Looks like someone hasn't been paying attention. There have always been items exclusive to an $80 or $90 version of games, both on PS4 and Xbox One.

I think these editions are available for other games as well.
Yup, both Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4 had in-game content tied to $80/$100 Deluxe/Ultimate editions. But you won't hear that from Necrokiller, cuz good guy Phil :ROFLMAO:

LEVEL UP recently had the opportunity to interview Gavin Moore, Creative Director for Demon's Souls and a member of SIE Japan Studio, about various elements of the game. Of course, one of the topics that were touched on was the graphic section.

Now the question is, if the PlayStation 5 can be raytraced and it could have been implemented in Demon's Souls , why leave it out? As explained by Moore, it was a decision they made since it was something that was outside their initial ideal of the project. Also, there is a certain cost to implement it and they preferred to prioritize other elements.

“It's like any other graphic improvement, there is a cost [to implement raytracing]. If we had implemented ray tracing in the game, that would mean that we would have had to leave something out. There is a limited time in game development"

When we started development we didn't know there would be ray tracing in the game, so it wasn't in our original vision. What we wanted to focus on was the settings and the look of the characters. Everything is lighting in real time with shadows in real time
”, were the words of Moore.

The best looking next-gen game so far doesn't support ray tracing lol.

The only benefit I see of having more PS5 games supporting RT is that it'll pave the way for an optional 60fps mode sans RT. DeS already has a 60fps mode, so I could care less what the 30fps mode supports. 30fps is fine for most single-player games, but a higher frame rate is preferable where the option is available.

Press F for "more artistically controlled" pre-baked lighting :ROFLMAO:

wait so a game is using real time lighting and not pre baked because the tech and hardware allows it without any major penalties ... and that's a negative ?

Nah, the fact that pre baked lighting is becoming a thing of the past is being glossed over by its most ardent proponents because now they can crap on the next thing that will be out of the consoles reach in many games. We've gone from "who needs real time lighting" to "who needs ray tracing" :ROFLMAO:

Ray traced GI is a more accurate representation of dynamic GI that comes with a much higher cost. Won't be worth it as long as the GPU power can be used to offer other benefits instead.

And yeah, baked lighting isn't going anywhere either. A combination of dynamic and baked GI will continue to be used commonly in games.

Look at those performance metrics and the average frame rates.

Bluepoint have done an amazing job in both modes.

Game Informer (9.25/10)

For newcomers, Demon’s Souls will be the first exploration into the duality of despair and triumph, and hopefully go on to become a starting point for new Souls fans. For veterans, it’s a homage to an experiment that kicked off a fantastic genre. Either way, it’s wonderful that the nascent ethers from the original classic have coalesced and given us this delightful treat.
