Pakistani variant of the Arabic shawarma is an abomination, an atrocity, an obscenity , an *insert another synonym for "disgusting"*. What's copious amounts of ketchup, hot sauce, spices and cooked salad doing in a shawarma bread that barely manages to wrap around the filling? Name it something else assh**es!

An authentic shawarma is supposed to only have the following ingredients:

  • Unflavoured Meat strips cooked on a vertical spit
  • Shawarma bread
  • Pickles
  • Mayonnaise
  • Zero spices

So my question is, where can I find a shawarma that conforms to the above mentioned conditions? Anywhere in Pakistan would do. I only know of LUMS PDC which makes this and I miss it dearly.

The arabic version has a sort of sesame seed dressing / dip / sauce. Commonly called tahini sauce.

There is no mayo in authentic arabic shawerma.

U can try babgoosb doner. Though its a turkish doner and not essentially an arabic shawerma. But its pretty close.

Yeah but I think it varies from region to region. I remember garlic mayonnaise in the shawarma's that were available in Saudi Arabia. The authentic Lebanese variant might be using Tahini sauce. I'm fine with either as long as it isn't too spicy.

Had been meaning to try a Turkish donner for sometime. I only had it once and it was good.

Amongst the doners here the babagoosh one wins for me. Its not spicy. German doner is crap. All other are local craps.

If u find any other do share. I m big fan as well.

No wonder I never really found Shawarmas to my liking. Every one I've had so far is basically what you've described, I thought it was just me.

This place has got the most amazing shawarma plus hummus ever...I have eaten shawarmas all over karachi and this is hands down the best I have had.. A couple of people have told me that the owner won an award in UAE on his shawarma shop and brought it here. ..It is craaaazy good..

As Muaaz will attest, diet of muslim students living in germany consists of 30% doner+ other turkish dishes

On your recommendation I'll be especially travelling to johor from phase 6. Being an avid fan of authentic shwarmas myself I'll see if this joint lives to my expectation. The only other joints I loved so far are babagoosh in Lahore and edgeware road when it operated in Karachi.

Don't! I mean I visited that place yesterday after praises from NaNoW and many other people on Food SWOT's FB Page. And the person who had eaten Shawarma at any place in Dubai will agree with me its not even close. But yes people who have started eating desi shawarma's will feel the difference.

Ahh it reminds me the days when I used to school in Saudi. Authentic shewerma is not yet found here in Karachi, but the nearest I found was at
- Damascus
- Al Arab at jauhar ( continental bakery )

The hammus and tahini has to be precise to add up the flavour. This requires specialty :)

I tried out Al Arab a few days back. It wasn't exactly what was described in the OP but it was a tad closer than the street vendor variant. In my opinion, they still need to cut back a bit on the spices and veggies.

i have dreams about the shawarmas i used to have in sharjah... them shawarmas with fries inside *drool*

anyway shawarma to door ki baat he yaha to hummus bhi acha nahi milta... i personally make my own hummus at home. isn't as great as the original but definitely better than anything i've ever had at any restaurant here...

there is a shawarma wala in IoBM (cbm) it offers that same shit you find anywhere else but his hummus is good and the chicken too so yeah if you tell them what to put in and what not to then it comes out decent...

- - - Updated - - -

also is zatir or lahm available here anywhere? its a lebanese pizza type thing... that shit tastes great yo

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.
