Trailer didn't entice me as much as it could've.
I still don't have a very clear idea about what this game really is apart from being a spin-off with guns. But maybe that's just me.
More information on the game will be released as Gamescon goes on. Maybe some of it will get you interested.
I hope most of 'atmosphere' doesn't turn out to be Bullshit, like Dark Souls 2.
The game's being directed by Miyazaki himself. If you can't tell from the trailers and pics already, the atmosphere is going to be standard raising.
This seems to be a blood drain move. Or maybe a special attack of a particular weapon. Either way, the point seems to be to spill the enemy's blood.
I really love this. The transformation seems so smooth and quick. It also shows that the game is very strategic. The player adapts to his situation, he changed his weapon to have more range since he couldn't afford to get close to the two beasts. Also, those
things look ferocious as hell. FromSoft's monster designs were always good but damn.
Miyazaki's art direction is still stellar. This is one of the only few times where I feel like the new hardware is being put to good use.
The new, more offensive combat actually goes much deeper, by way of our brand new Regain System, which rewards players for taking more risks and being more decisive and strategic. The Regain System allows players to recover health lost after taking damage by striking back at enemies within a short time period with a bladed weapon. Basically, The Regain system allows players a way to channel that negative energy they feel from taking a hit, and direct it back at the enemy to get revenge and steal back the health they lost.
The amount of health you can recover will be shown in yellow in the HP gauge, and it will get shorter over time if you hesitate to strike. You will still have to be smart and strategic with your strikes, as attacking indiscriminately could lead to taking more damage at the hands of the enemy. Now, the strategy and skill come into play in your offensive and counter-attack tactics, rather than waiting and timing defensive tactics just right.
One of the new bits of info we got about the gameplay. This is a very interesting way to keep the player engaged in combat. You can regain some health back by taking a risk and not backing away or you can lay off and not risk losing anymore health. It's a pretty clever way to give players incentive to be aggressive, and this is only limited to bladed weapons so now pot-shotting from far away to get back health. Leave it to FromSoft to add regenerative health into a game and not make it totally casual.
This pic right here is what it looks like to get that bit of health back. I used to think this was the visual effect of souls entering the player. But I guess that doesn't make sense since it's not a Souls game. I'm intrigues by how they phrased it though, "channeling negative energy back at an enemy". I wonder how it fits within the lore.
