My Own Little World.
I finished the storyline and things get really stupid when we start playing as Connor. Even Altair was a better character than he is, i just wished we would play as Haythem he was such a brilliant character and in the end we would find out he was a templar. Connor's revenge doesn't make sense after he finds out it was Washington who was responsible for burning down his village but still he chases after Charles Lee. Things get interesting when Connor and Haythem makes an alliance the story starts to pick up but all of a sudden it takes a dump when Connor kills his father.
I don't know what to say about Desmond the way it all ended it was so anticlimactic to end the triology , i think the writers were just making it up along as the series progress.

worst fucking ending to a trilogy ever.

Mass Effect 3's original un-extended ending was a million times better than this game's shit.

Fucking Connor's main mission is so misguided, he's been explicitely told that Charles did NOT burn his village (and in turn cause his mothers death), Washington admitted it to Connor's face that he's the one who gave that order.

the entire revenge plot became completely redundant at that point.

Bottomline is AC III was freaking dissapointment in terms of story.

i think the writers were just making it up along as the series progress.
I doubt that, because up until Revelations the series looked like it was headed in one direction and felt like it was thought out to some extent but somewhere between revelations and AC III they just took a 180 and just sort of orgot some o the most important plot points from the previous games. i.e who the hell was this Eve Desmond was supposed to find but but forgot to? They even talked about Lucy in AC III but still kept ingnoring what Junotold them when she died.

I honestly don't know what the hell happened. There are so many things that make no sense at all. So many questions untouched or not answered. For example, what exactly was the method that succeeded? that could save earth from the solar flare. If Minerva wanted the world to perish and start over again, why help then? It makes sense for Juno to do so since she wanted to be free. And how come releasing Juno saves the world? What does she possess that Minerva and that bearded guy does not? what weapon?

Subject 16 says "The sun..... your son", what was that? And what about finding Eve?. I hated how they just killed Desmond away. I was expecting him to play a larger role than to just locate a temple and activate it. Seriously, ubisoft.... what the hell?

^^It's bascially a copy of ME3's ridiculous ending, In ME shepherd goes through an entire trilogy just to end up in the crucible, touch a blue sparky thing and die while aving the universe with space magic, Desmond goes through 5 games to end up in a cave where he touches a blue sparky thingy and dies while the world is saved thanks to space magic. The only difference is that ME3 let you chosse between 3 pretty colours

There are definitely more AC games on the way. Desmond is either dead for good or won't be the main guy in the next.

I read a few discussions on the internet about the ending. Someone pointed out that we could go back to the First Civilization as Shaun points out enthusiastically when you talk to him. I couldn't help but agree on a user's logic and something which I have been leaning towards aswell, what if Templars were the good guys? If you remember, every target you have killed since AC1 to AC3 has spoken a different mindset than what was assumed or told by/to the player. They all sought freedom but under a rule. To have everything under order and control. The Assassins' attempt to save the world did end up getting it enslaved.

^^You were right about one thing though, they would've been better off if Kenway was the main protag and we'd find out at the end that he was a Templar, This revelation and The final scenes with Haytham and Lee were the high points in the story, even though the latter doesn't even make sense but still.

I still don't understand why Haytham was wearing clothes with all the assassins symbols in the beginning if he was a Templar.

also the way Achilles death was handled...when the fuck did he die?

The game just screams cut content.

As shawn theorized, maybe he was an assassin to begin with, and held his blades/clothes etc for sentimental purpose, or just to "blend in".

One of the Devs already confirmed they cut alot of crucial scenes from the game for some reason, hat included scenes about Achilles being a bad Ass or something, His Death Scene probably went out with them.

I bet they're gonna do a "missing sequence" or some shit like that DLC for this as well. There's just too much missing and too much rushed for this to be a conclusive end to the trilogy .. it CAN'T be that bad .. it CAN'T be :(

yeah, I saw an image and the only Assassin symbol was apparently on his hidden blade gauntlets/gloves. Probably passed down his family.

The hilarious part is Ubisoft saying the game was "good enough" for release back in April(?) during an interview but they delayed it too polish it more. Despite that, it's still a buggy and technical mess.

At best they're just going to add to Connor's story. However, Desmond's dead and we probably won't get anything more about the present until the next game or whatever :/

I'm surprised AC3s ending didn't cause as much of a stink among the majority of gamers like ME3s.

OK, so apparently the official guide has an entire speculation segment on the ending, these are some really good details, not all 100% verified by the developers but good read none the less.

Gizmo GoldenHawk

someone on gaf meticulously wrote the entire thing down, pasting it here.

Quote:
what did templars hope to achieve in war of independence?

they had no affection for either side, haytham planted agents on both sides - their goal was to ensure the templars might shape and command the political landscape formed by the upheaval.

haytham's efforts in early sequences to find a piece of eden and exploit its technology (as the templars have done throughout history) was fruitless, but his templar chapter laid the groundwork for their future dominance in a more conventional fashion.

