[h=1]Xbox Games With Gold features Splinter Cell: Conviction in July[/h]

[h=2]Assault Android Cactus leads Xbox One lineup[/h]

The list of free Xbox Games With Gold titles for July 2018, which Microsoft announced today, is led by Assault Android Cactus and Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Xbox One customers will be able to download Assault Android Cactus free all month long. A twin-stick shooter from Witch Beam, the game debuted on PC in September 2015 and was ported to PlayStation 4 in early 2016. But it’s fairly new to the Xbox platform, having been released on Xbox One in November 2017. The other Xbox One game for July is SMG Studios’Death Squared, a puzzle game. It will be available free from July 16 through Aug. 15.
On the Xbox 360, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown will be free from July 1-15. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction is the free game for the second half of the month. As always, both games will also be playable on Xbox One via backward compatibility.
In the meantime, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can still pick up some of the June games, including Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues.

[h=2]Xbox Live Gold subscribers have a hot August ahead of them[/h]

August is a good month to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, as Microsoft announced a strong game lineup for Xbox Games With Gold next month, lead by Forza Horizon 2 and For Honoron Xbox One.
Xbox One owners will be able to download Forza Horizon 2 — the standard, 10th Anniversary Edition of the driving game — from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31 as part of their Xbox Live Gold membership. Starting on Aug. 16, they’ll also get access to For Honor (again, the Standard Edition of Ubisoft’s historical fighting game), which will be available through Sept. 15.

Making next month’s Games With Gold lineup a little sweeter is the fact that Microsoft is currently having a sale on Xbox Live Gold subscriptions. A 12-month subscription is currently $39.99 ($20 off the standard price) and a three-month subscription is $9.99 ($15 off the standard price).
In the meantime, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can still get access to some of July’s Games With Gold titles, including Assault Android Cactus, Death Squared and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

[h=1]Xbox Game Pass for September: Onrush, Quantum Break, Halo: The Master Chief Collection[/h]

[h=2]Plus Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams[/h]

Quantum BreakandOnrushwill join Halo: The Master Chief Collection in the library available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers in September, Microsoft announced today.
Other titles added to the service are Shadow Warrior, a reboot of the 1997 original; Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams; Sky Force Reloaded; Manual Samuel; Snake Pass;and InnerSpace. More about the games can be found on the Xbox Wire announcement.
Quantum Break, by Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment, launched as a series of four episodes for Xbox One in 2016. We called it an “action game taking real lessons from the Netflix binge-watch era” in our review at the time.
Onrush, which launched in June,is a car combat multiplayer game made by alumni of Evolution Studios (which was behind DriveCluband the Motorstorm franchise). We enjoyedOnrushwhen it launched in June, but poor sales led to layoffs in the Codemasters team that made it.
Last week, Microsoft announced that Halo: The Master Chief Collection would come to Xbox Game Pass, bringing with it support for 4K resolution and HDR color for Xbox One X owners. The series comprises the remasters of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3andHalo 4, as well as Halo 3: ODST,which was offered free to owners when the series’ original launch had problems. All the games will support the new resolution and HDR options.
The additions give the Xbox Game Pass library more than 400 Xbox One and backward-compatible Xbox 360 titles. The service launched in the summer of 2017, and began offering Microsoft-exclusive games on launch day with Sea of Thieves in March.

[h=1]Overcooked going free on Xbox Games With Gold in Octobe[/h]
[h=2]Along with Hitman: Blood Money[/h]

Overcooked will be the main Xbox Games With Gold free game during October, Xbox Live’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb announced Tuesday on Twitter.
Overcooked, the kooky cooperative cooking game from Ghost Town Games, will be free all month long on Xbox One. Victor Vran is the other free Xbox One game for October; it will be available at no cost to Xbox Live Gold subscribers from Oct. 16 through Nov. 15. To be clear, the Games With Gold version appears to be just the $19.99 game itself — not Victor Vran: Overkill Edition, a $39.99 bundle that includes the game and two add-ons.
On the Xbox 360 front, Microsoft will offer the early-generation game Stuntman: Ignition for free from Oct. 1-15. The sequel to 2002’s Stuntman, Paradigm Entertainment’s Ignition was published by THQ in 2007 on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. During the second half of October, Gold subscribers will be able to download IO Interactive’s Hitman: Blood Money for free.
In the meantime, some of the September games are still available.

