    Well i installed steam, reinstalled the game, and it worked at least. Lowered resolution, lowered all settings, played for around 15 mins with visuals of 1990s, then game crashed and im looking forward not to play it for now. So how much should i budget for a decent built?

    when there is no network available, thats also when there is a cross sign. Did you check device manager if the drivers are correctly installed for the wifi adapter? although windows 7 and windows 8 drivers should be same, but try downloading the windows 8 driver for your laptop's wireless adapter.

    Is wifi showing its ON? Check Device Manager and see if there is any error for the wifi adapter (under Network Adapters).
