  • Now that didn't ever happened with me? :\

I think you are trying to apply Shadow/Highlights before HDR Toning. Invert the process and tell if it is fine then
    Ok here's how it goes
    1. Open you Image. Go to Image->Duplicate
    2. Go to your Duplicated Image and go to Image->Adjustments--> HDR Toning. Leaving aside the first two mess with all other setting. Try increasing Details and Decreasing Highlights. It doesn't matter if it looks a little bad as it will be fixed in the end(Keep the settings a lil high then the perfection)
    3. Image-->Adjustments--> Shadow/Highlights Mess around with it if it looks good press ok otherwise cancel
    4. While Holding shift and Left Clicking drag your Edited Image over to your orignal Image.
    5. Lower Down it's opacity to where it looks suitable probably between 50-75%.
    6. Try different Blend Modes
    7. Add a Border if you want and there you are done!
If you are using CS 5 then I can pretty much explain you everything. Pretty Simple if you ask me
That is some real big flood .

    May Allah be with you!

Your daily routine must be effected
