CEO and President of game developer Crytek said Crysis cost 15 million Euros (22 million USD) to develop during a panel about the future of gaming graphics at the Games Convention Developers Conference in Leipzig, Germany. Yet despite the cost, Yerli maintained the game was profitable, adding, "if it wasn't profitable I wouldn't be able to stand here."

In the past, Crytek was responsible for the first-person shooters Far Cry (2004) which ran on its CryEngine 1, and Crysis (2007), which rand on its CryEngine 2. Crysis Warhead, another first-person shooter with ties to Crysis and also built with CryEngine 2, is being readied for release this September.

Yerli gave no word on what other titles the company might produce between now and 2012, when he believes the studio's next engine will be ready and a new generation of consoles will be available.

Ohhh man!! shit shit :frown: its too much way too much :rip:

22 million is lot of money

and they still made a hefty profit over that

:)

impressive really shows how far gaming has come

games are competing with other forms of entertainment like movies

n i read sumwhere that movie directors tend to check upcoming games like halo

n plan to release their films before or after casue ,, they lose loads of profit cause of such games :)

It is, but the main thing that came out of it was the Engine it self which will be used in the future, meaning further profits.

I dont know why people are so against the crysis LINEAR ENDING. COD 4,HALO 3, GEARS OF WAR all are linear and still you like it so why not CRYSIS. The problem really is that CRYSIS set soo high standards of open end gameplay at the start that people somehow felt limited in the end stages. Which doesent mean its bad but its linear. And linear is not necessarilly bad.

I must mention 22 million...WHAOOOOOOOO

Man from the looks of it you and I as citizens of pakistan bought pirated copies so we dont count in how many numbers of games sold.
Now consider a western market where a legit game cost 60$. Most of the people can never run Crysis at high graphics or even medium campared to COD 4 that can run on a 2 year old PC.
Now tell me will they go for COD 4 or Crysis.
Definately COD 4. Dont judge a game by how many copies it sold.(bow)

Thats not very surpirising considering the fact that 4 companies i.e Crytek, Nvidia, Intel and Microsoft were involved in the development of it. Intel dedicated 500 of its software developers for Crysis and Nvidia's team provided the graphical edge to the game while MS's team helped out with the DX 10 and the game's proper implementation on Vista, and Crytek obviously did the most job on the development.

When it comes to gameplay crysis was "meh" at best..It was just like a Micheal Bay movie with the whole emphasis being on the special effects and none on story what so ever....

Also if I am not wrong I read on gs that grid costed somewhere btw 15million dollars...

What about those who bought both huh?

Game copies sold just shows popularity/demand/profits but yeah you're right, you can't judge a how great a game is by seeing how many copies it actually sold. :D

The cost is high but there are other games which cost more than it.

Though i think they would have covered these easily, seeing nvidia would have paid them a lot as crysis moved hell lot of dx 10 cards. And 1.5+ million copies were sold. Which would be around 50 million of revenue.( just an assumption) .So their costs would have been covered quite easily.

Crytek CEO said so himself he wouldn't be standing around if they had not made a significant profit on it. I second the opinion by devildante99 that the increase in sales of GFX cards wud have definitely counted in the overall revenue.
