Hisense 55U7A review, 55" 4K HDR 120Hz for 84K, is it worth it?

My only gripe right now is the firmware. It's about time they released a firmware update for the Pakistan region. We are still stuck at april 2018 version whereas UK and other regions are getting new firmware literally every month. Their reps have no clue when an update would be available. AFAIK the Plex app for example can't stream 4K videos from PLEX server without transcoding on the factory firmware for PK region.

I made a complaint on their UAN number about PTCL Smart TV app not available on their VEWD app store and about Firmware updates, got multiple call backs, each time a person higher than earlier inquiring about my complaint and promising that they will convey this to the top but this was back in December 2018. The problem is that TriAngels which is the company that is importing, assembling and selling Hisense in Pakistan, needs to push Hisense for these Firmwares and additions and think about usage of the TVs in Pakistani market.

Lol, porting PTCL app (which already sucks on Android) to VidaaU OS is improbable thinking bro. I'd be happy and contented with tweaks and bug fixes to existing apps via firmware updates.

Whats the response rate of it while gamings?
Quoted from AVForums' review:

"Input Lag
The H55U7A has a games mode switch in the picture presets that should be switched on to get the lowest lag time possible. Input lag was 31ms in both SDR and HDR varieties and gaming on the Hisense U7A was good fun with an HDR image that was consistent and bright enough throughout, with no dimming over time. "

I have my gaming PC connected to this and mainly game on the TV, in my own experience, numbers aside, there isn't any noticeable input lag, I play CS GO, Overwatch, PUBG etc which are all competitive online multiplayer games and I play at 1080p @ 120Hz with Game Mode ON. Right now I'm into Gears 5 multiplayer which I play at 4K@60, just coz it looks so beautiful at 4K :)

Salam Alikum brother, glad to know you have great experience with hisense. I'm also considering hisense but since this model is not available anymore and hisense only have 1 more model that comes in 65 inch, so I am considering Hisense A6100 65 inch. Mostly good reviews but I read couple of reviews that they are not best for movies specifically when their is fast paced shots and get blurry/pixelated.

Can you please confirm if you noticed this issue?

Also your input on hisense A6100? Should I get Hisense? Do you recommend? Main goal is just movies, Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Many Thanks

When I bought mine last year, a6100 was also available along with the U7A, the price difference was about 15k. AFAIK, the panel on A6100 was inferior and lacking WCG or 120Hz. You should call their UAN and inquire about future availability chances on the U7A. With such a small price difference I don't recommend a6100 unless they have discontinued U7A. As for fast motion problem, it happens with any brand tv when motion-smoothing is used. I have ultra smooth motion turned OFF for movies.

Yes, I checked with Hisense UAN support, they said it's out of stock and have no idea when/IF it will be in stock or not.
I even asked if they've any idea on the upcoming models so I could wait if I know what's coming next, but they said at this stage they've no idea what/when the new models will be released.

BTW as for price, Hisense A6100 65 inch model is 130K, while so far I checked price of 65 inch U7A online, its easily around 175-190K, which is a big difference.
I even called several of the Hisense sellers (got phone numbers from Hisense Pakistan website) but none of them had U7A available in stock, and the price of 65 inch A6100 was between 130K to 145K.

Is 120Hz Native on U7A 4K? Or is it only for 1080p 120Hz?

So there is that.

4k@120 would be too much data for HDMI 2.0. So its 1080@120. Prices have gone up, so seems like a6100 is your realistic choice now unless you wanna wait for new models and promotions. You might also wanna check P8S from TCL.

I was considering TCL P8S, it looked nice but I read a lot of bad reviews about TCL product quality.
And TCL is literally putting a lot of fake positive reviews on their FB page and that alone is a good enough reason for me to stay away from TCL, bcoz I don't want to buy from liars.

