1440p 120FPS marketed machine dropping below 720p for performance mode. YIKES!!

Ubisoft nerfed the PS5 version and now Series X can drop as low as 1080p now while PS5 maintains higher resolution, performance is nerfed.

Basically John Linneman saying that Ubisoft seem to have made the PS5 version worse in the latest update and avoid updating it.
They fixed the Series X version by making the dynamic resolution threshold bigger so it doesn't tear or drop as much .. but somehow managed to tank the PS5 performance with little to no change in its dynamic scaling.

EDGE score 8/10.

Ghost of Tsushima and BLM Morales got a 6 and 7, respectively.

Big YIKES for some EDGE fans on PG :ROFLMAO:

it's not the norm for patches on consoles to make frame rate worse. Only other prominent exception is the mess of a game that was The Witcher 3 during its first 6 months since release lol.

The latest patch has objectively made the performance on PS5 worse, there is no second-guessing or doubting that lol.

Sure they may fix it in the next patch, but the fact that they butchered a well-enough version for no reason will never change.

OK, so just like with Odyssey in 2018, seems like I am probably the only person on PG who likes these games. Finished all the endings and some closing thoughts.

First, this is a thoroughly unimpressive game. If you've played Odyssey, there is literally nothing evolutionary/revolutionary from that game, the only major game play change is the addition of a Stamina meter which sucks.

The main storyline, the viking era one, is just ok .. not good, not bad, it's just a very standard story that is easily forgettable like a Greedfall or some other similar game. Eivor is a mediocre character, Kassandra from Odyssey had 10x more personality.

But the present day storyline .. it really only picks up at the very end but god damn if Ubisoft doesn't know how to put some real good fucking teases for either more DLC or the next game in the present storyline.

Also, if you've played God of War (2018) you'll probably feel dejavu at how pretty much all the same Greek pantheon that game featured is present here in very similar roles. I guess that goes with that mythology but ... you know .. makes me feel the Ubisoft writers took a lot of cues from it.

And of course being set in the Viking/Norse myth, Thor's weapon Mjolnir, is an end-game unlockable.

7.5/10 (8/10 just for the present day ending).

Story of AC games have been mediocre since Desmond Miles died. Not one AC game had decent story after that chapter was finished. As for game play, its shame to hear that they couldn't improve it after taking one year break after releasing Odyssey.

I would have still bought this game if it they made it available on Steam, despite being mediocre....

Without spoiling, they're actually bringing the Desmond stuff back and tying it with the new story of the present day trilogy (Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla) in a somewhat interesting way. Almost all the central characters from the original AC games are back in this with the promise of more in further DLC.

The only problem is that these storyline segments are maybe 2~5% of the total package.

Completely agree with this. Story-wise, the whole back and forth between a period setting and present day, with Desmond gradually becoming an assassin was the most interesting thing about the series for me.

Gameplay-wise, I'll quote myself from a few posts back.

This series went in the wrong direction, and this video does a good job of demonstrating it.
Putting the multitude of bugs and performance issues aside, Unity was the last decent Assassin's Creed game as far as I'm concerned. The parkour was fluid and the focus was on playing as an assassin. Also, with all the unwarranted "next-gen living, breathing open world ZOMG" hype that was falsely thrown around for Cyberpunk 2077, Unity is a game that actually pulled it off with its population density, (not in a reactive/sandbox-ish way a la the GTA games, but still). It had its issues, but in certain ways, it was a game ahead of its time.

This sounds promising.

Just finished the game and boy what a freakin disappointment this game was. My love for this franchise was rekindled by Origins and i really really enjoyed Odyessey too, even though the map size was way too big and it was a little grindy towards the end. The mythical elements and the overall vibe of Cassandra more than made up for that.

But this game was real chore. The whole world of England is more or less uniform, its just mind boggling how all those world assets were reused over and over again that just made almost every other place more or less the same. 4-6 enemy design variants dont help either. Both the enemy and friendly AI are abhorrent. The mainline story and mission structure should not exist in a 2021 game. The whole main story revolves around Eivor going to a patch of area governed by a tribe, making an alliance, reporting back to Randvi and rinse and repeat the same more or less 20 times. None of the characters are memorable enough, even their faces tend to look like one another. Oh and the RPG elements are a freaking joke. There is little to no variation amongst weapon and armor attributes and I pretty much stuck to the same loadout for a good 80% of the game. And the game was buggy. I am usually good with rpgs being buggy here and there given how huge the worlds usually are but this game definitely had more bugs than usual. The one thing probably that I liked about the game were a few side missions that were quirky and imaginative but none of them seem to tie in with the main line whatsoever.

Agree played on Xbox One it was painfully boring to 100% game and achieve 1000 Gamerscore it wasn't fun at all, couldn't do it because of one side mission which is bugged since launch of the game, Overall story felt boring and all over the place only Asgard arc was interesting also stealth system is completely broken.