Quote:
why does desmond have a templar ancestor in haytham? why did lucy/cross defect?

haytham was an assassin to a certain age - see hidden blade. people are not born with an affiliation to either the assassin or templar cause - respective ideologies must be taught and embraced over time, and then upheld throughout the lifetime of any given individual.

templars aspire through political machinations and first civ tech to elevate their hierarchy to the status of ruling elite capable of commanding minds of subjects. The rationale behind this varies from one noteworthy order figure to next. Some claim a motivation of compassion (prince ahmet revelations aspired to eliminate all racial, religious, cultural boundaries to foster lasting peace), others are inspired by allure of power (rodrigo borgia and family). Haytham appears to have been seduced by a perceived pragmatism in the order's goals.

assassins and templars alike commit murder for sake of expediency, this cannot be where the philosophical line between the two factions - and therefore connor and haytham - be drawn.

not simply good assassins vs evil templars - true point of contention is free will. though end result and methodology may differ, both factions embrace a common goal: both aspire to protect mankind from itself. It is this, perhaps, the enables the likes of haytham, lucy and daniel cross to revise their affiliation without great compunction.

what might also be appealing for assassins who defect is that, for the templars, victory would be absolute: they only need to win the war, those who envisage the creation of a better world might also hope to live in it. for the brotherhood, each individual battle is fought to ensure that the war has no end.

Quote:
juno

wanted to dominate, betrayed her kind. was killed and thought to be dead by them. actually has been alive in the temple all along, inside vmware parallels virtualbox 3000 computers. this "transcendence tech" is the sixth method of salvation developed by her kind, the sixth sense she was on about before.

juno manipulated events in human history to serve her own ends, guided desmond, subject 16 and connors tribe along multiple paths that converge at the point where desmond lays his hands on the pedestal.

she was trapped inside the temple computer, but able to project herself outside the place through pieces of eden. humans are susceptible to the broadcasts from pieces of eden, so she broadcast herself yo. her influence may spread far beyond desmond's direct lineage - e.g connors tribe was enjoined by juno to protect a "sanctuary" (grand temple) for an intermediate number of years prior to his birth. subject 16 was persuaded to lay down his life for desmond, many others apparently...

stuff she said in previous games warning desmond:
"its hard to stay contained knowing as we do, we wait for you desmond, you will come here, you will activate it, you will only know when it is too late. it is done, the way lies all before you only she remains to be found, awaken the sixth sense."

Quote:
desmond

only his his DNA was important to juno, due to interbreeding between first civ and humans desmond has ended up with a sufficient concentration of precursor genes, as a result people like him can command certain aspects of the 6th sense. the sphere in the temple was some sort of biometric device that desmond could interact with. he was a key of some sort that juno needed to leave - "so we forged a new vessel, one that might endure. it proved easy enough to enter, but to leave, to leave required something more, something wrong."

even though assassins are supposed to preserve free will at all costs, desmond accepted juno's offer so readily because there might be a chance, however slim, to stop juno. his sacrifice means that there will be at least something more to save than bloody and beaten survivors scratching a meager existence in post-apocalyptic ashes. Desmond may "save" humanity by potentially sacrificing the ability of every last man, woman and child to act entirely of their own volition
.

Quote:
h
ow was the world saved from solar flare?
because desmond went along with juno, she held up her end of the bargain. early on in the game she talked about the four towers that they failed to build in time to save her kind, but went onto say "metal might finish what flesh might not".

the towers were successfully built by robocop and wall-e and were kept secret inside the temple. juno sought to keep the temple sealed until the moment of her choosing, had mankind gained entrance beforehand, juno would have lost her bargaining chip: the leverage she uses to make desmond lay down his life.

Quote:
post credits hacking guy?

abstergo technician working to interpret, disassemble and upload the memories of desmond's ancestor connor - and possibly everyone within his lineage to dropbox "the cloud".

desmond's stay at abstergo and lucy's betrayal provided abstergo with a great deal of data on their erstwhile test subject - almost certainly includes full genetic sequencing.

this plot device enables us as players to continue with the events in haytham and connors lives after desmond's death. on the assumption that desmond's "true" performance was 100% sync, we can later use the animus to better align our success with his, or just pick random fights, play checkers and enjoy other recreational pursuits against the backdrop of a birth of a nation.

this could mean the templars now posses the tech to decipher genetic memories and package them in a format anyone can experience - not just direct line ancestors. megaton

Quote:
what does juno want?

one thing certain, juno is revealed to be the true villian of desmond's story arc and will return to cast a broad shadow in the chapters to follow - no matter which protagonist, past or present, occupies the star role.

1. revenge - juno blames humanity for fall and extinction of the first civ. the war between slave and master races precipitated the fall of the latter after the first solar flare. death of her husband aita might be viewed as direct result of that conflict. charges of misanthropy would not be wildly inaccurate

2. rebirth - may have means to transfer her mind to another vessel - flesh or metal. AC3 showed us that she is capable of considering far more variables than those who might seek to oppose her, it is unlikely that she would limit herself to a single and therefore vulnerable point of existence. as a digital being she may have capacity to interact with global communication networks to achieve virtual omniscience. combined such prospective feats and weapons with the first civ tech at her disposal (especially pieces of eden), and minerva's final warning appears almost restrained.