I can consider A6100, but IDK, it kind of feels like its saying out loud, "I'M JUST AN ENTRY LEVEL 4K TV". lol
I think U7A looked bit more premium than this I guess?
But honestly its super frustrating how backward we're when in comes to tech.

Big brand prices are almost 2X-3X than what they sell for in the USA, as if Pakistanis are richer than Americans????? like WTH.

Anyways, I'll visit a display center and check the quality of A6100 myself.

Quality is about same with every brand these days. It shouldn't be any worse than Hisense at least. The p8s seems to be a superior tv on paper. The design has the wow factor. I'd choose it over A6100 anyday. You just need to be lucky with panel lottery. Good luck.

I was actually able to find U7A on a store. They said it will probably be back in stock everywhere in a month or two. Is there any calibration/settings required?

My brother-in-law (BIL) wanted to buy a 55" so he took me with him to the market, sadly the prices have increased coz of increase in dollar but we still get the same models from 1.5 years ago. We saw 4 models; Samsung 55NU7100, Hisense 55U7A, Hisense 55A6100, TCL 55P6US. My father knew the shop owner so he said he will give us at wholesale rate, without any profit, don't know if it's true, I think he still made some money from us but these are the prices that he gave us. Prices are as of 15-10-19, the day we went to market.

Samsung 55NU7100 retail 122K last price 115K

Hisense 55U7A retail 108K last price 91K

Hisense 55A6100 retail 94.9K last price 79.9K

TCL 55P6US retail 94.9K last price 71K

My BIL asked me what he should buy, since he is the one spending the money and then using the TV, I requested the shop owner to re-arrange the tvs little so we can see them side by side with same display source input, which he did. He didn't have the U7A on display, only a packed piece, but we still got to see 3 TVs side by side. I checked picture quality settings on all TVs on same settings, but we quickly realised that the A6100 & P6US were trash in picture quality compared to NU7100. It was a shame that we couldn't see U7A coz I know it is better tahn NU7100 when I saw it 1.5 years ago when I bought my TV but BIL had decided that he wanted to buy Samsung 55NU7100, which we did and he is extremely happy with it. I asked him that there is a Rs44,000 of price difference between NU7100 & P6US, do you think the difference in picture quality is 44K worth and he said yes.

So I tell you the same my friend, it's your money, audition all the TVs and buy which you like the best

Hisense U7A was avaialable in 55" and 65" in Islamabad last week when I was in market.

U7A is very bright in SDR and bright enough for its price for HDR, if you tweak it a little then it becomes really good in HDR as well (see my picture settings)

Yes, the picture get blurry/pixelated during fast paced shots if you keep default settings. Ironically enough, the Ultra Smooth Motion, Judder Reduction, Blur Reduction and Sharpness processing insreases blur/pixelation. Turn "Sharpness" to Zero and Turn ON "Game Mode" which will turn off Ultra Smooth Motion, Judder & Blur Reduction.

IMHO I didn't like A6100 much, consider A6100 only if you want to save money, and if you want to save money then save all the way and look for the cheapest 65" that you can find and audition it with A6100 side by side and buy the one you like more.

Salam Alikum brother,

I'll reply on your overall message soon but just to let you know I was able to find & purchase Hisense U7A 65 inch in Hisense official outlet in Lahore last week, but the prices you quoted got me concerned a bit. The salesman quoted Hisense 55 U7A price to be 108K but said last price will be 102K. While you mentioned your shopkeeper quoted last price as 91K for 55 inch variant. So I'm a little concerned if I overpaid for the 65 inch variant.

Any chance you can confirm the last price for a Hisense 65 inch U7A for me?

Also from where did you purchased?

Many thanks

I think if your BIL had seen U7A as well on the display to compare with other 3 TVs, he would have picked U7A bcoz it's picture quality is no less than Samsung and the fact that hisense gives a 2 years panel warranty as well is well worth it in addition to the much lesser price point. But great that he loved Samsung so far. Although I do think for a 55 inch it's pricy, specially bcoz it's last year model. But Samsung will definitely be expensive bcoz they are the leading brand in TVs.

