[h=2]This was the most painful teaser ever, Nintendo[/h]

Animal Crossing is officially heading to Nintendo Switch. It’s out in 2019. We’re all freaking out about it, naturally.
But what we’re most losing our cool over is that Nintendo completely trolled us with this reveal. We were first treated to some nice footage of Isabelle, the mayor’s assistant fromAnimal Crossing: New Leaf. She walked around the office, thinking to herself, “What if I was mayor for a while?”
We all cheered for her. “Yes, Isabelle,” we though. “Star in a Nintendo Switch Animal Crossing game where you’re the mayor and we’re your doting lieges!”
But nope. Nope, nope, nope. Right out of our hands, Nintendo tore away our dreams and instead threw Isabelle right into the fray. She’s a fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where we’ll be forced to beat this beautiful poodle into a Teen-rated pulp against our wishes.
But then. But then!
[h=3]BUT THEN.[/h]Nintendo always has a “One more thing!” during its Direct presentations. This one starred Tom Nook, who looked higher resolution than he ever has. He talked about how busy he’d been lately; that’s why he was still at his office so late. He’s been camping, he’s been selling real estate, et cetera. Maybe he just needs to take a break.
Just kidding, again. Tom Nook doesn’t take breaks when there are bells to be made!
And thus: A mainline Animal Crossing is coming to Nintendo Switch, 2019.
Thank you, Nintendo.

wouldn't it be better to make one giant Nintendo Direct thread and put all the news there ?

I don't think this website has a robust Nintendo following :p

[h=1]The biggest announcements from the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct[/h]

So much customization!

Image

Nintendo aired a new Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct presentation today, featuring new information about the game, including what it’s like to start out on a new island and what you can do.
It was chock-full of new features for the game, so here’s some of the biggest announcements from the stream:
[h=2]CHOOSE YOUR ISLAND LAYOUT AND YOUR HEMISPHERE[/h]You’ll be able to choose from four island options to find your desired layout, meaning you won’t have to start completely over to get a layout you like. You can also select what hemisphere you want your island to be in, so it’ll experience different seasons during different times of the year.
[h=2]PLACE WHERE YOUR VILLAGERS’ HOMES WILL GO[/h]New villagers will no longer just plop their homes down wherever, ruining your landscaping. You’ll decide where they go yourself. You can even place a spot for a future resident before they move in.

Image: Nintendo[h=2]UP TO 8 PEOPLE CAN BE ON ONE ISLAND VIA MULTIPLAYER[/h]You’ll be able to visit other islands using a service called Dodo Airlines at the airport, with up to eight people being able to play together at once. You can also have up to eight residents on one island, playing on one copy of the game, though only four can play on local multiplayer at once.

[h=2]COMPLETE ACHIEVEMENTS TO EARN NOOK MILES[/h]Nook Miles can be used to buy items or to pay off some of your dreadful loan. After all, going on a fancy vacation isn’t free. Achievements will have you catching fish or bugs.

Image: Nintendo EPD/Nintendo[h=2]A RESCUE SERVICE WILL TAKE YOU HOME IF YOU GET LOST ON YOUR ISLAND[/h]If you get caught in a tough place while decorating, or maybe you’re just too lazy to walk back to your house, you can call a rescue service. Though the rescue operator wasn’t named, their tone of voice and the music playing implied that it was ... Mr. Resetti with a new job.
[h=2]ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW LEAF AND HAPPY HOME DESIGNER DESIGNS WILL BE IMPORTABLE[/h]Using the Nintendo Switch app, players can read the QR codes from old games’ designs and import them to New Horizons. If you had a jacket design you really liked in the old game, you won’t have to remake it!

[h=2]DECORATE YOUR HOMES FROM AN OVERHEAD VIEW[/h]Just like in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, you won’t have to stand around where you want to place furniture. You’ll be able to decorate freely without your character in the way.

Image: Nintendo[h=2]YOU’LL BE ABLE TO TERRAFORM YOUR ENTIRE ISLAND[/h]After receiving a permit, you can not only make paths, but extend or remove rivers, and even out some of the land. This cranks up the island customization to 11 in this game, as you can truly make your island into whatever you want.

[h=1]How to poop in Animal Crossing: New Horizons[/h]

Release the fruit

Animal Crossing is an idealized form of life, with zero-interest mortgages and money that grows on trees, where I have a core group of thoughtful friends and can become a master craftsman in furniture building just because someone left a note in a bottle on the beach. Also, in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can poop. So satisfying!
Pooping has a benefit in the new Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch. It drains your fruit buff almost instantly, which is important. If you eat some fruit, you’ll get a buff that makes your villager extra strong — and if you whack a boulder with your shovel while all buffed up, you can shatter that rock, depriving yourself of valuable resources like iron nuggets.
So how do you poop in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? Sit on a toilet, of course.

