[h=1]Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a new Cyberpunk 2077 anime from Studio Trigger[/h]

The anime features new characters and new stories

CD Projekt Red previewed new Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay in its Night City Wire livestream on Thursday, and also made a surprise announcement. In partnership with Netflix and Studio Trigger, CD Projekt Red will produce a new anime based on the Cyberpunk universe called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. While taking place in the same universe as the game, the series will feature new characters and and a new story.
The teaser trailer didn’t show any of the series’ animation, but the story will focus on a street kid trying to survive in the future city, according to a news release. Over the 10-episode story, he will become an Edgerunner — an outlaw mercenary.
Fans know Studio Trigger for anime like Kill La Kill, Promare, Darling and the Franxx, andLittle Witch Academia. Hiroyuki Imaishi of Kill La Kill and Promare will direct the series, alongside assistant director Masahiko Otsuka and creative director Hiromi Wakabayashi.Akira Yamaoka, of Silent Hill fame, will score the series.
“I’ve always loved cyberpunk as a genre, but always found it difficult to create as an original work,” said Imaishi. “This is why I’m very excited to be working with CD Projekt Red on this project. It won’t be easy to please both game and anime fans, but I love a challenge.”
The first season is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in 2022.

Although I like the fact that they have released the footage to the masses. But giving access just to some journalists to create a positive buzz is little uncharacteristic of this studio. And it is mostly used by studios to gain favours.

Instead of doing this, they should have released this code to public like a demo of sorts. It is not something new and would have been a much transparent look at the current situation of this project.

I'm no fan of CDPR or this game, but you make it sound like holding a preview event is some shady practice. When you say "giving access just to some journalists", which media outlet do you feel got left out? And public demos in the AAA domain are extremely rare. CDPR didn't release one for Witcher 3, so how is it uncharacteristic of them to do the same in the case of CP2077?

I'm still having a hard time digesting everything. There is so much detail every where you look its mind boggling. The city looks so atmospheric, dynamic and full of diverse activities. It feels like an immersive sim on a magnitude that simply hasn't even been attempted before. The truly unique and fresh cyberpunk aesthetic and mission design on top of all that really puts it in a league of its own.

The pacifist run will just have to wait. The gunplay looks rock solid to me. The hand guns in the car chase shootout gave me strong Destiny 2 vibes. The bar shootout was like that crazy Typhoon gun from Crysis 3. Then there's mantis blades, katanas, nanowire, a melee system. We haven't even gotten a proper look at the verticality yet. This is some next level ambitious stuff.

My only concern is the QA. Bugs can never be truly eliminated, only minimized. The complexity of the systems in this game must be a nightmare for the QA teams. I hope by launch they have most of the stuff ironed out. Witcher 3 had its fair share of bugs but less so on PC based on my own experience. If they can reach that, I'd be satisfied with the results. If they feel the need to delay it further, I wouldn't hold that against them. What they have shown today instills enough confidence that the game is shaping up to be pretty special.

Can't wait for episode 2.

Game is already delayed for more than 6 months, it was best to just release a playanle demo.

Capcom released betas for Resi 2 and 3. Square did it for Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Dice used to do it for Battlefield games.

I am pretty tired of game journalists these days. Not trustable in any way.

As I was saying to Chandoo and CT the other day. The reason why they have gone for delay and this style of showcasing the game is External QA and Localization bandwidth due to Corona situation. AAA relies on massive external partners i.e (https://www.keywordsstudios.com/, http://usspeaking.com/, etc for this service.
Which are NEEDED and MANDATORY to meet Console Certifications. Xbox and Sony have a whole list of certifications you have to go through and their QA plays the game asswell, and if they find those bugs for you, your game is rejected. This needs to happen 3 months before the launch. You can reapply for it again, but its not a cheap process. (cant reveal the details as I think its different for different studios and style of games)

And alot of these QA and Loc services cant give people the game to work from home due to "leaks" / and a number of people working on it are not super highly paid. Some of the biggest service providers are based in countries that went hard on shutting down.

All they are probably doing at this moment is squashing bugs. There is nothing nefarious behind releasing it in this manner, except for Covid. They know exactly how to break the game, and giving it in journalists hands when not enough QA passes and smoke tests have been done would've given people alot of doubt regarding technical capability.

Also they want people, who have been saving up to buy this game or were very interested in buying the game, to hold on just a bit longer. So its a carrot and stick kinda deal.

I was expecting some more gameplay footage but honestly, at this point, I dont think anything can change my perspective for this game. This is a DAY 1 for me.

All I want now is a launch day patch for the next gen console upgrade for this game.

The Digital Foundry video is much better than anything in CPDR's stream yesterday. A lot of new gameplay and technical details that one can appreciate. I liked the lightening in general but tbh, I would like to see a console footage of the game to see where it stands wrt other open world games given hardware restrictions.

Also, Judy's character model and animations are brilliant.

This is the best thing about Cyberpunk all week, at least the anime seems like it won't be as derivative and cliched as the actual game looks right now.