[h=1]Battlefield 1 leads Xbox Games With Gold for November[/h]

[h=2]Along with the original Assassin’s Creed[/h]

Battlefield 1 will be available free to Xbox Live Gold subscribers in November as part of the Games With Gold program, Microsoft announced Tuesday.
It’s a smart move by Microsoft and Battlefield publisher Electronic Arts — the next entry in the military franchise, the World War II shooter Battlefield 5, will debut Nov. 20. It’s the same thing Activision and Sony did in September, when Destiny 2 was free on PlayStation Plus during the month in which the game’s latest expansion, Forsaken, arrived.
Battlefield 1 will be free all month long, and the other Xbox One game for November is Flippfly’s Race the Sun; it will be free from Nov. 16 through Dec. 15. On the Xbox 360 backward compatibility side, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed — the original game, which was released all the way back in 2007 — will be available free to Gold subscribers from Nov. 1-15. And there’s a second EA title in the November lineup: Dante’s Inferno, the action game from the now-defunct Visceral Games, which will be free during the second half of the month.
In the meantime, Gold members can still pick up some of the October Games With Gold.

[h=1]Xbox Games With Gold for December features Dragon Age 2, Mercenaries[/h]

[h=2]How is it December already[/h]

December is almost upon us, and Microsoft is closing out 2018 with an eclectic mix of free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers next month.
Xbox One owners will be able to download QUBE 2 all month long. The physics-based puzzle game was released in March by London-based indie studio Toxic Games. From Dec. 16 through Jan. 15, the free Xbox One title will be 2014’s Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna), a puzzle-platformer based on traditional folklore from the Alaskan indigenous people known as the Iñupiat.
The Xbox 360 backward compatibility front is an interesting story in December. From Dec. 1-15, the free game will be 2011’s Dragon Age 2, the second entry in BioWare’s fantasy role-playing franchise. And in the second half of the month, subscribers will be able to grabMercenaries: Playground of Destruction.
Yes, you read that correctly — Mercenaries, which was developed by the now-defunct Pandemic Studios and published by the also defunct LucasArts in 2005 on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, is one of the two backward-compatible games next month. It appears to be the first time that Microsoft has offered an original Xbox game in its Games With Gold lineup. (Mercenaries has been downloadable from the Xbox Games Store via backward compatibility since April.)
In the meantime, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can still get some of November’s games, including 2017’s Battlefield 1.

[h=2]Acclaimed indie game joined by backward-compatible Far Cry 2[/h]

Celesteheadlines the free games offered by Xbox Live Games With Gold for January 2019. It will be available all month, along with Far Cry 2, Lara Croft and the Guardian of LightandWRC 6.
Celeste launched in January on a slew of platforms, Xbox One included. It earned four nominations at The Game Awards earlier this month, winning two, including Best Independent Game, and also took an award at the Independent Games Festival back in March. The platformer is also No. 5 on our list of best games of 2018.

Celeste and WRC 6 are the Xbox One titles for Games With Gold next month. Celeste is available Jan. 1 to Jan. 31, and WRC 6, a licensed rally racing game from 2016, is free to download Jan. 16 to Feb. 15.
Far Cry 2 and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light are the Xbox 360 games, compatible with Xbox One. Far Cry 2 became backward compatible a year ago; it’s available Jan. 16-31.Far Cry 2 was widely acclaimed when it launched in 2008 and has since influenced many games in several genres.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, an action-adventure spinoff of the the Tomb Raider franchise, was likewise well received when it launched in 2010. That game is available Jan. 1 to Jan. 15.
The free games still available this month are physics puzzler QUBE 2; Never Alone, a puzzle platformer from 2014; and Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction.

Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get access to two Xbox One games — Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and Super Bomberman R — in February as part of Microsoft’s Games with Gold program.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is the 8-bit-style precursor to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Koji Igarashi’s crowdfunded spiritual successor to Konami’s Castlevania series. The retro game will be joined by actual Konami game Super Bomberman R, the 2018 Xbox One update to Hudson’s classic multiplayer action game. The Xbox One version of Super Bomberman R includes a platform-exclusive character: Halo’s Master Chief.

[h=1]Xbox Games With Gold for March led by Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance[/h]

[h=2]Star Wars: Republic Commando, too[/h]

Microsoft’s lineup of free Xbox Games With Gold titles for March features spinoffs from two beloved franchises: Konami’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Electronic Arts’ Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.
Garden Warfare 2, which came out in 2016, will be free on Xbox One from March 16 to April 15. The other free Xbox One game is Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion, which was released just last year; it will be available free for the duration of March.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is the lone Xbox 360 game for the month. A third-person action title from PlatinumGames starring Raiden, the protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2,Revengeance debuted in 2013. It will be free from March 16-31. A game for the original Xbox, 2005’s Star Wars: Republic Commando, will be the free title for the first half of the month. Both of these titles will be playable on Xbox One via backward compatibility.
All Games With Gold titles are available at no additional cost to Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Those customers can still pick up some of the February games.

