Thanks Rev2008 for the useful info. I have a query and I feel hopeful that you would be able to guide me.
I have bought Connect Blue since a few days. I also bought TP Link router WR740N and got it configured from
the Connect Cable wala in my area. Now I wish to add one more TP Link router WR740N to act
as a repeater covering the other end of my house. Kindly inform me if it is possible and
how to do that. Could you provide me with the configuration required for the repeater-router for this?
Kindly help and with my best regards (bow)

(I asked this from my area's Connect Cable wala but he does not know how to do that.)

Its totally piece of cake bro. Just follow these steps :
1. Connect your Second Tp-link Router Individually with your PC or Laptop via Ethernet Cable.
2. Now open its Setting page by typing 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
3. When successfully entered Routers settings page look for LAN.
4. First what you need to do is change the LAN IP Address of your Router to something like 192.68.2.1 or 192.168.3.1 or what ever your like.
5. After you have entered the new IP Address, Reboot your Router.
6. Now open your Routers Settings page with the new IP which you entered.
7. When entered the Settings page Look for LAN or DHCP Server, now what you have to do is Disable DHCP Server.
8. When DHCP is disabled, Reboot your Router.
9. Now disconnect your Second Router from your PC or Laptop, and connect both Routers with each other, take a second Ethernet Cable, plug it in Router 1's any LAN port. Now put the other End of the LAN Cable on your Second Router which you have just configured, but remember to put the other end in seconds Router LAN port not in WAN.
10. You are done, now you can use your second Router as a Switch and as well as a Repeater.

1. Yes, I have done a lot of port-forwarding.
2. There's not much of a difference as long as the signal strength is moderate. The download rate drops about 2-4kbps, which I don't think is worth worrying about.

Any idea why other routers don't work? The other TP-Link that you tested, TL-MR3420, did it also have the same configuration options that the 740N has?

Yes it has same configuration options but it was not working. there is something wrong with DNS handling as sometimes i was able to browse some website at some specific page. I think TP Link has fixed it in firmware upgrade as "Messy" mentioned he upgraded 3420 to newer firmware and his cable guy changed MTU to 1390 instead of 1400 (Which Connect Communications headoffice guys asked us to use) and now "Messy" is using it with 3420 without issue.

Hmm, I have a Linksys E900. It has all the configuration options available. I guess I'll call up the head office and ask them if I can get it to work on their network.

Ibbu, with step 7 you have effectively put the onus on any available DHCP server to provide an ip which you most obviously think will revert to the primary Router. However, that may not be the case as the second router is on a different subset of the IP then the primary router. In this case, the devices connecting to the second router/switch will be unable to get an ip.

I had posted this in another thread:

"Can current connect subscribers try downloading torrents through this link? Basically, this is a website that accepts links to any torrent, caches the torrent file(s) and zips it, then it gives you a *.zip link to download. As connect users can download everything other then actual torrents at full speed, this will give you full speed to download torrents :). IMD may not be supported for free user.

Feedback would be awesome. Thanks.
"
rev2008 griciously tested the website and identified the bottleneck of 150kbps max bandwidth available to free users, he also mentioned furk.net which does not throttle speed, however it has a max file size limit of 2gb for free users.

Please share your experiences.

Bro you got it all wrong in step 7, what I meant to say that your DHCP should be off on all Routers except the Primary since only primary router will allocate IP Address automatically when you are connected to your 2nd or 3rd Router via Wire or Wifi, considering both those Routers are linked with the primary router. If you turn DHCP on, on more than one device than that particular ROuter will try to allocate its IP not the Primary Routers.

So bro clear your confusion.

You mean to say that the primary routers will provide ip's to devices connected to supplementary routers even though the supplementary routers are on a different ip subset???? Do you even know what you are talking about?

Bro ive recently studied CCN and CCNA so I know what I saying and telling people, so rather than telling me what to do, I would recommend you to ask the professionals as well, and they'll tell you that I'm correct. The thing you are trying to tell me well you are confusing yourself and that is with IP Address Classes. What I suggested on those 10 steps was only relevant to Class C IP Address not A,B or D or any other class, as for subnetmask well let me correct you, If your primary Router is set to 192.168.1.1 this its Subnet will be 255.255.255.0 where as if we would set 192.168.2.1 or 2nd Router and 192.168.3.1 on 3rd Router our subnetmask will still be same. So kindly correct yourself before correcting me my dear bro. If you want proof then personally go to your router and set 192.168.3.1 or 192.169.2.1 and then check the subnet mask which your Router will automatically pick or detect that would be 255.255.255.0.

If you want to have a meeting or an argument then feel free to talk to me on Skype and ill show you and give you live demonstrations. But please don't miss guide people since you're new here and ive been serving people in PG and outside PG for years and not a single one had ever complained. You can find my Skype ID under my PG Name Tag if you like to have a conversations on this topic. Otherwise you're just wasting your time.