Image: Nintendo via PolygonIt doesn’t even need to be your toilet (which, honestly though, that’s questionable bathroom etiquette). You can take care of your business on the commode of another villager. Just sit, let that fruit fiber work its gastrointestinal magic and your villager will announce, “And that takes care of that!” You don’t even need to remove any clothing, so your waste disposal process is discrete and speedy. Hell, you don’t even need any TP ... but it’s probably a good reminder to wash your hands in real life.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch. It’s a much-needed escape from everything and arrived just in time.

[h=1]Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now a horror game, thanks to fans[/h]

Blood, murder, and sinister rituals

Animal Crossing: New Horizons might appear to be a cutesy title about having a good time, but really, the game can have whatever feel you want depending on your aesthetic. Some folks are making chic rooms that would score plenty of points with the Happy Home Academy. Others, meanwhile, are making their islands feel like something straight out of a horror movie.
Perhaps this shouldn’t be a surprise. When The Villager was announced for Smash Bros. Ultimate, folks noted that the character’s blank, creepy stare made him perfect for the roster — especially because he carries an axe. And of course, making scary themed rooms has a long lineage, appearing across games like New Leaf and Happy Home Designer. It just so happens that New Horizons gives people updated graphics, new tools, and a better photo mode to show off their devilish creations.
One of the most common trends is pretending that your character is an axe murderer:

Another thing folks like to do is make blood spatter patterns, which can be used to line the walls and floors ... or can be used to cover your face and clothes, if you want to make it look like you got away with something.

Granted, patterns can more generally be used to make spooky clothes and prints, as the players below have.

Other darkly creative types are making ominous symbols around their islands, or setting up patterns that set up a disturbing scene:

For some island residents, it’s all about adding disturbing ambiance to the town:

Many villagers are taking the time to set up elaborate themed rooms that tell a grotesque, gory, or sinister story.

There’s even cute horror in this game!

Some things that folks aren’t sharing definitely isn’t real, but it doesn’t matter — it’s still fun to pretend that a happy-go-lucky game is hiding something much darker beneath the surface. Even if it’s just for social media.

[h=1]Animal Crossing: New Horizons Beats Pokemon & Smash Bros Switch Sales Records[/h]

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch data indicate the game surpasses both Pokemon Sword & Shield and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in first week sales.

  • The release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons has far surpassed anyone's expectations for the title, as new data on its first week of sales indicates that the game has beaten both Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pokemon Sword & Shield in Japanese first week sales by a significant margin. Previously, the best selling Nintendo Switch game in its first week had been the combination of Pokemon Sword & Shield, which hit roughly 1.35 million units moved in Japan and quickly became the current generation console's best performer in early sales.
The launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been one colored by a dedicated fan base that generated a huge amount of hype for the title before it released, inevitably helping move units as more people began discussing the game and its colorful cast of characters prior to March 20. When the game finally did release - the first new title for the series in quite some time, not counting the mobile Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp - Animal Crossing: New Horizons reviewed incredibly well among critics and fans, pushing even more people to try out the unique, genre-bending experience. Now, it's been basically all anyone has talked about on gaming social media, with even the release of Half-Life: Alyx dulled somewhat by the fervor surrounding paying off debts to Tom Nook and creating the best islands possible.

As it turns out, the feeling that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been ubiquitous around the globe is one that is likely founded on some truth, as emerging data has indicated the game will be the best-selling Nintendo Switch game of all-time - at least when it comes to its first week of sales, anyways. While Nintendo hasn't released official data itself, news from Famitsu has indicated that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has moved an incredible 1.8m physical units in Japan alone, making it the best first week for a Switch game ever. That beats Pokemon Sword & Shield's previous best of 1.364 million and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 1.238 million, and has incidentally increased Switch sales immensely as well, helping move close to 400,000 units in the same week as Animal Crossing: New Horizons' first availability window.

