titles failed to do, and after this awesome news I am waiting for the upcoming Bethesda's title which was just recently announced but there's no news on what the game will be but as far as I assume it will be Fallout 3.

OK now time for some screenshots and the credit again goes to IGN ;)

I dont think games have looked any better since 2019 onwards and they are performing worse and worse. Game developers have really dropped the ball.

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.
