thanks for the guide man, my a$Xhole of a cable op was asking 500 to set it up,

just set it up myself using TPLINK-WR740N, i noticed a slight delay in webpages loading is this normal ?

also i want to ask is there any way to limit bandwidth on devices , im using orange package here.

Welcome :)
I never faced such issues but yes your ping will be slightly increased while using Router.
Mostly routers have bandwidth management options in settings page may be you can try those

Great thread and nicely described...

I've switched as well few days back to connect Yellow (2 mbps) and using TP-Link router TL-WR740N and working fine but having some issues as well in parallel like:

- Getting low speed around 120 kbps downloading speed in P2P (u-torrent client) but only IDM can grab 250+ kbps but not getting my bandwidth in other direct ways of downloading like firefox/chrome default downloader.

- Need to restart my router so often because whenever i open my PC or using on my cell it says connection is limited :-/ but after restart, it will work like as usual but sometime.

Anyone else having this problem ??? OR its only me...

Kindly check first page of this post i have already mentioned the maximum torrents and HTTP speed which you can get over Connect Communications. Yes these are capped. And no issues here with router as you stated. try to factory reset it and configure it again as i mentioned over first page of this post.

This happens mostly because of the torrent client. Too many sessions saturate your router's NAT which results in freezing of router. Close your torrent program (on all devices) and then see if it freezes or not.
Seriously ??? but I've never faced this problem in DSL and without torrent computer life is like in a room with Justin Bieber so, i cant dude...

LOL I said to stop torrents just for testing, not for lifetime. And also this reply was to answer your problem of router freezing.
"- Need to restart my router so often because whenever i open my PC or using on my cell it says connection is limited :-/ but after restart, it will work like as usual but sometime. "
For low P2P speed, see the answer by rev2008, it looks like your torrent bandwidth is capped.

I m facing weird problem , at noon time or evening time internet works fine , at Peak timing or at night after 12:30 gateway ping breaking and internet stop working. I complain to my local cable guy , he is saying ur wire is faulty (which is 2 month old btw). If my wire is faulty then how internet is working fine now ? how m getting proper ping right now ? and when this problem occurs i asked my neighbors they are having same issue. My cable guy have weird theory that in sunlight cable expends thats why u getting proper pings lol . Any ways what should i do now ? should i contact Connect people and asked them ? or should i switched back to PTCL ?

Try to plug it directly into LAN Card and check if its working if still the issue remains you should email at

With your Connect ID information and problem details also mention that your neighbors are also facing the same and cable guy is giving such stupid logics.
They usually reply back within 24 Hours.

It is actually very very easy to ser up a tplink router on connect internet. I tried using ddwrt firmware but failed
Simply bought a new router and voila. Set up my routwr in like 2 minutes...

So i am having some serious problem here... I have connect internet 1mb and TP-link WR-740n.... And its fully configured.... The thing is that from the past few days i have encountered a strange problem...
I load a website, it loads correctly... then again i click on a link it stops loading... And when i check the LAN icon on the bottom right, it doesn't show any yellow exclamation mark or red cross...
So yeah net stops working for a few minutes then again starts working and this happens continuously.... After every 15 min i'd say.... I think its an MTU problem.... Mine is set to 1400....
@r4fay

Yaar i forwarded some ports and to do that i had to change my IP to static.... but on the router page it still says DHCP is enabled... will it cause any problems ? should i disable it?

Oh and guys i am having another annyoing problem :( My steam download speed drops to 0 after a few minutes then after a few seconds again boosts up.... WHAT THE HELL is going on :/

* Are you using some DNS in router settings or via connection settings? if yes Remove that
* Try setting MTU as 1390
* Open RUN from start menu and type ping 192.168.20.60 -t and hit enter check if your PING response is okay or it is saying timedout
* if you have done some port forwarding try to factory reset your router and configure it as mentioned at first page of this post in order to identify the cause.

No i didn't set any dns through the router's page... But to set the IP to static i had to find the DNS server which were listed on the status page of the router's site... I copied that and entered it into the IPv4 properties of my LAN
Secondly, yes i have tried that MTU size but the problem still occurs
Thirdly i entered what you said... At first it was giving replies but then it continuously said REQUEST TIMED OUT ....
Fourth, i did Portforwarding now... where as this problem is ocurring from when the IP was dynamic i.e I didn't change any settings

P.S i did that PING thingy again and now its giving me replies continuously... i think its like i said... it stops working in the middle for a few minutes then works properly...
I'll try to do the PING thingy when the webpage doesn't load... then see what happens

To identify if it's router problem or something else:

Plug the wire in your LAN CARD, Use appropriate Dialer to dial and then check PING
if its still the same (Timedout after few moments) that means something is wrong at Switch or with your wire, and its time to call your area's dealer.

Hmm... i asked my area's dealer or he used to be ... and he said check after a few hours and now its working fine....
Although the steam download problem persists... think i'll make a thread about it

It could be another user's router advertising it's MAC address against the same IP (most likely 192.168.0.1) causing your ARP table to have it's MAC address instead of your router's.
Try changing your router's IP address to something like 192.168.0.250.
You don't need to assign IP statically, you can configure your DHCP to give you one IP by limiting the DHCP address range.

Ok... Its working all right now ... i contacted the cable man and after that its working all right BUT i still have that question about portforwarding...

I mean according to it, i need a static ip... all right i assigned a static I.P but when i go to my router's page ... On status page UNDER the LAN section my I.P address is, what my default gateway is...

Secondly when i check my LAN properties thru Control Panel, it says DHCP disabled but on my router's page its enabled... If i try to disable it... it still works fine but my mobile can't connect to the internet then... bcz the DHCP was assigning an I.P address to it...

So what the hell is going on... is the DHCP enabled for LAN or disabled? Are my ports actually forwarded?

Your router and your computer have their own IP addresses. A default gateway is like a doorway for communicating to the outside. In your PC's configuration, the default gateway should have your router's IP address, as your computer is going to use the router as it's gateway. When you are visiting the router's page, you are essentially seeing your router's status and configs.

Secondly when i check my LAN properties thru Control Panel, it says DHCP disabled but on my router's page its enabled... If i try to disable it... it still works fine but my mobile can't connect to the internet then... bcz the DHCP was assigning an I.P address to it...

Leave DHCP enabled on your router so that it can provide IP addresses to connecting devices such as your mobile phone. If you are manually assigning an IP address to your computer (static IP) the DHCP service the router is providing won't have any effect on your computer.

Regarding testing your portforwarding, you may check this.

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.
