STEAM GIFTING CHANGES

Announced changes to gifts on Steam. The gifting process has had a bunch of friction in it for a while, and we want to make it easier for you to share the games you love with friends. Steam Gifting will now be a system of direct exchange from gift buyer to gift receiver, and we will be retiring the Gift to E-mail and Gift to Inventory options. Here's a quick breakdown of benefits from the new system:

Scheduling Gifts Is Even More Straightforward

Go ahead and buy a gift months in advance and have it delivered to a friend on time, every time.

Declined Gifts Resolve The Way They Should

In the old system, a declined gift would sneak back into the giver's inventory and remain on their bill. Now, if a recipient already has the title, or just doesn't want it, they can click decline and the purchase is refunded directly to the gift giver.

Safe Cross-Country Gifting

No more worrying if a Gift to E-mail or Gift to Inventory is going to work for a friend, gifts sent through the new system will always work on the receiver's account. When there is a large difference in pricing between countries, gifting won't be available and you'll know before purchase.

These changes are now available. Please
let us know if you see any issues or have any feedback.

Note: Pre-existing gifts will be unaffected by this change.

Steam handles over 50K refund requests per day, hardware & software survey for April 2017 unveiled

Valve has shared some interesting stats, revealing that it receives over 50K refund requests per day. Moreover, the team unveiled its hardware and software survey for April 2017.
What’s really interesting here is that Valve out of these 50K (and in some cases 90K and even 100K) requests, only 1/5 of them are not being addressed (as they are awaiting for a response). In other words, Valve’s accepts the 80% of the submitted requests for refunds in the very same day.

In other news, it appears that NVIDIA is increasing its dominance over AMD. The last hardware & software survey we covered was for November 2016. Since then, NVIDIA saw an increase of 2.92%, whereas AMD saw a decrease of 1.54%. Intel also saw a decrease of 1.33%.

On the other hand, Intel saw a slight increase on the CPU side. 79.73% of the survey-takers prefer Intel’s CPUs, while 20.27% prefer AMD’s CPUs. Since November 2016, Intel saw an increase of 1.23% (and AMD saw a similar decrease).
But what about the number of CPU cores per computers? According to the survey, 50.11% of the survey-takers own a quad-core CPU, while 44% own a dual-core CPU. Only 4.26% has a CPU with more than four CPU cores, and 1.62% is still on a single-core CPU. To put things into perspective, quad-cores gained a 2.31% increase (compared to November 2016) whereas dual-cores saw a 1.9% decrease. Interestingly enough, the amount of owners of CPUs that feature more than four CPU cores has been decreased by 0.24%.

If you have not yet played Time Magazine’s 2010 Game of the Year, now is your final chance. Remedy’s Alan Wake is going offline from stores. This is due to the expiration of music license agreements for the game (Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is not affected).

For 48 hours, you can buy Alan Wake including DLCs and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare at a 90% discount on Steam.
If you already own Alan Wake – like the majority of the gaming population out there – you have nothing to worry about. The game will continue to work for you.

Steam Direct developer fee $100 per game.

Its been announced from quite time that Greenlight will be replaced with Steam Direct in near future. And the first detail is out which is rather shocking than surprising, In Steam Direct the developers will be charged 100 Dollars for game. This step is taken by Valve to reduce spam of games. In Greenlight only 100 Dollars are charged per account but that made greenlight market very spammy. Next big thing was that Steam Direct will work on optimized algorithm which will enable users to see games which they are most interested in.

Official Announcement:
“We're going to look for specific places where human eyes can be injected into the store algorithm, to ensure that it is working as intended, and to ensure it doesn't miss something interesting.”
More details are yet to announce but hope they are not as bad as this one.

A recent leak could narrows down Steam Summer Sale Dates.

Based around an alleged screenshot of a Steamworks developer group, points to the sale running between 22 June and 5 July.

The logic behind the screen grab is that Steam notifies developers when the sale is in advance, in order to give them time to prepare.

Steam Wallet Cards Gifting

Valve has provided physical Steam gift cards for retailers to sell on for a number of years. These cards first appeared in the UK back in December 2013, though even before that you could pop into some games retailers to hand over cash for steam wallet codes – in a similar way that you might have topped up a phone.

Now Valve has opened up purchasing of Digital Gift Cards on Steam. Perhaps the greatest surprise of this initiative is that it hasn’t happened until now.

The new digital cards have some small restrictions. First of all you must log into Steam to purchase one, and secondly you can only send the gift card to a friend or family member.

Please note that the friend must have been your ‘friend’ on Steam for at least three days prior to the gifting. One other point to pay attention to is that you cannot use your existing Steam wallet funds to pay for a gift card. A personalised message can be added alongside the gifted funds on the digital gift card.

The buyer must work around the gifting restrictions mentioned above, however the recipient will find that the gift is rather flexible. Steam will automatically convert funds into your friend’s currency, and your friend can spend the funds as they wish on Steam; on games, software, hardware, or any other item they can find.
If you have Steam wallet funds to buy some games or hardware then Steam’s Halloween Sale is expected to start today .

[h=2]New Profile Privacy Settings[/h]Today’s update expands on your Profile Privacy Settings Page, giving you more control over the privacy of your Steam account. With more detailed descriptions of what profile information is included in each category, you will be able to manage how you are viewed by your friends, or the wider Steam Community.

You can now select who can view your profile’s “game details”; which includes the list of games you have purchased or wishlisted, along with achievements and playtime. This setting also controls whether you’re seen as “in-game” and the title of the game you are playing.

Additionally, regardless of which setting you choose for your profile’s game details, you now have the option to keep your total game playtime private. You no longer need to nervously laugh it off as a bug when your friends notice the 4,000+ hours you've put into Ricochet.

Looking ahead a little, we are also working on a new “invisible” mode in addition to the already existing “online”, “away” and “offline” presence options. If you choose to set yourself to invisible, you’ll appear as offline, but you’ll still be able to view your friends list, send and receive messages. Sometimes you’re feeling social, and sometimes you’re not; this setting should help Steam users be social on their own terms. We hope to have this feature ready for beta release soon.

Like many Steam features, these privacy options come directly from user feedback. If you would like to join that conversation, as always, we welcome you to visit the Steam Discussions and add your feedback.

[h=1]Switch Pro Controller support comes to Steam[/h]
[h=2]Through this week’s beta client update; instructions below[/h]

Steam will support the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller beginning with a Steam Client Beta update that released on Wednesday.
The client makes the Pro Controller fully bindable and customizable, including such features as its gyroscope and vibration. Settings are changed through Controller Settings page, which is the same page that configures PlayStation 4 and Xbox One controller support.
Notably, this page includes a the global option to “Use Nintendo Button Layout” which can be used to swap the A/B and X/Y buttons of a loaded configuration, which will be useful for those who choose a template configuration for Steam Controller or Xbox One. Community configuration sets, shared over Steam, are also available to those using the Switch Pro Controller.
Bear in mind, the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller does not have analog triggers, and this won’t give it to one either. So it may not be the best option for games that have a throttle or other similar command on those buttons. Otherwise, the support is a way to extend some value out of the $69.99 gamepad.
Valve has full instructions on how to configure the support, but remember you need to have opted into the Steam Client Beta first. Users on Reddit have some additional details on how it works — such as controlling the LED light on the home button.