It's rarefied air for Animal Crossing: New Horizons sales, then, as the title has far outstripped expectations for what some analysts believed to be a niche AAA offering that threatened to make Nintendo's 2020 a little slower than its previous years. That couldn't have been less accurate, at least in the early going, though it's interesting to consider just how much the coronavirus outbreak influenced Animal Crossing: New Horizons' sales performance. Obviously, the game is incredible in its own right, with a slew of perfect scores and high praise even from those who didn't feel it was perfect - including Screen Rant's own Animal Crossing: New Horizons review. Still, with so many people at home and looking for a cheery escape from a bleak news cycle surrounding the pandemic, it's possible Animal Crossing: New Horizonscame at the best time possible for both the title's own success and for the millions of people who needed it for stress relief.
Either way, Animal Crossing: New Horizons sales have been incredible thus far, and it's possible that word of mouth and increased visibility from reports like this one could inflate those numbers even more. It's also another addition into the long line of Nintendo Switch exclusives that make the console a must-own based on its mind-boggling library alone. With both PS5 and Xbox Series X on the horizon, it's easy to overlook the Nintendo Switch - but to do so would be a mistake, especially for its competitors.

[h=1]Animal Crossing fans are torturing villagers to get them to move out[/h]

That’s what they get for ... being ugly?

You get 10 residents on your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island, so chances are pretty good that you won’t jive with all of them. Most of us will suck this up and bide our time until, hopefully, our disliked character leaves. Then there are the players who are, shall we say, getting a little more creative about their hatred.
Before I continue I need to make clear that my hands are not clean in this regard. I have, in the past, tried to move heaven and earth to destroy my mortal Animal Crossing enemy, Gwen the penguin. But my methods pale in comparison to some of what I’ve seen folks do in New Horizons.
On social media, and especially on TikTok, some fed-up fans are sharing videos and screenshots of them harassing their villagers, often in an attempt to compel them to move out. Some folks believe that smacking their residents with a net, pushing them endlessly, or not talking to them at all will motivate that islander to leave, though these tactics don’t actually work. Complaining to Isabelle about a villager also won’t move characters out, it’ll simply reset them.
Some folks must realize this, but it isn’t stopping them from doing all sorts of things to their villagers. Characters get ganged up on; they’ll get trapped; angry signs plead for their departure; moats will be erected. My favorite horrible idea is to put a gong outside of someone’s house and bang it endlessly to annoy the denizen. Some will even send their New Horizons rivals angry letters, urging them to get lost.

The reasons vary — sometimes it’s as simple as thinking a character is ugly or weird. Other times, players dislike a villager’s personality, or the way that character interacts with other residents. Fair enough!

Perhaps the most outstanding example of villager torture I’ve seen comes via my pal Nea, who has spent over a week trying to rid herself of “incel Hamtaro” in increasingly elaborate ways, all to no avail.

It may not be working, but it sure is hilarious to watch unfold.
So, what can you do to get an undesirable out of your perfect utopia? The only thing I've seen work is when you have a full island, get a camper, convince them to move in, and then give them a suggestion for who they should swap with. But you may not have the right conditions to make this happen, and the folks they’ll suggest swapping with may not be the specific characters you’re looking to get rid of. You also need amiibo cards to make this happen, as you can read in our guide here. Adopting a friend’s villager that’s been forced out this way, meanwhile, may result in a big glitch.
Basically, if you dislike a villager, you might just have to ride it out. But for some, that won’t be nearly as fun as making their villagers life a living hell.

As if I make OTs for every Playstation exclusive. Heck, I've made them for some multiplatform titles as well.

I did do an OT for Breath of the Wild. Mostly do them for story-driven single-player games, which Animal Crossing is not. Doesn't mean I don't like it

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold more than 10,000,000 digital units

It isn’t often that Famitsu shares worldwide sales numbers for something, let alone digital sales numbers, but this is an exception. Famitsu is reporting that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has surpassed 10,000,000 units via the Nintendo Switch eShop. It was not stated what the exact number is.
Holy wow!!

No OT.
No hype.

But looks like it'll end up being in my top 5 "games of the year".

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting Super Mario-themed furniture

It’s a-me, Mario — on an Animal Crossing island!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - at a workbench

Super Mario-themed furniture will be added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo announced during a surprise Nintendo Direct on Thursday. Unfortunately, it’s not coming soon — those interested in Mario-ing up their island digs will need to wait until March 2021.

Until then, you’ll just have to play pretend with your own custom created clothing or patterns.

Details are slim. There’s basically nothing to go off of other than that the furniture items are coming next year. However, this won’t be the first time we’ve seen Super Mario-themed items in the Animal Crossing franchise — it’s been a tradition since the original Animal Crossing, appearing in all games since then, including Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. In years past, Nintendo ran a MAR10 day event where players could collect the crossover items in the mobile game. We can probably expect something similar with March 10 — MAR10 day — rolls around in 2021.

