Star Wars: Hunter is a free=to-play game full of Jedi, stormtroopers, and Wookies

A new Star Wars multiplayer arena game is coming to Nintendo Switch. Star Wars: Hunters was revealed during the February Nintendo Direct stream, and will be free to play when it releases sometime later this year.

Nintendo’s announcement trailer didn’t reveal much about the game other than its name. The trailer seems to be take place on a sandy planet — possibly Tatooine? — in what appeared to be a hidden-away arena designed for some kind of illicit deals or fighting. As the camera tracks through the hallway we get glimpses of a character holding lightsabers, a stormtrooper, and a Wookie. Finally, the camera stops on a giant door which opens to reveal a smoky battlefield full of lightsabers and laser fire.

According to the announcement trailer’s YouTube description, Star Wars: Hunters will be a free-to-play squad-based arena combat game — which is probably what we saw at the end of the trailer. Based on the logo at the end of the trailer, the game appears to be developed by Zynga, the developer best known for social games like Farmville.

Star Wars: Hunters doesn’t have a firm release date yet, but is scheduled to come out sometime later this year, so we should get some more information in the near future. According to the game’s website, it will also be coming to iOS and Android alongside Switch.