3. restoration - juno utters "what once was shall be again" in conversations with both connor and desmond. she may possess the knowledge and means to resurrect her species. is she alone within the first civ computer where she resides?

Quote:
is desmond really dead?

his body was fried and devoid of a pulse. however, the continued existence of subject 16 - or a simulation thereof - indicates that desmond's digital resurrection is not an impossibility. both the assassins and templars possessed the means to scan, record and store his data during the tumultuous events of 2012, which means that a digital facsimile of desmond could hypothetically play a future role.

based on what we know of the 6th sense (sixth method of salvation employed by the first civ), it could also be speculated that the biometric device he touched in the temple allowed a transfer of consciousness, and that desmond now exists within the temple walls - just as juno did before him for thousands of years.

Quote:
templars and assassins unite against juno?

juno's rise to a position of global dominance, invisible to most means an uneasy alliance isnt an impossibility. we can safely say this would be temporary - as the differences conveyed in the story of connor and haytham demonstrate - not least in its conclusion.

both factions may have served however indirectly and unknowingly to facilitate juno's rebirth. assassin and templar factions have both waxed and waned in terms of power and eminence throughout history. In one reading of her part, juno may have in part orchestrated these almost rhythmic fluctuations, playing one side against the other. Assassins police templars, and in doing so reduce their numbers and becalm their ambitions. Templars in turn are periodically successful in "crusades" that force surviving members of the brotherhood back into the shadows.

in modern day the dominant templar order controls the multinational abstergo corporation which might offer juno vital resources - a head start in a bid for global domination. The diminished brotherhood, operating in small cells below radar provided the means by which juno could transfer desmond to a very particular place and time. After all, if connor's only role was to locate/store amulet, his story might not have ended with the elimination of the templar chapter that sought to locate/exploit the grand temple, but with a simple theft.

Quote:
any other way to intercept the story's conclusion?

all of our speculations and interpretations thus far have been based on the assumption that a devastating solar flare is set to occur on december 21st triggering a mass extinction event on earth - and of course compelling desmond to accept juno's offer. What if there were no such cataclysm? The whole point of the pieces of eden is that they empower the user to adjust the perceptions of others. Might it be the apparent harbingers of the catastrophe (global aurora borealis, electrical storms, seismic activity, et al) are mere illusions, a deception conjured by juno to ensure that desmond "plays his part"?

Closing moments of story clearly indicate effects are felt globally, if this were only a hallucination then juno has the power to influence minds of billions, even before desmond accedes to her wishes. She openly revealed the third research method of salvation involved looking for ways to amplify the suggestive powers of the pieces of eden and "change the consensus". The temple was designed to house all 6 technologies. Though desmond might have the ability to resist an individual apple, how might he - and for the matter mankind, fare against an orchard of such devices?

Desmond himself indirectly provides fuel for fire of this "mass manipulation" interpretation when he explains why he stabbed lucy. In the vision of the future presented by juno, he claims to have witnessed the abstergo satellite launch on schedule during the hours of dec 21st. Why then, did desmond not see any evidence oof the solar flare - and why for that matter would abstergo go ahead with the launch during a period of such unusually heightened solar activity?

Continuing with this alternative interpretation, minervas intervention at the conclusion of the story is, on reflection troubling. If we assume the juno's tapestry of lies is more tightly woven than desmond suspects, then "simulating" the holographic apparition of minerva would not be beyond her power or imagination. When you consider the fact that desmond faces the prospect of an immediate, irrevocable apocalypse, Juno is a banal threat compared to what refusing her wishes would entail. On considering the effect of minervas words, it is almost as if she arrives to exhort "wait! do not help her! she is the lesser evil!" If this is a technique to dispel all last lingering doubts, it is an incredibly clever ploy.

Quote:
who can we expect to stand out in a future installment?

concept of abstergo entertainment division packaging and selling memories through consumer iterations of its animus tech also offers juno (or the templars if operating beyond her control), a possible means to access a wide audience - from simple propaganda and historical revisionism, to implanting secret impulses in the minds of each user. This would almost certainly initiate a new and distinct chapter in the assassins vs templar war.

If juno is to be the primary focus, we may find both assassins and templars engaged in a desperate struggle to develop new weapons to combat her. As we know, Desmond and specific ancestors are defined by their high concentration of first civ DNA, which equips them to more successfully operate the ancient yet powerful devices at juno's disposal. Desmonds daring attack on asbtergo's italian facility makes this apparent. It may be similar individuals will need to be identified, recruited and trained via the animus to stand at the vanguard of the fight.

A shift in focus to the templar side of the war is intriguing aspect. Though assassins have advantage of exclusive intelligence (events witnessed by william, rebecca and shaun in temple), it may be the resources and influence of abstergo could be pivotal in the battle against juno.

So basically a total sh*tfest story. Even these answers can't heal the damage that has been done to the story. Ubisoft have doomed the series now.
