Salaam
I just received a negative trade score from a customer for a motherboard I sold him about a month ago. The deal went through like this:
1. Through texts, the price was negotiated and deal was finalized (price was done separately from shipping and I mentioned that it will be Rs. 400-500 extra for shipping, keeping in view that he was from another city) + I told him that I will provide 3-day checking warranty as well.
2. Later he said that he will send a person to my home directly who will do a hand to hand deal with me. I agreed.
3. The person came, met with my brother (I was out of home at that time). The person checked the board himself which was brandnew. The box was not sealed but the board was covered in plastic bag. My brother opened the box and gave him the motherboard to check. He checked it, and then made a call to the original buyer who again through phone instructed him to check the board thoroughly. After which, he paid and left with the motherboard. So this was basically a hand-to-hand deal.
4. Later in the day, the original buyer gave me a call and asked for checking warranty. I was hesitant as the deal was done hand to hand but still I agreed to provide checking warranty of 3 days from the day of purchase (as the motherboard was checked only physically and not functionally in a PC). The deal was done a few days before weekend and the original buyer requested to give him extended warranty as the board will be shipped to him on weekend so I extended the warranty for a few more days. This was all after the deal was done hand to hand.
5. After a few days (within the supposed warranty period), I got a text from the original buyer that the board has bent processor socket pins. I assumed he have observed it right after opening the board and before installing the processor, so I said that this might have happened in the shipping (which was not done by me and even if I had shipped it, it was not my (infact any seller) responsibility if the item is damaged (physically) during shipping.
Then, his brother called and said this "I took out motherboard, installed it in the PC, opened the processor socket and installed the processor. I tried to run the PC but it did not give display. I then took the processor out and observed that the processor socket pins were bent".
There are numerous occasions on internet where people have accidentally done this when trying to inappropriately install the processor. I told him this but he kept on saying that he has not done anything wrong and he is not a child and an experienced user.
If he was not a child and the pins were bent before the processor was installed then how could an experience user miss the bent pins before installing the processor?
I have been a very old member of this community and I will not risk my reputation for a mere 8-9k rupees. I would have returned that amount right away (even if I was right) but then the person (the buyer friend) who had done the deal with my brother hand to hand came to my house and threatened my brother. And that was not acceptable.
