Can banks automatically cancel debit card without informing the customer?

AOA everyone

I'm using mcb-lite card and have done a transaction through it this year in first quarter (most probably in Jan/Feb). I tried to do some online transaction last week, however it was not going through. After trying to get connected to the damn helpline, I finally got connected today and was told that my card has been deactivated since I have not used it for long. When I told them I did this year...and the rest you know the usual bs that the agents are told to repeat like a parrot...

The agent did record a complaint, however seeing from the history of mcb I have no hopes. It seems I have to apply again for the card for which I will be charged. Why should I pay for bank's mistake when they should have informed me before cancelling my card.

Is there any authority in Pakistan where I can complain about this?

Yes, it probably got deactivated because of the new chip and pin cards being issued on state bank's order, Both my HBL and MCB lite cards were deactivated without the banks informing me but its a free replacement so I got new cards from both banks free of charge.

Since MCB have disabled online payment on international transactions the MCB lite card is pretty much useless, I haven't been able to charge the card on a single site not even steam since getting the new card and yes online session is active.

same with my standard chartered card. got new chip one but it wont work online, complained and they said it would take a month or two to correct this to make it work on most websites.

I got a new card from SC but they didn't blocked the old one until I activated the new one...

i am banker telling you what is the reason
cards were not cancelled but after September 2019 all previous cards were replaced by new chip cards and all previous cards were supposed to be deactivated by 31st dec 19 which later extended to 31st march
and all cards were replaced by new cards with same card number and expiry date and without any charges but both bank and customers suffers alot in this recarding exercise as mostly persons address were changed and cards were delevered to existing adresses or either not tracable by tcs and in end returned to head office and since millions of cards were replaced once card was returned all those customer called helpline for redelivery or change of address thus help line system fully crash during those days of all banks and customers were cursing banks for their poor customer service

ahh that is the reason helplines weren't working earlier this year or from december onwards

You can apply for their hbl student id account. I made my account with them and been using it over 5 years.

in case of student account you need to provide your financial supporter source of income.and you will get union pay debit card only

I have SCB debit and CC. Both the existing cards were having chip but anyhow they sent me a new debit card having this chip n pin thingy but didn't sent me the chip and pin new cc. now my existing card is having chip and I have set up pin as well but on POS it is still working with signature and not asking for pin and since the new pin cards rolled out the vendors no more bother to sign the receipt. I have complained multiple times and they said that all SC cc are like this and they will sent out new chip and pin cc soon. please guide me if march 2020 was last date how come scb is still not providing me chip n pin cc?

well due to current situation few banks has extended date of usage of old cards.however it will be captured in ATM if your bank has not extended date of usage of old cards
i use to deliver 2 to 3 scb cards daily that are captured in our atm
you should ask your bank to provide you new card
regarding pin not asking on POS,its due to old POS machines as most merchant machines has been replaced with new machines .if they didnt ask pin at POS then they are using old machine or you are using nold chip card

scb has delivered me debit card so no issues of atm capture
issue is that of credit card which is still not delivered and yeah machine was new n it asked other customers for pin but mine was processed without pin.

Call them and ask for it to be delivered. It'll take around 10-14 days.

They're really slow at card printing now because of reduced staff.