[h=1]Star Wars: Battlefront 2 — the original one — leads April’s Xbox Games With Gold[/h]

[h=2]Along with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2[/h]

April’s lineup of free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers doesn’t offer any recent heavy hitters on Xbox One, but the throwback games on Xbox 360 and the original Xbox are the highlights of the list.
During the first half of the month, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 — the 2005 Xbox shooter from the now-defunct Pandemic Studios and LucasArts — will be available free via Xbox Games With Gold. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, which was originally released in 2007 on the Xbox 360, will be the free game from April 16-30. Both will be playable on Xbox One via backward compatibility.
Speaking of the Xbox One, the first free game will be 2016’s The Technomancer, a sci-fi action RPG from the French studio Spiders. It will be available all month long for Gold subscribers.Outcast - Second Contact, a 2017 remake of a cult classic from 1999 by Belgian developer Appeal, will be free from April 16 through May 15.
In the meantime, Gold members can still pick up some of the March games.

[h=1]Xbox Games with Gold adds Marooners, The Golf Club 2019 to May lineup[/h]

The latter is a very meta adventure game in which a comic book superhero jumps into different graphic novels to learn how to fix his own series.

Xbox Live Gold subscribers can still pick up games from April’s lineup, including Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. Xbox Live Gold normally costs $9.99 per month (or $24.99 quarterly, $59.99 annually), but new subscribers can get their first month for $1.

[h=1]Xbox Games With Gold for July spotlights Inside, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night[/h]

Two days before the end of the month, and on a Saturday, no less, Major Nelson announcedthe four titles being offered on Xbox Live Games with Gold for July 2019. It’s another light-hitting month, which correlates to Microsoft’s push to get Gold subscribers to add on Xbox Game Pass.
The games:

Inside, launched in mid-2016, is Playdead’s spiritual successor to its 2010 game Limbo. It picked up a ton of awards in 2016 and 2017, many of them for art, design and independent games categories. Our review called it a better game than Limbo, which itself was an outstanding indie game for consoles.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the next most-recognizable title, but it’s also an Xbox 360 port of a 1997 game, no matter how great that one was. Fun fact: This was the first video game to break the 50 MB download limit Xbox originally imposed for good ol’ Xbox Live Arcade. That quaint restriction is why Portal: Still Alive (which was offered June 1 to June 15) launched for Xbox 360 later instead of the full Portal, which Valve wanted to release as a downloadable game.
Big Crown: Showdown launched for Nintendo Switch back in January. It’s an action/fighting/party game (first time I’ve seen that genre crossover) with one-button combat.
Meet the Robinsons is a Disney animated feature you’ve never heard of, and this Xbox 360 video game is its adaptation. It’s from 2007, the closing days of an era when most big theatrical releases got a companion game.
NHL 19is still available until tomorrow for subscribers, as is Earth Defense Force 2017. Otherwise, this is the third straight weaksauce month for GwG. For PlayStation Plus next month, Sony is offering Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and Horizon Chase Turbo. Subscribers there can still pick up Sonic Maniaand Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
Xbox Live Gold, mandatory for multiplayer gaming on the console, is $9.99 per month (or $24.99 quarterly, $59.99 annually). Microsoft is now pairing that with its Xbox Game Passservice at $14.99 a month, which also gets access to the newly chartered Xbox Game Pass for PC. New subscribers get their first month for a buck.

Torchlight and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow available on Xbox 360

August will bring some big games to Xbox Live Gold subscribers, with Gears of War 4 andTorchlight among the list of titles available free via Games With Gold, Microsoft announced Tuesday.
2016’s Gears 4, the first entry in the series developed by the franchise’s new stewards at Xbox studio The Coalition, will be a free download all month long. The other Xbox One game arriving in August is 2015’s Forza Motorsport 6, which will be available from Aug. 16 through Sept. 15.

    I absolutely hate parry and Sekiro made me love it, i hate sci fi and Mass Effect made me love it. This is the definition of genre defining experiences.

    With how great cod warzone has translated onto mobile. Mainstream Consoles have lost its value even further. Maybe console gaming was associated with TVs and how TV is not the primary source of media consumption anymore, consoles will lose its 200 million core audiences even further.
