New Premier League Rules, effective 2010-2011 season (courtesy Shary):

New Premier League rules:

- Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least eight 'home-grown' players, at the end of each transfer window.

- Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who "irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday"

- Clubs can supplement squad with unlimited number of players under the age of 21.

- Changes can be made only during transfer windows, although in exceptional circumstances (eg goalkeeping injury crisis) moves could be allowed.

- Players loaned to Football League clubs cannot be replaced, but can regain their spot on return to parent club.

- Rules apply only to Premier League matches, not European, FA Cup or League Cup action.

- First deadline is 1700 BST on 1 September (24 hours after end of August transfer window).

Anyone see the ManUtd match. Did you see how C.Ronaldo got himself that penalty. Now thats cheating. He deliberately put his leg in the defender's way.

I might go to the Manchester City vs Liverpool match near the end of this month.
Cool dude.

Liverpool match still to come.

There are always events like these. Maradona's Hand of God and the way Italy got a penalty against Australia are perfect examples. Thats football mate, if you take the referee out it won't be too much fun then.

Liverpool 1 - 3 Reading

Liverpool got its ass kicked by Reading. Terrible game by Liverpool. Lousy passing. No coordination between the players. And lots of chances missed. Basically they panicked and now they'll walk alone.

Sheva ready to fill Drogba void

Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko is confident he can provide the goals in Didier Drogba's absence.

Drogba is expected to be out for some time having undergone knee surgery and the Ivory Coast international is also expected to travel to the African Cup of Nations next month when he recovers from his operation.

Shevchenko, therefore, believes he can be the man to fill Drogba's shoes and keep his side's title challenge on track.

"Didier is a very important player for the club but now the manager has given me a chance to play," Shevchenko said.

"I want to score and do my best for the team, and for myself.

Wenger upbeat despite defeat

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger remains optimistic about his side's Barclays Premier League title chances.

The Gunners suffered their first league defeat of the season on Sunday bringing to an end a difficult week for Arsene Wenger's men, having dropped two points at Newcastle United only days earlier.

Wenger conceded: "Boro were clearly sharper than us after a difficult period of games, which seem to have taken their toll.

"We have a few injuries at the moment, but it is easy to blame the players who are not here and I believe in the players who played today.

"We can't complain, we weren't sharp after four away matches.

Jose Mourinho ready for England

José Mourinho stepped up his campaign to become the England head coach yesterday by authorising his personal spokesman, Eladio Paramés, to confirm publicly his interest in the job for the first time. With much of the country clamouring for the former Chelsea manager to be appointed, Mourinho has taken it upon himself to keep his name in the spotlight by revealing that he would view an approach from the Football Association as a huge honour and would consider any offer seriously.
The Times revealed that Mourinho was open to offers the day after Steve McClaren was dismissed last month, but instructing one of his closest associates to talk so openly about his ambitions represents a considerable departure. Mourinho had previously maintained a studious silence, offering the newspaper and television reporters who camped outside his home in Setúbal last week only the platitude that he would rule out nothing.
Motivated by growing frustration at the FA’s refusal to declare its hand, Mourinho went much farther before flying off on a family holiday yesterday, with Paramés going to great lengths to emphasise his love for all things English and all but inviting Brian Barwick, the FA chief executive — who yesterday sought advice from Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United manager, on his search for McClaren’s successor during a two-hour meeting at Old Trafford — to make contact immediately.
The increased activity of Paramés, a close friend of Mourinho, who became his spokesman at Benfica, is also significant because, until October 31, he was employed as the executive director of Sporting Braga, the Portuguese club. The former journalist has since returned to work for the Mourinho camp on a full-time basis as they search for work and is doing a good job of maintaining his client’s high profile. “There’s been no direct contact from the FA, or on its behalf, but it would be an honour,” Paramés said. “He likes English football, the English people, the country and the players. But he’s not waving his hand in the air trying to get the FA’s attention. If he’s approached, he’ll reply.

“We don’t know if Mr Barwick comes or doesn’t come. If he comes, of course, he can talk with his agent. They’ll listen, like they’ll listen if there comes another club or another situation. I’m sure he’d consider the offer.”

With time on his hands, Mourinho has given considerable thought to how he would do the England job and has spoken to several of the players. The 44-year-old stunned Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner, and Peter Kenyon, the chief executive, with a presentation detailing his plans for Chelsea when they first met on the Russian’s yacht in Monaco 3½years ago and is preparing a similar document for Barwick, which will touch on everything from his plans for the senior team to his views on the medical staff and youth development.
It is understood that, in the event of him taking the job, Mourinho would retain John Terry as captain, despite the row over his fitness that marred Mourinho’s final days at Stamford Bridge, while his backroom staff would also have a distinctly Chelsea flavour. Rui Faria, the fitness coach under Mourinho, and André Villas Boas, the former Chelsea chief scout, will follow Mourinho wherever he goes and Steve Clarke, still the Chelsea assistant coach, may also be given the opportunity to be reunited with his mentor.
“Mourinho has ideas about what he would do if he were England coach,” Paramés said. “If he were approached, he’d consider it, discuss it, negotiate, present his own ideas. There are a lot of things pushing him to say yes because the football is spectacular and the players are very good players.”
Paramés reacted angrily to suggestions that Mourinho was using England to flush out interest from a big club, such as AC Milan, Barcelona or Real Madrid. “That is all lies,” he said.

Ronaldo aiming for legend status

Cristiano Ronaldo will use comparisons with Manchester United's "Holy Trinity" as motivationto get even better.

The names of George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton still roll off the tongue as easily as they did in their 1960s heyday.

They were afforded their nickname by United fans as recognition of their immense contribution to the Old Trafford club's rise to the top of the European game just a decade after the Munich Air Crash had cruelly wiped out Matt Busby's "Babes".

Yet now Ronaldo is part of a new trio being afforded a favourable comparison with the illustrious heroes of the past.

Together with Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez, the Portugal winger knows he still has some work to do if he is to leave a legacy as distinct as the one Best, Law and Charlton created.

The heat is on - Clichy

Defender Gael Clichy admits the title pressure is suddenly on Arsenal after their defeat at Middlesbrough.

Having drawn at Newcastle United last Wednesday, Arsene Wenger's team saw their lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League cut to one point by a 2-1 reverse at the Riverside Stadium.

With Chelsea due to visit on Sunday - and champions Manchester United playing at Liverpool the same day - it is the wrong time for Arsenal to lose their way.

But Clichy believes his side will relish the battle and hopes they will be able to recover some of their injured stars before Avram Grant's in-form side arrive.