Nintendo’s surprise Direct is a celebration of Super Mario Bros.’ 35th anniversary. A bunch of new, exciting announcements were made: Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario Bros. 35, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, and Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros.

Animal Crossing amiibo cards are coming back

Collect ‘em all

Three amiibo cards for Animal Crossing.

The easiest way to get an Animal Crossing: New Horizons villager to move into your town is to have its amiibo card, except that for the longest time, finding these digital cards in the U.S. at a reasonable price was impossible. After all, most of the cards that were in circulation were released during the Animal Crossing: New Leaf period. Fortunately, Nintendo is bringing those older amiibo cards back.

Starting in November, Amiibo cards series 1-4 can be purchased at retailers for $5.99 per pack. The cards are random and come in packs of six. For reference, getting a single bootleg amiibo coin on places like Etsy can cost around $10, while older legit packs on eBay could go for two-to-four times the retail price. Many people opted to simply make their own fake amiibo cards, but the price of the raw materials went up due to high demand as well. So, assuming Nintendo prints enough cards this time, the amiibo card market should get considerably cheaper and more stable than before, especially now that the New Horizons fervor has died down a bit.

Series 1-4 includes a wide variety of characters, like Isabelle and Tom Nook, along with villagers, and even some characters who aren’t currently available in New Horizons. You can take a look at the full list here. Earlier this year, Nintendo printed another batch of amiibo cards for Japan.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons-themed Nintendo Switch is on sale again

There’s no telling how long this console will stick around

Photo of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch hardware in its dock

Nintendo is bringing back its Animal Crossing: New Horizons Edition Switch for the holiday season. The company announced the return of the pastel green and blue Joy-con controllers on Twitter on Friday morning, after it shared information about the game’s new fall update.

According to Nintendo, the Switch should be coming back into stock at local retailers soon. However, the only site we can find with the Switch at the correct $299.99 price at the time of writing is GameStop. (The GameStop website, however, is struggling under heavy traffic due to the PlayStation 5 pre-order period. You’ll likely be redirected to a PlayStation 5 pre-order waiting screen. This doesn’t mean you’re actually in line for a PS5. Rather, it’s just the default landing page for GameStop at the moment. Give the site a couple of minutes and you’ll get redirected back to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch.)

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch was first released back in March when the game came out, but has been largely unavailable since then. The Animal Crossing Switch comes with unique green and blue pastel-colored Joy-cons and a special Animal Crossing-inspired dock. One thing the Switch doesn’t come with is the actual Animal Crossing: New Horizons game, so if you want to play it on your new Switch you’ll need to get that separately.

While Nintendo is putting this specially designed Switch out for now, there’s no telling how long it will be in stock. The first version went pretty quickly, so you may have to pick this console up quickly before they’re all sold out again.

Animal Crossing players are already prepped for the pumpkin patch

Autumn in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is just days away

An Animal Crossing human watching a pumpkin patch

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are saying goodbye to their community swimming pools and cliffside diving spots. That’s because Nintendo is updating New Horizons on Sept. 30 with an autumn- and Halloween-themed patch, bringing a host of new, seasonal activities to the game.

Players have been eager for new content, growing tired of diving for pearls and oysters. So they’ve taken to clearing out space on their islands, creating seasonally appropriate areas to make immediate use of the game’s new features. For many players, that means converting former summer fun spaces to pumpkin patches. Though a bunch of fall-themed decorations — and the pumpkins themselves! — have yet to come to the game, players are making do with what they have: creating pumpkin signage and existing items in creative ways.

For some, this means a massive island overhaul. But for others, it’s finding a quiet, small spot tucked away between some trees.

One of my personal favorite innovations is how cleverly players are using random items, like hats on hat stands, to mimic the look of pumpkins. It’s an ingenious way to design a farm — and players have been using tricks like this for a while now, even before pumpkins were announced for New Horizons.

As for the Halloween lovers playing New Horizons, they’ve always been ready. Players have been using similar methods — like the hat on hat stand pumpkins — to create horror settings in New Horizons since the game was first released earlier this year. Horror lovers didn’t need a reason to splatter blood all over their islands — for them, New Horizons was always a horror game. Using items supplied by Nintendo, YouTube creator Evil Imp even created a horror movie trailer that’s seriously unsettling.
With New Horizons’ Sept. 30 update, Nintendo is adding new undead skin tones and Halloween costumes, which should certainly help up the creep factor. My suggestion? Bring back Zipper if you really want to scare people.
