On Chapter 5 in my 2nd playthrough on Hard. The combat is a lot of fun. Really like that the Operator stance shifts to the Punisher stance after a parry.

Some combat videos:

Spoiler: show

The wrath hound was super annoying with its bite grab thing.

P.S. The Metascore is now at 88.

The combat is great, they basically took the best parts of FFXIII and mixed with a bit of XV.

The game is ultra linear though, one of the questionable parts of FFXIII they also inherited.

Sega: "You never thought you'd see a Yakuza doing a dance mini game right ?"

Square Enix: "Hold my beer"

It looks/feels like SE took major cues from Majima's introduction scene in Yakuza 0 for the Honey Bee inn segment.

Oh boy. Finished. Will post some pics later.

Fucking sucked that SE blocked the share functionality for the final chapter ... it's absolutely nuts the way they pushed a PS4 level hardware. It was akin to the final boss in God of War: Ascension and thinking how the fuck something like this was running real-time on a PS3.

The game has some real weird graphical bugs like some doors and walls having PS2 level textures, but damned if the final 2 chapters weren't borderline CGI quality.

Basically Advent-Children in game-play form.

AAAAAAAAND that fucking ending... oh boy.

@Nomad you should definitely give this a shot.

TL;DR

Spoiler: show
Turns out this is not a remake of FFVII in the broader sense lol, the game diverts into a splinter timeline in the final quarter, thanks to Aerith and the interference and defeat of the whispers of the fates the party travels into an alternate timeline where Zack survives, Biggs from Avalanche is also alive and everything after Midgar is left open to completely new interpretation with the original FFVII events being the 'original' timeline the way it was supposed to happen without any external interference.

The possibilities of where they can go with the sequels are endless, they aren't shackled to the original game anymore.

TL;DR version of this :p

Spoiler: show
We Avengers now

Aerith is basically Dr. Strange in terms of the mystical shit she pulls off in the final stretch, lore-wise lol.

She's *way* too powerful than she has ever shown to be before. Hell, even in basic combat, her normal attacks are great at wiping out small mobs within seconds.

Also, you know this is a Nomura game when...

Spoiler: show
...there's a Kingdom Hearts edition of whispers wielding the same weapons as your party lol.

Yeah, her tempest attack does considerable damage and quickly builds stagger too.

Yeah that boss

Spoiler: show
The big Destiny boss is straight up Kingdom Hearts, the big shadow boss you face in every Kingdom Hearts tutorial.

You can see how much KH was still on Nomura's mind making this lol.

This was a tough fight. Took over 45 mins. Bahamut was by far the most annoying with his insta-kill Megaflare attack, AND he summons Ifrit on top of that!

hot damn, I don't think I can do a Hard more and not being able to use items in battle :p
You'll have no trouble doing it if you have the right materia/equipment and have every character at level 50. After finishing on Normal, you should be close to hitting 50 anyway.

Make sure you have 2 Elemental level 2 (preferably level 3), 2 barrier level 3, 2 prayer level 3, 1 magnify level 3 materia.

Defeating the chapter 17 VR simulator boss gets you an accessory called Gotterdammerung. It refills your limit break over time during battle. If you can get a hold of it, the main story bosses become a joke, with the exception of the last two bosses. Though they're also doable with some careful management of buffs.

Assign Magnify + Barrier level 3 to your healer, and use it whenever the Manawall buff wears off. The VR simulator boss will never be able to insta-kill you. In your ability grid, make sure to acquire all abilities that increase the duration of buffs.

DF did a massive DF Retro on FFVII, covering all the ports of the original, spin offs and even the remake.

A must-watch for fans.