Where can I see best settings for best quality on U7A? So far I mostly watched 1080p on my U7A and it looks pretty good. I will be trying some more 4K content soon that is not just demos.

Hisense Lahore outlet quoted 185K for U7A 65 inch and then gaveaa 10K discount, so I bought it at 175k. They also gave free wall mount and free delivery.

U7A 55 was also available, retail price they quoted was 109K and last price they gave was 102K. But considering that they offered you 91K price for U7A 55 inch got me worried that I paid extra for my 65 inch U7A.

Another thing bothering me is that a6100 65 inch last price on Carrefour last week was 129K, while I paid 45K extra for the U7A, the difference kind of feels a lot now. I know U7A is superior tech when compared with a6100, specially when I compared both side by side in the store for picture quality but still 45K does sound a lot specially a 65 inch of TCL is around 150K for P8S and around 170K for C6.

If there is any chance you can check from the shop from where you bought yours for the price of U7A 65 inch last price, that would be great. Thanks

Walaikum-assalam brother,

Congratulations on your purchase, Allah mubarik karay aap ko ye TV, you will love U7A. We bought the NU7100 from Umar Electronics, Blue Area, Islamabad. They have branches in PWD, Gul Noor Market Murree Road and near DHA II Gate 2 that I know of, they maight have more. Look man, when I bought my TV last year, I paid 84K for this TV on Daraz and it was a little lower than this a week earlier, I would say don't have regrets, it will spoil your fun with your new TV. If you can return it and buy at a lower price then you can think about it, if you can't do anything about it then just enjoy your TV.

65" is already a non-mainstream size in Pakistan and that's why companies demand a hefty premium from the people that are looking at such premium TVs. At a 108K retail for 55", you have to pay over 77K to get extra 10", coz 65" retails at 185K. I will ask the owner about last price of 65U7A and let you know. Regarding A6100, it is no match for U7A, compared side by side there is a huge difference in PQ, U7A has a great panel with higher nits which translates to brilliance and vibrancy that the lower ened TVs try to compensate with over exposure and faded picture. I have a samsung QLED as well which I bought for 300K but my U7A, while doesn't get as bright as a QLED in HDR, it still does a great job for less than 1/3rd the price.

You are correct, U7A is much better than NU7100 in picture quality, peak brightness, max nits, diming zone etc. I gave BIL my opinion but didn't wanna force him, in the end he is happy and I'm happy that he is happy with his purchase.

You can find the my picture settings at the end of my review on first page.

Thanks a lot brother for the best regards. I agree, I shouldn't regret it now. I actually jumped right at this price bcoz I had called a few local shops including some mentioned on Hisense official website as authorized sellers and none of them had U7A in stock including hisense outlets itself but when I called their sales offices, I managed to find it in Lahore outlets so thought I should just get it instead of losing it, but really I think even if it was available rarely on some shops, that don't necessarily mean they would have been selling at the lowest prices possible. I should have visited a few shops for sure in person before buying it from hisense outlet and I must have bargain further instead of being happy about the 10K discount they offered. I'm pretty sure they could have reduced it to further 170K at least coz that is the price I found on some bank websites that are offering U7A like on silkbank and Meezan bank to their customers. But then I'm almost positive that they would have charged me for the shipping as well as for the wall mount, including this would still make it roughly around 173k or 174k lol. So no regrets.

Thanks for the settings, I will give it a try with 4K HDR.
By the way out of the box Cinema mode kind of looks lack luster. So far I have been using Dynamic mode.

Btw bro I noticed one issue so far that quite often the TV shows that network is not setup and I have to add Wi-Fi password again to connect the TV with the Wi-Fi.

Did you noticed same issue ever? Also any idea if they offer any firmware updates that I can update to in order to get this issue fixed?

Thanks
