Navas is too good to be a backup. MAtS is our undisputed no 1 here to replace Valdez while Bravo replaces Pinto
Luis Enrique has made it clear that all three of our goalies will have to fight for a position. I know MAtS is our long term replacement for Valdes but don't get your hopes up on him making an instant impact. He's young, and Barça demand a lot from their goalies especially how they are expected to be good with the ball at their feet. He'll make mistakes, deadly ones as well, and will get criticized for it but that comes with the job. Navas would have been a perfect transitioning tool. Great goalie to make an instant impact while MAtS can be gradually introduced to the starting XI...
Just my opinion though...

I'd agree if it were any other position than GK on that argument but when you are a GK you need to consistently play, the blunders don't mean jack shit it happens to every GK. At MAtS age it is crucial for him to get as much play time as possible if he is to reach his potential. Just look at De Gea or Coutouis, two of the best young GK in the world, they got that way cause they had consistent playing time. If ManU had ditched De Gea on his first mistake, he wouldn't have been half the keeper he is. MAtS is young, he'll make mistakes but he'll need to be played consistently to become one of the best and having someone like Navas trying to integrate him slowly will only stunt his development

That's my point. A GK has a much advanced role at Barça. The only other club with the same philosophy regarding GKs is Bayern Munich. You might have heard the term "Sweeper Keeper". Keepers are expected to be good with the ball at their feet and distribute possession with short passes rather than long ones at Barça, unlike other clubs. Mistakes will be made. And it's not a matter of how it will damage the club's success but how it would damage the goalie's cobfidence.
22 year old GK, transfer of his life, steps up, different league, different targets, different style of play, makes mistakes, criticized by media (we all know how rough the spanish media is). Imagine how it would effect his confidence? That is why i think a perfect blend is required. Offering him the right amount of exposure at just the right moments.
Remember Rustu Reçber? And Robert Enke? Two goalies touted to be the next best thing, turned into flops under pressure of the Camp Nou crowd, and Spanish Media...

Of course we all want ter-Stegen to be successful and earn cult status. And i'm not doubting his ability either. But we see so many starlets, like Bojan, waste their talent because they weren't properly given the transitioning time...

Bojan flopping was his own fault. He let the fame go to his head and developed an ego that was undeserved at the time. MAtS is not your normal young GK, even at his young age he has impressive leadership qualities and organises his defense efficiently. He has a strong mental character and if he goes down the route De Gea took by paying no attention to the media, he'll be a success at Barca. He also is very good with his feet and had the best passing accuracy among keepers in the top 5 Euro Leagues. He single handedly won many games for Mondengladbach and there is a reason he is touted as the next Oliver Kahn

THAT's why I said I don't doubt his ability.

Bojan was a case of mismanagement. He was given a role which was too overwhelming for him. That's how players ruin themselves. It gets to their heads, like you said.

FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Luis Suárez

The Uruguayan will be travelling to Barcelona next week for a medical, to sign his five-year contract and to be officially presented to the media and fans as an FC Barcelona player

FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Luis Suárez. The Uruguayan will be travelling to Barcelona next week for a medical, to sign his five-year contract and to be officially presented to the media and fans as an FC Barcelona player.

Goals and competitiveness

Luis Suárez is one of the most productive strikers in European football. Since turning professional (2005/06) he has always scored at least ten league goals a season, whether at Groningen, Ajax or Liverpool. The 27 year old is heading for the Camp Nou as holder of the Golden Boot after hitting 31 goals for Liverpool last term, which means he has topped the scoring charts in both Holland and England.

The fifteenth Uruguayan to play for FC Barcelona is not just a prolific scorer, he also has a strong competitive spirit and a powerful figure, and he’s coming to Barça in search of even more. Luis Suárez thus adds his name to the impressive list of world class strikers that have played for the club in recent years, and is the fifth to have arrived with a Golden Boot among his honours.

He left because of Arturo Vidal being allowed to leave to United.
Reports are that he's being tapped up for the Italy job.... With Vidal's transfer nowhere near close, i'm more inclined to believe that he's going to be the new Italian manager soon

Yeah, that makes sense. Either are equally plausible theories. I do think that Vidal leaving (he will leave, whether it's United or not remains to be seen) is a catalyst because he will realize that with Pirlo a year older, and Vidal gone, winning the League and other honours, will be extremely difficult.

In fact he is on record saying that it will be very hard to win the League next year making no mention of Vidal or the Italy job. He said this a few days ago. Before the announcement that he was leaving Juventus.
