that day is not far when consoles will have replaceable hardware (cpu, ram, gpu). When that happens, it will be nothing but a portable laptop optimized for gaming.

Think about it, people will get mad and stuff when their console will be struggling to run a game properly and PS4k will be running it easily, and at better frame rates on the same resolution. They could very well feel cheated since they, not so long ago, had the most powerful console, but not anymore. I just feel like this could ruin Sony's fan base or something. Hope I'm wrong.
But like you said, can't really make judgments now. Will just have to wait and see what Sony does with it. Plus, now I'm conflicted. Whether to buy PS4 or wait for PS4K.
Too early to say this; but if games are "really" downgraded by which I mean not performing at their best on a sub-4K screen this will backfire..but I really think if a game performs the same on both platforms; it wont effect Sony much.
But they are being stupid by not commenting on this issue yet. Their media and marketing should be on top of this- there is substantial nervousness among users and players currently
I am in the same boat as you..I recently sold the ps4 as I was moving to new room and didnt wanted to carry it to another place...I am waiting for june, but I do have access to ps4 meanwhile at uni
I dont think consoles could go to replaceable hardware such as cpu/gpu/ram ..that would defeat the purpose of the console industry.
currently there are only three things which sell a console : 1) Exclusives 2) Price 3) Convenience
since point 3 and 2 are dropping rapidly every technological step, only exclusives remain.
I think this is due to MS and Xbox are in a different game due to windows.
Sony and Nintendo dont have any investment in PC
Sony VR for PC is confirmed and so is streaming. If Xb and MS accomplished such "upgrading h/w" task no doubt sony will go for that too.
Sorry, but I personally cant see Sony trying to compete with the likes of MS in PC space

I do have some concerns regarding this new info, though. If games will run at a higher frame rate on NEO, that doesn't bode well for PS4-NEO multiplayer working within the same ecosystem. Someone playing at 60fps would obviously be at an advantage over someone playing at 30fps.

I'm sure developers are going to take this into consideration. They can reduce graphical details on current PS4 to increase framerate for multiplayer.
so the 10 year console cycle is going to be what sh*t from sony now, they are obviously gonna want everyone to jump on the silly 4k train now...
Sony was waiting for you to buy current PS4 before releasing the upgraded version

I dont think games have looked any better since 2019 onwards and they are performing worse and worse. Game developers have really dropped the ball.
